There was no doubt in his mind that the reason he was always forced to fly with the greens wasn't that he or his dragon fell behind in their duties. It was plain that the Weyrleaders knew what he was plotting, and though it was hardly a deadly event they kept preventing him from sabotaging the brown rider's flights.

Their rivalry had been obvious from the start, from the moment some years ago that N'red had been brought on with two others from the colorful clutch at Darkling Dawn. V'stan is just one of those annoying guys who talks too much and does too little, and needs, in N'red's opinion, to be taken down a notch.

Ghereth is apt to talk a lot and wind up doing less than N'red would like. N'red isn't disappointed, because he knows that the dragon's cowardice in some ways has kept him from really getting into trouble.
