Name: Doctor Luther Simmons (Engineering PhD) Gender: Male, Straight Age/DOB: 45@Events Origin: Repurposed Earth, Los Angeles California Family: Related to a CT Simmons, a Mason living in the early 20th century; no known children Other: A dependable engineer and transportation expert, depended upon by many to shuttle between facilities, everyone likes him. Height: 5'10 Weight: 150, slender build, not used to too much activity, but toned enough for dragon work. (particularly after deciding to become a transportation coordinator, to Rapture) Hair: Black, greying at temples, kept short and occasionally cleverly shaved (he can pretend he was all into that kind of style 'when it was new', no one's gonna know) Eyes: Light brown, tired Appearance: Medium brown skinned, usually wearing a lab coat or mechanic's overalls, prefers light colored clothing - contrary to the image he doesn't generally wear a tie any more. Doesn't keep facial hair; his eyebrows are quite expressive Genetic Abilities: None known Icarus Processing: None, would not benefit |

Skills or Profession: trained as an engineer, having a Ph.D in electrical engineering and computer sciences, and was part of the Black Mesa research team dedicated to the Lambda Teleportation system. Uses those skills to help build the teleporters to other (Repurposed Earths) destinations, and keeps them running. He likes to tinker, but he more enjoys seeing his work pay off - he's not the kind of 'mechanic that works on the same car for 15 years', he wants to see that car drive. He can spot a problem by listening to it, if it's a motor or mechanical device. He views his computer science side as a kind of troubleshooting tool, more than a goal in and of itself. Post-Events, and during the Rookery phase, he is of tremendous use in the Rapture facility, helping to solve the daunting issues of keeping that place running. It's a full time job, but he also finds time to shuttle people up to the surface - though why they'd want to, they're in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean for goodness' sake... |

Personality: Stable, sensible, and steady. If you needed to 'pick two' from the old addage "quality, speed, value" he's your 'quality, value' guy. He wants to get the work done well and using the right parts for the job. And if there aren't parts... he'll make them. Very clever, but directed and focused. He doesn't care much for the administrative side of things, and only dealt with it long enough to get hired and placed properly, at Black Mesa, so any further interference from the admin was less than welcome. He truly enjoys the fact that Lane now foregoes any and all of that paperwork, he can do his job as he sees fit, and doesn't need oversight. Heck, Simmons is the oversight - he's generally the on-hand expert, so why not enjoy that position. He would never be considered either 'bossy' or 'a pushover', he knows just how far to twist that bolt, and that applies to his people skills as well. | |
Events or History: Fairly typical of any given scientist working for Black Mesa, and among those that Lane directly influenced the prior HR manager to hire, along with Eli and other 'they're not white men!' Spent quite a few years developing and refining the Lambda technology, and that's where he still likes to keep his focus. With the Rookery, he's branched out a little, but even then their tech is similar enough and his job is hardly changed. He's a very good 'standby' for literally all engineering and science experimentation needs. Because Rapture does need to be connected to the rest of the Rookery in ways other than deep-sea diving-bell technology, he has a semi-permanent suite there, where his dragon can enjoy a proper life, and he can relax listening to the local music scene. Though he had been more or less full time at the Rookery early on, by RY6 or so he is effectively moved to Rapture and only on-call to other spots. He has a suite in the Mercury Estates apartments, apartment 73, which he also uses as a staging point for lab experiments, and has a very nice view of the trenches and rubble of the city where Campanula often drifts by with new goodies to examine. |
