"I don't want to talk about it," was all D'sel the brown rider would say, upon his arrival to Dragonhope. He gave his name, his birthname, age and the like, but nothing about where he'd come from nor why he arrived in a state of disarray the likes of which only one or two elder riders had ever seen.

His gorgeous, strongly marked brown Azdath seemed a little worse for wear however with the good care found in the dragon-healing area he would recover just fine.

After being checked out by the healers, given water and stew, and let to rest on a warm cot next to his exhausted dragon, D'sel would wake to the sight of the tall, dark Weyrleader.

S'xon quietly appraised the rider, and finally said, "I've seen plenty of time-tossed riders before, our Weyr seems to attract them." The Weyrleader's voice was hardly above a whisper, but D'sel nodded. "And your dragon looks to have seen plenty of distance, both on the wing and between."

"Yes sir, he has. We both have."

"I'm not going to pressure you into talking about your past, rider, but .. I don't like secrets being kept in my Weyr. Is that clear?"

D'sel tiredly nodded once more. "I understand sir. It's... just... I don't even know if I can explain it properly. If... when I can, I'll talk to you about it. But not right now. When we're both flight ready, I would appreciate the chance to apply for a wing position here."

"I had assumed that you would," S'xon cracked a smile, "since many other Weyrs wouldn't have considered allowing you to stay without knowing anything more about you than this."

S'xon left D'sel alone, the brown beside him stirred gently in half-sleep.

The truth will be told, eventually, Azdath sent, But I like it here... perhaps some day we will return home. The dragon felt his rider tense up, but they both knew it was true. Once they found their bearings, and had the courage to attempt the long, difficult jump back -- forward? Sideways in time... They would. And perhaps they'd bring others?
