Viridian Elves, the Tree-Folk |
These are most typical in appearance, and have the range of skin, hair and eye color similar to those of Humans everywhere. They more often have pale blond through silver hair, and generally have straight to lightly wavy hair. Dark-skinned and haired Viridian Elves exist, though are uncommon and often sought after because they look exotic to other Elves, while creamy and freckled skin is common. The Viridian Elves are plant shapers and Psionic crafters of the highest order, as described in the geography section above. Their beautiful arboreal homes are difficult to see from the ground, but from the air or other tree limbs are obvious and fabulous. Huge archways of forest canopy form cathedral-sized clearings below, often there are chambers built in layers above the ground when the trees are tall enough. Most of the trees in this area grow to four hundred feet or more, so this is hardly an issue. One specific tree that the Elves of this area use is literally called the Cathedral tree. It grows highest and strongest, but always grows best with many others of its kind nearby as they share not only root systems but their intertwined branches. They grow smooth from the ground up to around twenty feet, and then their natural inclination is to arch toward the next tree. Whole forests of these trees can house thousands of people and animals with ease, letting dappled light down from the few openings above. They are ideal for creating living arrangements on their strong, wide white colored branches, but not really good for anything else. The Viridian Elves are also very happy and social, adept with their powers, and great craftsmen. They love the interactions with other people, particularly the Grape Barony and even the Reed people – two very different cultures, but Viridian enjoy both aspects of indulgence and beautiful music. The Viridian are some of the few people who can actually convince the Reed folk to come to their realm. Many scholars enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the trees, though care must be taken to preserve with magic, any paper notes they may use. The warm, moist air usually attacks paper quickly, but with the Viridian Elves’ power over plant matter this is a momentary wave of the hand for one of them to take care of. They hunt most typically with nets, lassos, and trapping – that’s not to say they aren’t adept enough with bow, spear, or sword, but that they usually are dedicated to other tasks, and would rather not have to deal with organizing a hunting party when there’s a perfectly good noose trap with a deer hanging in it just down the trail. Obviously, their traps are shaped from their own magical use, and those who produce them are often ‘listening in’ to those plants with their power, to detect when one of them has been tripped! Viridian Elves have a more complex and orderly system of government and law than their counterparts. Though individually, respect varies for those who administrate. Their plant elemental psionics are occasionally – though by no means frequently – aided by spell-magic. They usually bear names with multiple syllables and with both descriptive and sound-based portions. ‘Anaris the Braid Maker’ and ‘Venvorian Who Seeks’ are valid names. In addition, they wear a piece of jewelry or carry a shaped item on their person which identifies them from their specific location or family line. |
