She could not read nor write when the Search rider found her. This tan-skinned grey-haired girl who had caught his eye at a gather and subsequently made points with his blue dragon as they Searched, was a bit rude and hardly learned. But she was strong (oh was she strong) and she focused well. Rea was her name, she refused to state where she was from and whether her family would miss her, and so the rider simply took her off to Blue Mountain Aurie for training.

She attended classes, but as the searchrider predicted she was far better at physical tasks than mental ones. She'd never quite read quickly, and her penmanship would remain poor all the rest of her life. But by the time she was sixteen she'd been put on the sands at Samth's grand clutch - and Impressed! Soon though, she'd be sent off with others to be trained and tested at Dragonhope Weyr.

A more perfect pair was hard to imagine. The light-colored green was snippy, arrogant and always seemed to want to be doing something else, so it was up to Rea to keep the dragon's attention focused. Pllith eagerly ate up firestone and spat out flame, mastered most flight tactics early on and was an exceptionally durable flier. Thus, she earned a spot in the Weyrleader's wing, first out to battle!
