Name: Midell

Gender: Female, bisexual

Age/DOB: appears mid-20s, created RY9

Origin: Repurposed Earth directly to Rookery, AAEC

Family: She is an ELL through and through, but she's looking for someone who can keep up with her; turns out that Adam Floyd is good at that, when he's in the area they hook up, and though another woman carries them, Alanna and Miguel are their fraternal twins born in RY12

Other: It's possible that she'll just ask Melissa to splice her up some kids, she absolutely does not have the desire to sit around pregnant

Height: 5'7"

Weight: *around 95, all muscle but with smooth curves that really don't show off just exactly how lean and strong she really is, thanks to Icarus

Hair: shiny black, copper highlights, very straight, kept with jagged fringe and in a bun, but it's actually pretty long, to her mid-back at least, when it's down; how she keeps it clean is a trade secret apparently

Eyes: dark, strong blue, with a prominent epicanathal fold, under expressive thin brows

Appearance: though she is lighter skinned than some, she still has a strong tan undertone, and has never been known to burn in the desert sun; also she has no scars of any sort, as she heals quickly from small injuries (it's not clear how her earring stays in, as many others earring holes seal up after being made); has a down turned nose, full lips, and high cheeks, a narrow waist, and carries herself with strength and ease; likes a combination of Aperture branded items and 'found' leathers, and that earring is a Xenian crystal - used to help others with Vortal power locate her when she's out and about too far away to communicate easily; she has a strong voice, though it's a bit gritty from her time in the desert, she tends not to use the big words, but she absolutely can understand them

Icarus Processing: yes, while being mixed in the lab and aged to a mid-teenager, Midell has benefitted strongly from this process with her healing factor being the main bit. She can recover from being crushed or falling and breaking bones within minutes, and unlike some doesn't require her larger bones to be 'rebroken-set', they heal as they're supposed to and not 'wherever they fall'. Midell has never been known to shy away from fires, radiation, toxic waste, or other such dangers, though she has an unusual (for an ELL) aversion to electricity, and though not 'weak' to it, she does take full damage of whatever sort from touching live wires. She is about 3x stronger than a normal person, can run for half a day without tiring, and along with her healing and resistances, she has senses that are about 2x keener - she can spot details from heights that would require binoculars, and hear birds or mice from miles. She has a sense of vibration, so she can touch the ground and sense whether things are moving, up to 3 miles away, making her a useful scout to tell whether Combine troops are on the move

Genetic Abilities: if she has a typical ELL set of technological abilities, no one's ever seen her use them. She is more or less physical only, however she does have an easily picked-up Vortal voice and aura, and she has learned how to Vortally 'ping' anyone within range with that Xenian crystal she wears. If she does so it's for a serious reason only, and those responding will be on guard when they arrive to her location. She can communicate telepathically only with other ELLs and only at about 200 meters or less, but she can tell when any of them has been nearby, up to about 4 months worth of 'residual' Vortessence can be seen by her Vortal eyes... She can pick up antlion movement, and spots Nectarium locations at 500 meters, which is handy because they're quite often deeply underground in the natural caverns of New Mexico. Midell's ability to stand out Vortally is helpful because she is otherwise incredibly stealthy, and this is a power, not merely a skill. When she and Archosargus want to be sneaky, they somehow manage it, even in the air, though overall it works best in natural areas and not ruins. She doesn't have to be standing still for her stealth to kick in, all she really needs is a moment or two to concentrate on it. She can remain virtually unseen, though she does leave tracks and make sounds as normal, however with practice she's been able to stay off of Combine scanners' screens, evidence that her power is Vortal. Heat scans and other forms of life detection, specifically from Combine devices, get absolutely nothing off of her or her dragon when they're in proximity to one another.
Skills or Profession: though she's an ELL, she concentrates her efforts on scouting and wilderness exploration, and feels much more comfortable in the desert than in a facility. She knows how to live off the land, skills picked up mostly from the Vorts, and though she cannot really speak Vortigese herself, if she's near enough to them, she does get the full context of their speech rather than merely the voiced. As such, she often gives them the ping to show up at Nectaria or if she's spotted something unusual and it's quite far from the Rookery or Ranch. They have taught her how to hunt Guardians and other dangerous creatures, which she does eagerly. However her main duties are to patrol the more distant fringes of their territory, making sure that Combine invasions aren't on the way. Unlike a lot of her kin, she doesn't bother with tech and has little experience with it, though she does still have downloaded information, she only really bothers with mapping and directional guides, and the occasional radio. Midell can make her own gear fit for wilderness survival, including dragon riding straps and harnesses, and if she spots refugees they're usually the ones needing to be carried, because she can run below the dragon and keep up pretty well. She and the dragons also seem to get along well. Though she's not really a 'front line' fighter, she and Archosargus are quite capable of putting up a really strong defense against the Combine, and they may engage troops on the move before anyone else gets there, often enough leading them away from the area instead of toward the Rookery proper.
Personality: Midell would not fit in very well in a traditional setting for ELLs, honestly, she's not very social but can deal with human interaction when needed. Honestly she's much more of a 'human Vort', and seems to prefer their company over humans any day. She's silent more than quiet, if she has something to say she'll say it and be done, and has little patience for people that screw up when they're on the run - she has had to leave problematic people in the desert, with a ping to someone to come pick them up and explain to them in kinder terms that their behaviors need fixing before they are accepted in the Rookery. She can be called 'gruff', but she's not unfriendly, and definitely has high standards for those she wants around her when she's back at the Rookery. She has met some of the more 'wild' influences over at the Grounds, and likes them quite a bit.
Events or History: Because she runs around in the desert one might think she would have a... dryer dragon? Nope. Keep up. Brewed in the lab with several others (Haniell, Tawnell, Questell, possibly others) for specific location duties, she was designed for deserts and harsh conditions. She thrives in this area, and has explored a vast amount of the New Mexico scrub as well as mountains nearby, and really wants to visit the Grand Canyon some day. She and Archo sometimes lounge around in the Pecos river, and he liks finding spots to indulge his Seawing side, but they're under no illusions: there are no very large bodies of water here, nor is he able to breathe under water anyway, so they remain a bit of an enigma.

Dragon

Name: Archosargus
Gender: Male
Size/Shoulder/Length: medium-large 10' s / 40' l / 70' ws
Colors: body from head to tail and limbs including wing hands is based on medium rusty brown, with slightly more orange legs and more rusty wing fingers, buff tan in the middle, and with an off-white belly from chin to tail tip, marked with white spots in places that blend in with belly; also marked with vibrant black striping; wingsails brightly white with strong black jagged stripes; markings tend to be reflective yellow; claws, horns, and spines black; eyes yellow
Features: Seawing Hivewing hybrid, Seawing build with Hive modifications, notably only two wings rather than four, however their wings are veined in accordance with Hivewing style; spikes are duller but longer than Hive's, but lacks a Sea's fins on all but feet; unlike Seawings, has no gills and thus cannot breathe under water; generally the body is considerably stronger than any Hivewing's, and tail can be used for both smashing and delivering a dangerous impale with the spikes on its end; claws are curved; scales can flash bioluminescence, only really visible in dim or dark lighting, and only go through yellow, white, and a dim orange; quite bouyant, can float and loves water, but really only uses it to fish and refresh, doesn't require it
Powers: Winged Flight, with big wings like those, Archosargus is a powerful, stable flier. He's weighty, and has a good gait, though when needed he is able to somehow fly almost without bobbing in any way, particularly if they're running a rescue mission. He can fly surprisingly fast, as well, and it's highly likely that his particular Hive-born unique power aids him in this regard, because he can land and take off from standing starts and not disturb hardly a grain of sand in the process. It's almost as if he has invisible secondary wings, aiding him in stabilization and speed! He can soar for hours on end, no need to stop, and can reach speeds up to 120 mph if they need to get home quickly without being spotted.
Swimming, Underground, Low-Visibility moves; in addition to flight, Archo is able to navigate easily in weirder conditions than just fog or storms. He can swim and can hold his breath for about half an hour, and is able to return to specific locations that are submerged. He likes to explore large caverns, though obviously he cannot fit in small locations. However, if he gets into a cavern somehow, he doesn't harm any of the rock formations there, and has never collapsed any arches, walls, or outcroppings. Even with his size, he seems to weigh nearly nothing.
Stealth, with brightly marked wings like that you'd think he would be easily spotted, but like his rider, if he wants to be unseen, you just do not know whrere he is. This includes sound and even to an extent other senses, though because he is quite big it's still possible to detect a heat signature if he rests in one spot for very long. Since he seems 'light footed' he hardly makes any noise, already, and with this power working, you'd be hard pressed to spot him even if he's literally running up behind you. Which he's been known to do, if a Combine troop carrier is driving around...
Communication, though he too speaks very little, Archo has the ability to speak Draconic, use his luminescent patches to communicate in Aquatic, but mainly speaks a strangely rumbling-hissing English, and understands about the same amount of Vortigese that anyone without Vortal inputs can. He can sense but not control insects, though he seems to be able to keep biting ones away from himself and his rider. He and Midell share a tight Vortal bond, and with her having that Xenian crystal, he always knows where she is, even without being in mental communication range.
Poison Tail Tip, his big tail is dangerous in more than one way, and that way is because there's a hollow stabby bit at the end of it. He smashes prey first, knocking the wind out of even large animals (there are actually... elephants, running around here... thanks to a zoo) and then stabs it with this sharp quill. Glands in his tail produce a strong neurotoxin that flows through the needle like spine, and will render even the big animals unable to breathe or move within minutes. It will easily kill anything with a nervous system, at basically any size, but he's very careful to avoid hitting people, Vorts, and other dragons with it. It does not 'leak' this poison, ever, but do not get too close to it, the spine itself is nearly as tall as his rider.
Parentage: Unknown, unrelated to any on the Rookery, looking for a mate

Other Info: Archosargus isn't sullen or moody, but he definitely likes to stick to business rather than being gregarious. He knows how to get down to things in a team, and likes having a clear idea of where he's supposed to be on that team. He respects strong leadership, and does enjoy having any of Paxton's dragons on it.
