Return to the Candidate List

BACK to the
Candidacy Page
Beena and Misota milled about with the other candidates, until they were dizzy.

"When will they hatch?" someone asked, and at that, with the humming reaching its loudest point, the sands went silent.

Half a moment later, the first egg hatched, and everyone let out a huge sigh of relief, followed by a cheer. The first to hatch resembled her mother! A rainbow beauty, who impressed quickly.

A bronze black dragon came out next, and while he impressed, something buzzed in the back of Beena's mind. She looked at her sister Misota.

"Do you ..."

"Yes." Misota answered. They turned to see two beautiful hatchlings upon the sands, as perfect as all White River dragons could be.

One black, the other a rich silver.

They knew immediately who would choose whom, of course!
I am Minath, bespoke the black dragon. I am yours alone, yet my sister tells me that she likes you too. Your sister is pretty. She does not look like you.

"Well, sweet heart, you don't look like your sister except for your shape, either!" Beena laughed, and scooped up the heavy black dragon from the sands.

He was the same size as many blue hatchlings had been -- not that there were any blues upon the sands today! (At least, none that Beena could make out as "blue" blues!) Minath already had a wiry strength to his long body and sharp wings.

"Stop struggling!" Beena said, getting a wing in her face.

Well, I can walk you know! Beena put him down onto the ground, and watched the little dark hatchling sway and stagger himself right into a pile of old sandals that were left from the hatching before. He shook himself free and looked up with pleading blue eyes. I think I was wrong. Carry me instead!

"Just like a boy," Beena muttered, "never knows just exactly what he wants!"

"HEY! I heard that!" Cried Robbyntym, carrying his own large metallic shaded dragon away from the sands.
Do you still think that I am a typical guy?

"You will always be something like that, my dearest Minath..." Beena laughed. "Because you ARE just a guy!" The dragon pouted a bit. Then Beena nuzzled her midnight black dragon's neck. "I don't mean that in a bad way. When you're older, you'll want to chase all kinds of beautiful females."

But you will mind if I do that...

"I will not mind at all, you know that! If you manage to fly one of the better ones how could I ever fault you?"

...What do you mean "if" I manage to fly one? Do you not think I am going to be the best male in the skies? I am surely going to be faster than any blue or brown, and turn better than any big bronze...

"We'll settle that later, I think, my love..." Beena said, rubbing down the dragon and heading off to have dinner.
The time has come for me to prove myself! Announced Minath. He proudly put his head up over the ridge of the hill he and Beena had been playing on, and his eyes went all golden-yellow. I sense that there are females ready to fly... And I will surely want to have one to myself.

"There are always females flying. How about naming me one?"

How about six or seven of them? It is a frenzy at the Healing Den!

Beena took note, perking up and picking the flowers out of her hair. "Really? Then... There's bound to be someone interesting riding a nice dragon... heh... hmmmm..." Beena dreamily trailed off. Hoping for someone young, healthy and happy with her being who she was. That would be nice. She thought of all the green riding men she'd ever met, and knew there were a few who could learn a couple tricks about how to land themselves a mate.

So you will sign me up?

"Of course!
Minath indeed proved himself worthy of flight -- the Halloween flight was simply amazing.

He caught tiny quick winged purple Julanith and provided the Nexus with two beautiful hatchlings, Violet black Cassesth bonded to banshee Myrn, and crimson black for Castor the vampire.

This will not be where Minath stops -- no! He's off to other sites to see about flying a more challenging female!
