Welcome to Enclave Hold!
Enclave Hold, or The Enclave, is a small Hold located on the southern coast of the Eastern Continent of Pern. It is a west-facing beach, nestled within a crater-shaped bay. It is thought that the bay actually was created by either a huge volcanic eruption, or the impact of a gigantic meteor some geologic age in the past.

The port of the Hold is its most commonly seen feature, but it is far from the only or most interesting one. The port is always busy, taking ships as large as three masts easily. There is a large population of sea-dwelling people in the bay, living on floating homes made of precious wood but covered by thin metal sheeting.

Also living on or near the water are the many dolphineers of teh Hold. There are several large pods which call Enclave home, they usually share the seas but mostly one or the other is out in open ocean while the otehrs are resting at the bay. Dolphineering classes are taught on a regular basis, and bonding is common among seafareres as well as visitors to the Enclave.

On land, there is a small but sturdy Hold built into the cliffside of the bay, and on both sides the cliff slowly dwindles to the beach. At its highest point is the Hold. Outside, it rises two stories above the ground, and sprawling stories at that. Below the surface, however, this Hold is obviously a much higher technological level than that of the rest of Pern. Square, perfectly smooth halls and elegant rooms with air and water passages run nearly two miles away into the land east of the bay. There is room for nearly two thousand people in this Hold, but very few people know that.

Within the Hold, there are huge archive rooms, and those archives are kept not only on wherhide scrolls, wax or paper, but in thick books, and surprisingly enough on active working computer stations. The Lady Holder of Enclave is Archeria, and she keeps tight tabs on who is allowed near any of the archives.

The Hold opens out onto the cliffside in two places: about one story down from the ground level for a kind of observation deck, and then at the beach level some 200 feet below. There is an elevator of sorts running between the ground and the beach, at one time it had been an electric winch and pulley, but now it is merely a counterweight system.

The rest of the Enclave is flat scrubland. Very little of any value comes from the land around Enclave, however the locals are known to brew beers for the fun of it. Most of the income and the interest is in the seas around Enclave.

Fish craft is the most important of those interests. Cooking, gutting, and otherwise utilizing the mass of fish and ocean plant hauls occupies some 60 percent of the population. About half the rest are Dolphineers of some degree, the others consist of traders, crafters and visitors.
