Name: Xina
Gender/Age: female, 15
Rank/Craft: Apprentice Harper (law)
Location: Blackstone Weyr
Relatives/Family: several half siblings in Dawnlight hold
Dragon if any: White Gertith
Physical Description: 5'3", 110, slender with a long body and shortish legs. Medium skin tone, very pale blond hair that is wavy and to her shoulders framing her face like a pleasant halo. She has light brown eyes that are small. Her face is long oval, and she has tiny little lips. She is always in a proper posture, never slouching. She wears dark golden clothing, not liking the Harper blue. Her voice is sharp, and high.
Emotional/Mental Description: curious and strong willed, always looking for something to do and watch. She is eager to reach the skies. She is usually at the front of the class, quick with answers even when they are elusive to others. She thinks carefully, if quickly. She is a master at getting around problems in new innovative ways, and is a great diplomat and debator.
Skills: She is as above, excellent in finding answers to problems, even when they are seemingly insurmountable. She has a calming effect on groups, and always manages to keep attention on the right details of an argument. She is good at finding things on maps, and excellent at names and dates.
History: born and raised in the Harper hall at Dawnlight, Xina enjoyed a life of education and curiosity fulfilled. She decided that either she was to become some kind of judge, or perhaps try for a higher spot in the Hold. She was Searched, and that made everything much clearer: she was to ride Gold and become a weyr woman. It is a private goal, but it is one which seems both possible and welcome.
Notes and Special Information: Xina's mother is a trader, and travels far and wide. Her experiences are all things which Xina relies upon for a new perspective. She yearns for a time when she can go to the places where her mother has been.
Pets/Hobbies/Posessions: Xina has no pets, but enjoys the company of canines. She likes watching the skies, though she has been known to cry at the sight of Threadfall. She owns a number of pretty decanters which she keeps filled with potpourri or oils, and she will continue to do so even after she Impresses.
"That little wherrie!" Xina spat, "she didn't have to tell him that!"

"But is it a lie?" Lord Holder Spencer asked, chin leaning on his hand, and he sighed. "Xina I know your ... aquaintance with my son is certainly not intimate. The drudge is jealous of you I am sure."

Though she hated to admit it, Spencer was being remarkably tolerant of her. Xina bit her lip.

"Lord holder sir," she said, "you know that I am unhappy already with... things here."

"As is Lord Deon," Spencer said, shortly. "I'm sorry. And I ... am getting tired of all this too."

Xina let a smirk cross her lips. "Well, there is some hope..."

Spencer chuckled. "Anyway, my dear little Holders Daughter... there are many options open to you. I've heard there is a rider in the Hold who is looking for candidates."

Xina perked up.

"And where would this be candidates to?" She asked, "and what a switch, being searched by a lord holder..."

Spencer laughed. "A'rd has already begged me out of Denver and Mesha, the vintners. But he's hanging out waiting for more. I think you might want to ask him.
Sapphire weyr, I believe it is, looking for candidates."

"Sapphire! Oh, that's wonderful!" Xina tittered, "I've heard of such great dragons coming from there! Purple ones!"

"And odder," Spencer added, while standing. "Come on, you know I'm only escorting you out here to make it look as if you're being punished, young Harper. But don't worry, that drudge won't be spreading any more rumors about my son..."

"Ah, once I'm out of your hair, it's all about D'mian, isn't it!" Xina laughed, and found A'rd and Trelerth along with the vintners Denver and Mesha.

They made their work short, picked up what Xina needed to transfer to Sapphire, and flew between!

"So far as I know the hatching --" Someone said, cut off by their dragon, he nodded and then continued, "is happening right now! So go! Get your robes!"

The other girls in the weyrling class hustled down to their barracks and then rushed into the hatching sands. When they got there, it wasn't long before the eggs started to break.

A green was the first, but with quite an entrance. Two more greens followed, one a very pale color. Three more eggs, a blue and a brown first... then...

Xina looked with fascination as a white head came out from the third. The girls held their breath as she came walking toward their group. Oh how her fine white hide glistened! Right out of the egg, but she seemed to have a glow of warmth and health.

Not that she was really watching where she was going either. She tripped over Xina's foot, and the young Holder laughed. "Hello little one!"

Hello to you as well. I know my name, it is Gertith. Do you like it? I think I shall stay with you. It is too hot for me to keep wandering, and you are so very soft.

"Her name's Gertith!" Xina patted the tiny white, and the dragon crooned delighted to be befriended suddenly.
If I concentrate I can actually sense between, bespoke Gertith.

"What do you mean, exactly, by that?" Xina asked, leaning on the white's side. "You mean, you can almost go between? I don't want you doing that until we're trained and ready."

No, I can sense it. There are many things happening there. Many things! I sense people and dragons and everything.
Xina looked at the beautiful white, and her eyes which whirled a pleasant blue green.

"You're serious. You can sense between. I... Don't know what to tell you, Gertith. If you can do that, can you go between now?"

No, I am not ready. But there are people that you like there, and gone all the time.

Xina thought. She'd heard rumors to the effect that whites could go between and between times better than any other dragons, that they knew their place in it better than any. She gave a satisfied nod.

"Good. We'll talk with T'shen, if that's okay?"

He is there, many times. Sometimes he is there and not there at the same time.

Xina left the conversation at that, confused.
At last, we are ready to find our Wing...

"I have SO been ready to buzz Dawnlight Hold, Gertith. Let's do it."

The holders daughter laughed as they took off for the last time from Sapphire Weyr's ledges. They circled around and then went between.

It was there that Gertith had a strange premonition.

Trouble, you will be in trouble my friend...

I will not! Keep flying!

When they reached the Hold, it was odd... Xina had the most unusual of feelings. Then, she realized why.

You wherry! You brought us back in time! We shouldn't be here and now! We need to be... turns away from here!

With a chuckle, Gertith went between again. It was true, Xina would be in trouble. She'd been staring out one of the tall windows in the Harper's instruction area, one day when she was but a child. Daydreaming, supposedly. Then she swore up and down she saw a white dragon peering into the window... Into her soul.

Who could have known it would have been herself?
Xina and Gertith are participating in the Flurry at Ryslen!
