The Brattle Theater hosts a great many amazing films in Boston MA, but they also host monthly 'Trash Night' viewings of truly the worst (and best worst) movies of our lives. It is at their Twitch channel that I was first introduced to the marvels they could show, during Covid no less. (Thanks to Baaulp who brought his chat directly to your door, Brattle...)While I personally will likely never be able to go to Boston and visit in person, I had always wanted to do something to show my appreciation for the Brattle and the great things it does for us all. Now, I play the game Fallout 4 a lot, and Fallout 4 is set IN Boston! What luck! However I can't really find where one might put the Brattle on the open world map. But that's fine, because some time recently, a mod-maker for the game's extensive creative community posted a location for settlement building. An interior settlement for the Boston Opera House. Now, I know that the locations are in no way the same, but I'm gonna take what I can get, and pretend real hard, that The Brattle is here, in a massive space. There are precious few actual photos of the Brattle's interior so I went with what I could find, pre and post-Covid. I can't really alter much of the walls or the run-down look because this IS Fallout 4, taking place in a ruined post-apocalyptic Commonwealth in an alternate history's future. But I managed to separate out spaces for the settlement population to live, work, and be entertained, filling out the theater's massive back stage, underground, and mezzanine locations with their daily activities, and dedicating the stage and seating area to what comes closest to the Brattle's interior images. Liberties have been taken, I know that the Casablanca cafe is now closed so I'm not super sure whether the gorgeous mural is still around anywhere, but it's preserved ... sorta... here too!Over time more settlers will arrive but right now (July 2023) I've only got 15 people living here. Most of them work on the 'farm', the flower shop, providing food, while a few others run the bar, the shops, and clinic. At some point this location will have a thriving community (.... maybe 40 people before I am done with my current game). They have a very functional stage, however, and a singer and backup available. |
** This is an image heavy page, sorry, I'm a Geocities survivor.

On arrival into the theater's lobby, there is a security post to the left, access to the mezzanine flower shop, and casino to the right, and straight ahead the main lounge. |
The lounge and nightclub has a few nice tables for couples or parties, a fully stocked bar, and three doors leading into the main stage. |
The lounge is serviced by Dane, your bartender! |
Before going to the stage let's take a look at the upstairs and assorted duties!Up the mezzanine stairs and in a nice nook is the 'flower shop', crops serving the settlement as well as being quite pretty! |
There is a small gym, where at least one old married couple likes to practice their moves together! |
They have a chapel with altars to various local beliefs up behind the stage; and a breakfast cafe (on opposite stage sides) |
The clothing shop and laundry area is near the seating in the theater |
And beyond the tailor, the clinic serving the medical needs of the community |
If you go behind the scenes, into the backstage area, you'll find plenty of amenities (hey in a post-apocalyptic world, running clean water and toilets are important!) |
Downstairs under the stage itself, there is a long strip of space used primarily for ...
|
A pair of balconies serve for further beds, hey you take what space you can get! (... yes I realize they're sleeping with their feet at the tops but I didn't make the beds, yo) |
Behind the main stage, their other shops are set up. Since this stage is quite large, and obviously never going to have a big 'rock star' show filling the theater in 2288 Boston, the stage has been split up into performance and work areas.Way up above, there are some leftover props in the rafters, scary! |
Up in the mezzanine past the flower shop is the actual seating area, and above that, a newly constructed third floor for the casino! |
The whole mezzanine is situated with a terrific view of the stage! |
But of course you're here for the stage show, aren't you?Come in through the lounge, then! |
Even the blue door is here... |
Along with what could be assembled of the mural, ya take what ya get... |
The view from the stage during a performance |
There's ample seating here! |
Catch a performance while you can! |
I hope you've enjoyed my tribute to the Brattle, I'll be taking more pictures as I play the game, but the area won't be changing a lot after this point. We love you, Brattle, and thank you so much for helping keep so many people - online and in person - entertained! |
Screenshots from Fallout 4 taken by Zekiran (Lethe) over the course of a few months playing the game in 2023. Mods listed here may contain material not suitable for all age groups or levels of stuckuppedness, just be aware of that. Also there are probably bits from other mods but I wanted to get this page up and running! Fallout 4 (c) Bethesda |
