She lived in the Aurie until her sixteenth turn, this daughter of a white-rider and a woman from the records room. But neither of them would take care of her, she was left to the other families who had less work on their hands. Uta never complained, in fact she was rather shy and did everything she was told to do without so much as a peep. She helped with stocking the pantries, cleaning the weyrs, and ran messages back and forth - until she learned to read, at which point she was given the task of actually announcing things. Though Uta was painfully shy, she did this with gusto. As long as she could vanish after an announcement, that was fine. She hated being on the spot. So when she stood on the sands at Blue Mountain... and a gold - one of several - came to her, she was stunned into silence. She was tall, skinny, but strong and healthy. She was not pretty, but she wasn't truly ugly - and now she was a gold-rider. Dhuth echoed her rider almost completely - patient, strong, observant, willing to do what others needed. Thus when they were sent off to Dragonhope, she would still be in the Weyrwoman's wing, but allowed to do her other jobs - announcing and keeping the stocks up properly. She enjoys these tasks greatly, and Dhuth helps tremendously when she's sent to a hold or crafthall to deliver a message. |
