Halwanato / H'wanto and Green Eldenth If there was ever a boy who was born to ride a green dragon, it would be Halwanato. Though he was born to sedate mine-guild parents, it would hardly seem they knew their own son. Expected to follow in their footsteps, he did learn at a young age how to appraise raw ores and stones for their potential value in mining, and it's something that has stayed with him all this time. However... he was immediately attracted to the more shiny things. One of those shiny things, when he was a youth not even six years old, appeared to be a dragon. Riding as a scout for a nearby weyr, the blue came to search when he claimed he smelled something good. It turned out to be Halwanato, whom they kept track of for years. It was all but forgotten for the boy not too much later, there were other things to do and see. When a passing group of gypsies came to visit (not to steal things, just to earn a proper living, right?) Halwanato jumped into their energetic and sensual dancing. He was only seven, but he moved like water - or more accurately he moved like a graceful girl. Perhaps to spare themselves the embarrassment of having their son run off and join the gypsies, his mother and father agreed he'd be sent to an entertainer's guild where he would be given proper training. There was no denying his talent, after that night of dancing! Most miner's children were slow moving and deliberate - and while Halwanato's movements seemed purposeful they were beautifully executed. By the time he was ten, Halwanato knew every traditional dance that the guild could offer. However he was only officially trained in the 'masculine' side of every dance. The masters there tried to dissuade him from watching the girls as they practiced, however he was charming enough on his own to have them teach him on their off hours anyway. At eleven, he was moved from the local guild to a bigger one near the ocean. For the first time, this plains-born boy saw the expanse of the blue ocean - and was disgusted. It smelled, it was dangerous and choppy and cold, what could you do with it? He went on two pleasure-cruises to entertain and both times came away angered and embarrassed because he couldn't properly stand while the swell moved the boat below his feet. He preferred good solid ground below his toes. When he was tested by the local Masters, at twelve, they were astonished at his abilities. A given talent like this they'd never seen, awarding him with a Journeymanship and all but skipping senior Apprenticehood. They at least also recognized that he was homosexual and hardly was interested in the rougher movements of the masculine roles of formal dances. He prefered the fluid and graceful gestures of the feminine, though he was often seen flirting with the girls too. While the masters wouldn't allow him to actually dress up like a girl for their official dances and performances, he was able to do so in private to his liking. For in-guild peformances and practices Halwanato often played the starring role - opposite a remarkably masculine young woman who seemed to be his physical match, as she played the male lead. Halwanato wasn't just interested in dancing, however. He liked to hang out with the other guild crafters, essentially to distract himself from the activities that the other dancers did when they had days off. He was hardly one to go out to the sea and 'enjoy' a day at the beach or a trip around to the nearby islands. So his adoration of a particular craft - if not a particular crafter - began in the glass-guild. He was entranced first by the colorful beauty of the dyes and shapes that could be made. Then, by the young man of seventeen that was a senior Apprentice working quickly toward his own journeymanship. They would be friends, but the other wasn't quite as interested in causing a stir among the guild masters by getting 'too' close. They always exchange a sly glance or a cheerful hello, and the many baubles that Halwanato wears when dancing are all made by his 'almost lover' Speldar. As he neared sixteen, it was clear that this boy was a master of dance and would hardly be required to prove anything further to the local Masters of his craft. He was not only adept at the common dances, but he'd conquored - intimately - the traditional gypsy dances, and many others from near and far. If a newcomer arrived from a far-off land, he'd immediately pick up on whatever they were able to show him. He invented beautiful new moves, so light on his feet that even the most adept lithe adult (women) could hardly keep up. Then one day shortly after he was awarded his Mastery, the dragonriders caught up with him. "You were quite hard to track down," commented one. "Are you sure that you want to leave?" Asked another. He did, he wanted to study the dragons and their own dances - sure that he'd seen them flying in patterns most amazing above. He gave Speldar a particularly solemn gift, dancing alone in a room with him for hours - not once touching him. He would be back, he promised... And he did go back! When he'd gone to a hatching (a ... big hatching) one small green perked her head out of her shell and came gently tripping toward him. She turned her trip into a delicate roll and shook the sand from herself while flairing out her wings. Eldenth was her name, and she wanted to know just what kind of dancing she ought to do to impress the boys when she was older. H'wanto (what a name, what a perfect name for him) dropped in on Speldar with a grin. Though they had spent three years apart, they were still close enough in age that neither wanted to deny their attraction to one another. Speldar had hardly gotten his Journeymanship started up, when H'wanto invited him to Dragonhope Weyr, where he was now residing as a wing rider. Speldar accepted, and is now part of the Dragonhope crafters! Status: Guild Born Crafting Guild: Harper - dancer, Status: master (at their age?!) Originally From: scrubland community |
Name: Eldenth Flirty, adorable, and very graceful in the air.
