Name: Alice duMont Gender: Female, pan Age/DOB: 26 / 2254 Origin: Vault Earth, Commonwealth - central Boston Family: father deceased, mother and sister working in Goodneighbor Other: it's very likely that she has at least one child remaining in Goodneighbor, but she doesn't talk about it and they don't appear to be close Height: 5'9" Weight: 140, thin but not skinny, not very curvy but less muscular than some at her height Hair: brightly blond, kept short, fluffy Eyes: blue hazel, mainly a denim color with some browns that almost match her dress sprinkled along the tops of the irises; close set, under expressive but hardly-visible brows Appearance: creamy tan skin, she has a small scar over her left eye across the brow, but it doesn't interfere with her vision; full lips, and a pleasant voice that can get pretty loud - she's used to talking over bar patrons; she wears a dress that she'd like to get fixed up into a more presentable state, but she loves the feather trim; typically has a smell of whatever is cooking or being served Genetic Abilities: seems to be quite resiliant against poisons and toxins, as she's known to sample virtually everything that passes for food in the settlement, and before that, in Goodneighbor's bars, with no ill-effects Icarus Processing: none, it's not clear whether she would benefit any more than she already has from her natual state |

Skills or Profession: brought up in a restaurant, and she knows how to serve patrons, cook, brew alcohol, and even how to keep people from wrecking the place if they get into a disagreement. She's very good with numbers and calculations, and for the time being she serves as the Settlement's 'banker'. She can be trusted to do this, having very little interest in throwing other people's money away. She can balance serving trays and dishes as well as the books and bottlecaps.
Personality: sensible and genial, she makes for an excellent bartender, willing and able to listen and offer advice to people. She's been doing this since she could walk, and though she certainly has her own preferences about who can or cannot have another drink, she is rarely willing to refuse a patron as long as they're behaving themselves. If they aren't, she will not hesitate to show them the door - or get someone stronger than she is, to do that if they get rowdy.
Events or History: Trinity had to stifle the giggle she'd held back for days, the moment that Alice showed up and wanted to put down, of all things, a restaurant here in the Settlement. She didn't even know why she laughed so hard at the idea, but she was tickled that the young woman would be wanting to set up here anyway. So Alice's Restaurant it would be. She was among the few settlers that came with provisions aplenty: her mother and sister brought things along with a brahmin, depositing all their goods they were willing to part with, and then headed back to Goodneighbor after bidding their family member farewell. It wasn't like they couldn't visit, the trip was reasonably safe along the well-established trade routes that Levi and his Minutemen... and his Synths and Supermutants had secured since he got the Commonwealth united. The Vault lighting was too bright, she kept saying. "It shines a lot," she squinted up at the built-in lighting unit over her counter. "But I suppose I'll get used to it. The Grog Hut in Goodneighbor was really dark all the time." "Did you need help setting up the brewing stations?" Trinity asked. Alice nodded, but looked over to the group of others who were already relaxing after a day's hard work outside. "Yeah, but that can wait a while. We've got enough booze and prepared foods for a few weeks at least right now, thanks to your... friends?" Those friends who created the entire Vault up above ground who had lurked in shadows or suddenly appeared in flashes of green-orange light, she meant. Trinity smiled. "Yeah, them. We won't be starving or hurting too much, really." At all - she could have said. They would be provided for if they started to struggle. But then Levi would have provided anyway, had the Lanes not intervened in his absence. She blinked at a thought, "oh, on that note... if there are things you want to try out, like spices or grains - things you might never have had access to here? I can get them." Alice narrowed her eyes in thought, looked around, and then dug out a small holotape. "Huh. I... always wondered about some of the ingredients that came in this one mixology tape," she handed it off to Trinity. "Maybe now's the time to find out? I made notes in it," she nodded toward it when Trinity tucked it into her side pouch. "If they have anything to add, I'd be happy to look at making new recipes." While most beers and wines were commonly found in the bars or clubs scattered around the Commonwealth, certain things had gotten harder to make. Tatos weren't potatoes, after all - real vodka wasn't the same any more. Hell, real grapes weren't available most of the time, they had to be brought up from other parts of the east coast. Maybe they would put up a section of the farm for just grapes, Alice had suggested that when she first arrived, claiming that the hill side was just perfect for that very crop. Trinity moved out of the way and let Alice get back to work, as she'd spotted Joanna's hand waving an empty glass. *** When the Vault had more people than could comfortably fit in the uppper areas, they moved downwards... where Alice sorted out just exactly where she would put down her food prep area, her bar, her restaurant. And though a smaller upper-area lunch stand still remains where they had put it in the earliest days, now that they were in the underground area she had room enough to put effort into it. The nightclub would be a centerpiece, but usually only after 'dark'. The cafeteria area had a large kitchen space behind the long counter, and tables for breakfast and lunch service round the clock. She would need helpers, and they came with the second wave of inhabitants. Temporary workers in the form of some of the Synths that would then be moved up to Acadia's experimental settlement on Gulper Island, kids and teens rescued from the wasteland and commonwealth, and one or two spares left over from Nuka World... They were the best, because they already knew how to flip burgers and deep fry radchicken wings. In a word, Alice was busy most of the time. And she wanted a little break. Time to experiment with the food flavors, time to actually sample that brew that had been worked up, travel maybe to the cranberry bog that those Ghouls had created, and perhaps even farther up into Acadia where she knew there were wild berries that would be perfect for her own wines. But first she had to make sure everyone at the Cafe and her Restaurant, as well as up on the surface in the lunch counter, knew their roles. She was being overly picky, and probably overly protective... But then this was a place that she called home, not just some quickly set-up kiosk, or temporary lodgings. If she came back and the place was in shambles she just did not know what she'd do. In the meantime however, once she was convinced (mostly by Trinity, and Chad who did much of the Restaurant's cooking) that things were as settled as they were going to be, and everyone knew how to do everything she usually did... She finally realized that she wanted to join the ranks of those who had a dragon to their name. A dragon would be able to carry her and supplies, and she'd heard a rumor that those who could teleport came back 'chilled, you should try the wine after it's been moved between' ... not that she thought a dragon would be of such little use! Even the small Gem dragons that worked in Aries' forge with him were more than just 'useful' - no beasts of burden (unlike those adorable furry flying llama things that had proven to be challenging even for the kids herding them up on the hillside). What kind of dragon might suit a restaurateur like herself? |
