Guilds of the Kshau Protectorate Nexus

Where there are people, there is business. There is also injury, foodservice, clothing, and many other social things. The Kshau Protectorate hosts several Guilds for merchantry or medicine, dragon breeding or healing and other such activities.

Notably upon Alskyr, House Tsan Nu is a silk-manufacturing and merchant guild. Their expertise has always kept the House quite rich. Most of the inhabitants of this House benefit from this, even the lowest ranking workers. They, unlike their Earthly forebears, value women in business and work as much as men, though they may not have the rank. The silks produced by the busy worms and workers at Tsan Nu are beyond compare. Soft veils, thick stiff padded armor, and everything in between, are produced here.

Paired with them, are the Dye workers of Dawnlight. Without their expertise in chemicals and natural substances, and their deft hands at heat-dye, the silks of Tsan Nu would be bland. The workers in Dawnlight toil as hard as their Tsan Nu counterparts, however only very few of them get any credit among guild members. Dawnlight restricts their travels, so only very few representitives may ever be well known outside of their city.

On Icarus or off it, traveling from Zekira to Icarus frequently, is a family based group headed by a beautiful Zekiran High Mistress, known to do work in cosmetics, dyes, tattooing, and chemicals. She brings with her students and information, which benefit Dun Keiba greatly.

Chagga's coffee guild kind of speaks for itself. Loudly. Chattering, constantly, over cup after endlessly frothy cup. Their bean rosting facility is huge, bigger than most small villages. They have expert cooks and crafters who do nothing but locate desirable ingredients to add to their famous coffee. Every kind of coffee drink and pastry is available from Chagga, but they love chocolate from Catena the best.

Many of the pastries found in Chagga's shops are imported with great difficulty (and therefore expense) from Ablan's cherry fields. The bakers and food masters on Zekira have had long long decades to perfect their works, and nothing compliments a Chagga coffee like a big slab of heavy Cherry Cake from Ablan. Ablan's vintners are well known among Weyrs, Caers and other such places, as the cherry wines are balanced with fine grapes and other fruits found in their area.

But what Ablan is most well known for, is also what several other locales across the Kshau Protectorate are used to doing: medical research.

Ablan, Faustas, Alabaster, and the Healing Den are all locations which do quite a lot of medical research. Alabaster's is more cutting edge medical, researching ways to keep people alive and to add unusual mechanical objects if need be (eye and ear replacements, cyberdecks, cybernetic limbs, etc). Faustas is known to experiment with breeding human and demi-human subjects, this is only borderline legal anywhere, and is certainly not done with full approval by anyone. Ablan's supply of healers is well known, as many of them are descendants or relatives of Vanya Sengihr, one of the world-renoun (and Nexus renoun) Breeders of Zekira. However Ablan does not concentrate its efforts on one particular medical phenomenon, it produces healers, not tools. The Healing Den of course breeds dragons and has the very latest in medical technology, often supplied by and used by Alabaster experts.

Those same Alabaster folk are often found in league with Dawnlight experts, when dealing with electronics and building materials. The only working computers on Alskyr connect directly with those used in the Nexus on the Healing Den. The "Records Room" on the Kshau Isle in fact shares space with it. Replacement parts, computer design, building technology, and projects both small and large are dominated by Alabaster and Dawnlight's engineers.
