History and Events (originally written early 2000s so it's just copied here) | |||
Goraf Rao, one of the inheritors of the Rao Xuan lands and technologies, is a fine young man. Standing around 5'10, and looking just less than muscular, he's sure that he will eventually bond to a dragon. At the age of 21, Goraf has already sired at least two children, Ziggy and Stardust, and hopes that if he bonds both the boy and girl as well as their mother Xee will be allowed to live with him and be exposed to dragon kind. Goraf has a quiet, yet commanding voice. It is deep and sensuous, not threatening. But when combined with his eerie all-green eyes and little smirk, the only way to tell if he's joking is by the squinching of his eyes. He jokes a lot. He isn't a happy-go-lucky type, but he has done his share of pranks and loves a good rousing song in a drunken stupor. Goraf has a deal with the local Blackstone healers, for hangover medicines. Born to a pair of navigators, his father Raffa had been bonded to a dragon but the brown managed to get so hurt as an adolescent that he never flew against threadfall. The dragon still lives, but Raffa's name was never shortened because he cannot actually ride the dragon. Goraf always loved going to see the brown, helping bathe and feed him, but he knows that the true dragon riders must have healthy, flying beasts below them. Goraf has three siblings, two of them sisters, all younger than he. They are expected to help him build his empire, should he choose to do so. That's the ongoing joke, see... Rao and Xuan family members always have been found to help one another, their lands bordering the high peaks where Blackstone Caer now stands (they used to be even higher, but flat steppes) are very fertile but not for foodstuffs -- they run mines and ore refineries, making metals for smithy work. They do not strip mine, all the ore is very carefully extracted, and the surface of the land they own is still very beautiful. Goraf is proud of his family for that. |
