Wolf's Province

Though the location is filled with different Wyldkin, it is generally known as Wolf’s Province because the reigning species and royal family are (and have most often been) wolves.

This is perhaps the largest of the provinces held by any species on Dragondeep, save the very seas themselves and the Dragons who live in them. From east of the Moonsong Sea, to the western edge of the Patriarch, all land is considered Wyldkin country.

The Patriarch itself at 26,130 feet is the home of many Ursoid and feline kin, as well as elegant deer-folk. Its fine forests and amazing vistas are punctuated by keeps that resemble those of Medieval Earth’s. Tall wooden and stone castles can be seen over the forests, standing upon precarious crags.

Hollow Hall is a series of large, mainly open caverns. They are uncharted in general, but several entrances are known and used frequently by thieves as hideaways. Bat folk live in these caverns near the entrances, and make exceptional guides for the Hall’s whole length. There is one known passage under the shallow ocean floor to the island more than a hundred-fifty miles offshore, Escape, though it’s much more easily – and safely – reached by boat.

Wyldqueen Wood is a massive forest with huge valleys and gentle rivers, the domain of the ruling family of wolves. Bustling cities dot the coastline, though rarely up farther into the hills and never up into the Forbidden Mountain. The royals often move from city to city, enjoying their rule.

Forbidden Mountain is just that: forbidden to all but a very few. Both religious and magical sages practice their arts here, choosing their students and successors very carefully based on their arcane scrying methods. To enter this realm without invitation is courting death, for the secrets that the priests and mages keep there are worth hiding. That said, the place itself is a fantastic mix of magically altered stone and ground, and a natural formed monolith of a mountain. Rising thousands of feet, 25,820 in fact, it could easily support a million or more people – but it is so steeped in spiritual and magic energy that few even dare approach it to gaze upon it, let alone enter its shadow. The truth is that this was the first home of the Gods, and the rumor is that there actually is a God still alive there – but no one outside will ever know.

Everchange Wood is well known around the world for never, ever being a safe place to rest. Shapeshifters of any breed make their home here, from classic ‘werewolves’ to those who know no true shape, and it’s also said there are plenty of demons running around too. They must be small, lesser ones, because any of the bigger ones would be tamed by the Summoners nearby. Though it sports a wonderful large sea and plenty of ports, most of those ports are used by locals only, even other Wyldkin often avoid this area.

Fool’s Mire is a wide, hill-framed set of swamps and lakes, all of which are just as dangerous as the neighboring Everchange Wood. It is a fact that there are demons here, along with stray fey and sprites that don’t easily like living under the rule of their own royalty (if they have one). If the Noose is a pirate haven, Fool’s Mire is home to anarchy and chaos personified. There may be homes here. But, would you be fool enough to try and find them?

King’s Pride is a very recent atoll – it used to be a large volcano, and still is active to an extent. However it was once the home of the royal family, Griffins who asserted their rule until the volcano blew their whole culture into the sky. It is still inhabited, and still ruled by Griffs, but even they acknowledge the rule of the wolves to the south.

Burden Vale houses a tremendous number of what Earth would consider “domesticated” kinfolk – horses, cats, dogs, rodents, goats, pigs, and the like. They toil for the other cities, but also enjoy a strong financial position that the royal family dares not challenge. Farmland and ranches dominate the hilly landscape here, and their livestock is exported around the world as well as merely locally. Though those kin are found everywhere in some number, they are most commonly found here in Burden, where they feel most comfortable. After all, the size difference between a cat-kin and their tiger counterpart is just as massive as you’d imagine.

Loneclaw Strand is a long peninsula jutting almost due north into the sea, and is where many of the more fierce felines of different sizes reside, making their living as fishermen or sailors, but porting here in the north rather than in the Golden Chain to the south. They have little to do with the bigger trade routes, but certainly this port is a known and valued stop on any world-venturing route.

Griffinfall is one of the largest single mountains in the world at 26,905 feet. It is likely that the griffin population was there for the fall of the Gods themselves, as the Dragons gained control over the world. All manner of four-footed kin reside here, those who are not gifted with thumbs or perhaps even speech but are none the less intelligent or magical. Their cities are more like burrows or caverns, but are generally created with magic rather than by hand. Only those who require or enjoy the open air actually live above the ground’s level, most come out to work or hunt but return to their dens rather than building above ground.

Tigerbite is a wide but low-laying area of jungle and swamp, quite warm and wet all year around. As expected, more large felines than any other creature live here, however they are generally known for their art and crafts than any fierce tales might tell. Many of the inhabitants here are sent off to do judicial work elsewhere, the schools here are known around the world. Humanoids of any breed and type are welcome as long as they can fit within the structures of marble and stone, though there are dragon-sized and accommodating areas for the natives as well.

Areas east of Griffinfall and into the rolling hills around Moonsong Sea are inhabited by many in keeps and castles, fiefdoms scattered down from the mountainside. In this area, plenty of non-furry people also mingle with the Wyldkin, and the area is well known for its long celebrations, and races: dragon back, horse, griffin flight, foot races… all of them are eagerly bet upon and participated in.

Moonsong Sea is a freshwater inland sea that is a glory to behold particularly at night when the towns around it light their bonfires. This is one of the very few locations around the continent where dragons lay their eggs on land, on the rich beaches, protected by their kin who choose not to live in the Silent Empire. When a dragon from this area is hatched, the celebrations can practically be seen from the Patriarch.

The entire territory is maintained with roads, some of them quite large. Only on the fringes of the large Province are the roads unguarded.
