Doll by Meiker / Princx

Name: Xeclec, X'lec (zek-lek, then zuh LEK)

Gender: Male, he/him, straight

Age: 17 at Search, currently 19

Origin: Guild born, from a sprawling high-plains community unused to Threadfall due to the winds carrying the stuff beyond it; his parents never married and he has a variety of half- and full-siblings on both sides of that family, including a half-sister several years older than him who is just unacceptably annoying to him so he feels pretty good about having been Searched just to rub it in her face a bit, she's far too self-absorbed to be a rider (he hopes)

Height: around 5'9"

Build: while he was frail as a child, and doted upon by his mother for it, he's become a slender and strong young adult. His hands and shoulders are strongest due to his glassworking but he doesn't lack refined motor skills and is quite agile

Skin: dark brown, a rich shade that people comment on

Hair: fluffy, shoulder-length salt and pepper black and silver, a trait that his father and grandfather (and other male relatives) are known to carry, while their sisters and female relatives seem to have a shimmery platinum silver-blond

Eyes: dark blue, squinty but that's often because of the heat of the glassworking area or the wind from flying on dragon back

Personality: Polite and intense, if you're trying to get his attention you should just wait it out. If he is working on a piece or designing something, he will be doing this for a while and not looking up for hours on end. That said, he will definitely just hand someone a trinket or functional piece of glasswork 'just because', and he can figure out people's preferences just by sizing up their appearance, listening to them speaking a while, or ... well, reading their diaries which he does only when others aren't around to notice... Thankfully he's never been caught but knows that it's only a matter of time, so there are quite a few apologies he has memorized just in case.

History: His whole family is proud of him, not just because of being Searched. A talented glass crafter who is able to figure out new types of ores or substances to include in his works, he likes to hash out how best to assemble larger works like stained glass windows or door frame pieces, and is quite adept at assessing sizes, distances, and weights with a glance. He's been able to do this since childhood, and showed such promise in the field that he was accepted as an Apprentice in the Glasscraft at the age of 8. His body and senses have developed in tune with this profession.

Though he was granted his Journeyman knots, he didn't actually travel or journey until he was searched. In practical terms, he knew there were things that glass crafters made for virtually every part of weyrs, holds, and craft halls. Particularly he wanted to be of use with his work. He did spend a lot of time in kitchens and workshops while he practiced and honed his art, and loves making full sets of glasses and dishes, even thick and heavy pots for cooking that are typically metal, but lined with his durable glass allowing them to be cleaned so much easier! While working on such plans for those linings, his original sketches and notes vanished under... shall we say 'obviously mysterious' circumstances, as another of the students visiting from a different guild hall came and went... He'd like to find out whether they used those plans properly, and would love to have 'credit where due' for it; his Master Glasscrafter actually took care of that aspect already but he was Searched, so hasn't really heard much about it.

On Search, at first he was very pleased, and then... realized that Threadfall was going to be the center of attention from that point on. The concept of this stuff chills him to the core, he's seen the injuries and heard the harpers singing about threadscore. Though afraid of the potential requiring him to fight Thread, he still dedicated himself to the studies required to pass into the candidacy programs, and was brought to an unusual place to hopefully Impress.

The magnificent midnight blue Zemduth approached him with curiosity and inspired X'lec (he likes this name!) to produce a series of cobalt-blue glassware and art.

In the meantime he continues to put together little or big pieces, jewelry, cups and plates, and those lined pans and pots, as long as he's got the materials. He is definitely swimming in materials at this point, because having someone capable of doing this work at all in a Weyr is markedly superior to having to trade for every little chipped dish. Also thankfully for him at least, he won't be required in the air during Threadfall, unless it's absolutely necessary. Losing an expert crafter like him would be more damaging than any Harper could imply, whether all hands are up there is not even the important part: capable and willing hands are more than enough.

***

Name: Zemduth
Species: Pernese Dragon, split-tailed, with small forelimbs, two large 3-fingered wings with prominent wrist finger all with claws; head-crest
Gender: Male, sires
Color: Striking vivid blue on chest, belly, limbs, fading to midnight blue on wingsails underneath, slightly dusty midnight blue on backs of wings
Size: medium-small 8'10" s / 40' l / 70' ws
Parents: Dam: Rosegold Vemydth Sire: Bronze Eamaeth from Academia de Magica / Nomi
Abilities: Winged Flight, Zemduth can claim to be one of the smoothest rides in the air, thanks to his bond needing to 'not break the glass'. Though he doesn't go terribly fast, he will get wherever he's going promptly and without a hair out of place - and definitely not one fragile piece broken even at landing; he's not tiny and he can definitely carry a good amount of gear and passengers, though he prefers to only carry X'lec and his goods
Teleportation/Nexus Teleportation, he dislikes moving between, but he will do it in order to please his rider. X'lec has made gorgeous stained and inlaid glass art with star charts right in them, so he knows that he won't get lost
Telepathy, his mind is as smooth as any glass that his rider has made, though nowhere near as fragile. He has a strong and confident mind, though he does like having direction given if he's in doubt about who to listen to or where to go. He is almost always in mental contact with his rider, though not intrusively so - like he is always peering over X'lec's shoulder watching the process of creating glass
Telekinesis, able to use this on a very small scale which has obviously led to his stability in the air and his precice landings; however if he is required to contribute to a larger scale use, he definitely assists strongly
Unassisted Firebreath, a magical effect allowing them to breath fire without firestone; typically a Pernese dragon would need coal, firestone, or other such substances, but he is very capable of breathing a very-hot if short range burst of flame. He can chew firestone, but prefers not to, since his rider has asserted that the fire produced by it leaves a residue that is not particularly pleasant on glass; if he could breathe much harder or broadly he would definitely have been a good threadfighter, but as it is less than 10 meters at most, his best use is with his rider in the crafting area
Additional Breathweapon, he lacks a specific other breath weapon, but has a strong resistance to all forms of heat and flame, spark, or even possibly lasers...
Personality: curious and alert, though a little jumpy if left to his own devices or isolated from his rider too long
Sociability: a bit on the needy side, but reliable and will arrive instantly if asked
Intelligence: an average dragon intellect, though he knows that asking a question may go over his head, there's always another mind or dragon listening too and they might get more out of a complex answer
Mating: hm, well perhaps? If allowed? He would have a gentle touch, though it might not be enough if he's up against more aggressive or assertive dragons
Threadfighting: glad that he does not have to deal with this, he much prefers to be down in the weyr helping collect sand, ores, and delivering glass goods with his rider
Other: he seems aware that they are not on the same world as some other dragons here are from but only dimly, even if he did hatch in a magical environment he was still too young and has not concentrated on remembering that place like others might have
Bond: X'lec
