Name: Theophilos Ribiero Gender/Preference: Male, he/him, straight Age/DOB: 60 in 1855 / 5th day, Month of Earth Faction: Independent / Shopkeeper (formerly good standing, now black market) Family: Wife Martha, deceased in shop fire; son Nestor (runs shop) Height/Build: 5'11" / bony and a bit weak, but still manages, he's actually much healthier than most men his age probably just because he is That Stubborn Hair: had been ashen black, now white, very full still with no sign of baldness; kept styled and short Eyes: grey-blue, more on the hazel side than blue, narrowed, under inquisiting brows Appearance: light colored skin, surprising for one who lives in Karnaca; much of the right side of his face, neck, right arm, and upper body is covered in a webbing of burn scars, so he tends to wear clothing that mostly cover them, such as fine linen shirts, long coats, and occasionally a work smock for repairs and dusty jobs. He does smoke constantly, mostly to kill the pain because he definitely still feels it in his joints and skin, and thus his voice is low and gritty, and he does smell of that smoke, however it's often as not a pipe, rather than cigars or cigarettes. He does still move with style, and though he will not entertain the idea, there are actually a number of higher-class ladies who have consistently praised him, trying to flirt and failing.

Skills and Occupation: A lifelong merchant, skilled in everything that is needed to stock, import and export, make records for, or taxes about goods. 'Back in his day' he was up and coming, and then the man who shared his nickname - Duke Theodanis Abele - died, and his wretched son Luca took over. That put the entire area into disarray. Theo is shrewd and attentive to local needs, and is keen on making the most of the faction disputes in this area. Theo tends to have his hands on items and goods, with plenty of contacts among those shop keepers in the area, as well as in the ship docks. Residence: 2nd floor of the building where Ribiero's Resale is, on Avila Avenue in the Batista Mining District (now known as the Dust District but he refuses to call it that). While the building itself is sturdy and well kept, including the shop on the bottom floor, the surrounding structures are growing less and less so, to the point of having holes and broken windows, brickwork that is missing, and piles of dust and sand everywhere. The shop is maintained carefully, usually by Nestor, and their apartments have recently... expanded. Since the others in the building have either died or left the District, and ‘it was just sitting there unused', Nestor has moved to the third floor of the structure while his father keeps the second floor to himself. Notable Possessions: Ribiero's Resale! This shop had been in his family for several generations and he was bound and determined to make even more of it than his grandfather. While Nestor is clearly capable of running the place formally, Theo is hesitant (bitter) and won't quite let go just yet. Theo's rooms are filled with spare goods, sometimes things that have caught his eye and he just didn't feel like selling, or others which had remained in their shop too long and he figured there weren't going to be buyers for. (He should look into sending them to the Conservatory.) Notably he has a wedding silvergraph which is the only remaining item from before the fire that killed Martha. |

Magical Preferences or Abilities: Neither father nor son are Marked by the Outsider, however they both know that mark when they see it, and that's because they often have Runes and even a few scattered Bone Charms on hand for sale. Due to the proximity to the ocean, and dangerous conditions in that sea, quite a few of these wash up on shore, and Theo pays local street kids to fetch them. Even with these dangerous heretical items in the shop, the Overseers have looked the other way so far - or don't realize they're for sale right under their noses. | |||
Personality: Theo is not greedy nor grabby, he's actually quite good with making sure that goods get where they should be. That said, he's intent on running his business ‘until he's buried in that damnable dust', and has contacts among many of the shop keepers of the entire city. Likes and Dislikes: Theo seems like a grumpy old man, but he does enjoy bartering and betting, and while he does play cards and dice he knows better than to gamble his shop away. Fears or Interruptions: unattached to any specific faction, but clearly benefits from shady deals; does not do business with Guard faction members openly, if they shop it's by appointment because Theo does not want them disrupting his profitable under-the-table deals. They know of these deals of course, they pay their ‘other taxes' to the specific guards assigned to this area to make sure that his shop can remain open. If a new guard shows up during regular hours they're treated cordially but will not be offered ‘tax' - that's for the captain to collect, and him only |

History: The elder is still quite sure that the area will eventually ‘become what it had been before...', while the younger is eager to make whatever he can of this situation.
Theo's scars come from a fire that nearly destroyed him in all ways: it ripped through the back rooms behind their shop, killing his wife Martha, though their young son was spared since he was at the Conservatory at the time. Having to raise his son alone meant that Nestor had a lot of tutors, and was introduced to plenty of people well before he was actually ready to run or even work at the store. |
