Name: Derek "DJ RUCKUS" Rhodes Gender: Male, homosexual Age/DOB: 19@Arrival Origin: Aperturth, Chicago IL Family: His only real family is Logan, and now their dragons Other: He will definitely be tapped for DNA, and Mel has already offered to splice up the pair of bois if they want to start a family Height: 5'8" Weight: 135, muscular but lean, and long limbed, slinky Hair: dark brick-red, stringy, usually quite limp and in his eyes, but when powers go off it may frizz up; to neck or longer, has a chinstrap and heavy brows in the same color Eyes: pale aqua blue-green, considered quite pretty for a color, though he is usually up quite late and squinting, and has dark circles at all times Appearance: fair skinned with a number of scars mostly from scrabbling around during raves and climbing where he shouldn't have been, dresses all in blacks when he possibly can, and has a dark shell necklace that's paired with Logan's white; nose ring and gauges (not seen), and will probably acquire tattoos if he can find a good and safe inker; has somehow managed a much more Cali-Stoner accent than would normally be present on someone from the mid-west; almost always has the scent of slightly burnt hair Icarus Processing: none, however it is clear that the Resonance Cascade merely added to his power level, and didn't trigger the powers that he has. They'd been in use since he was around 13. His sense of hearing is extremely well defined, and he doesn't seem to be affected by any of the loudness he's been around or producing. |

Genetic Abilities: Derek is a talented guy, with a package deal fit for stage productions, or ... well, inciting riots. He has the power to project sounds, both his own voice and just anything that he can think of, along with amplifying or dampening nearby sounds. He can take a whisper and turn it into thundering echoes, or literally shut a jet engine down to a quiet hum, if he's concentrating. The power does require energy to maintain, so he tends to just start or end with it, rather than sustaining it for long periods. Most voice-level sounds can be sustained at distances up to 500 meters (!), though the louder/more dampened it needs to be, the more energy is required and the closer it must be to be effective. If pressed, he can use this power to create shockwaves or knockback effects, but it is very exhausting, and that's a last resort. The attack form is good for very close quarters only, less than 10 meters. Mostly he relies on a form of strobe or flash light-based energy to defend himself, he uses this nominally to light his own path or briefly dazzle a crowd, it's not particularly useful beyond 25 meters, but within 10 meters it can temporarily blind human eyes. This effect happens also when he teleports, a very bright sparkling flash, and if the viewer isn't completely blinded by this, there is a very faint dusting of directional sparks that may lead to where he's gone. His teleportation is likely the only power that was triggered by the RC, as it seems to be a very powerful, but uncontrolled, version of the light production he uses. Yes, he literally turns to light. It is very brief, after all he's as fast as light in this form, but he has tried to get it under control, since he doesn't actually know where he'll wind up. Even one second of light-speed movement might take him very, very far away. He usually is taken around 'one microsecond' away, 300 meters or so, and has yet to really go longer in terms of distance or time in transit. He's not convinced that this will remain true, however, and his greatest worry is that he will simply teleport off the planet and die. While this effect is brief and powerful, it is not exhausting for him, and if he's under a tremendous amount of pressure emotionally, he may bounce numerous times to just get away from everything quickly. Derek has yet to really get used to this ability even though it's both saved his life on numerous occasions, and seems to not require any form of concentration to use. He also gets a bit disoriented if he's suddenly in an area he's unfamiliar with, but he is always facing the same way he was when he started, his body reforms exactly as it was including any other momentum. He is his own portal - not even a portal gun, he just is the teleport. Melissa wants to see how this power compares to, say, Lane's inherent abilities, but genetically teleportation seems to be fairly complicated and still quite rare. Offensive power: Very strong Sonic attacks---4x normal power level Defensive Power: Strong Light defenses---4x normal power level Transport Power: Very high Teleport (changed from flight)---7x normal power level---This power is barely under control |

Skills or Profession: His rap sheet is a long list of Assault on a peace officer police officer fireman or emergency medical services professional / Inciting to riot / Riot in the second degree / Making graffiti; Derek is a troublemaker, but only in the right ways - so says his boyfriend anyway. He's responsible for a number of riots, but also a larger number of raves and parties across the mid-west during the last half-decade before the Resonance Cascade. He's very good with theater items, sound stage and equipment, music, and lighting. He's weaponized all of these things, and turned it into a political statement on more than one occasion. He doesn't have any fear of heights or narrow places, so he's often up in the rafters somewhere, and has a good ability to estimate structural soundness as well as materials. He's wanting to get more electronics and engineering under his belt, and Logan can help with that. Artistically he's edgy and somewhat bleak - his graffiti was hardly sunshine and rainbows, and was always to the point. Defacing billboards and tagging structures was what led him to be taken in by Aperture - his bane.
Personality: Weakness: Afraid of Something (see above); Derek is an idealist, strong willed, focused, but still young and inexperienced. He's too young to be this jaded, but here he is. Actually he isn't truly jaded but he likes to pretend that's what his world view is. If he was actually, he would hardly be out and about trying to get people to change things. Once the Resonance Cascade hit, things did change, and he didn't much care for it. He was, however, rather pleased that Aperture got what it deserved - even though it's still clearly in charge and at least partially up and running over there, their reputation is in shambles, and they're likely to become a totalitarian regime... Again, so says he. The chances of that happening are slim, as they lack the direction that would require... Derek does have a strong dedication to his friends and Logan in particular, and will consult people he believes are educated in a field or situation before really jumping to conclusions. His conclusions about his homeworld aren't all that far off from the truth, but here in the Rookery he is rather unsure of where to go.
Events or History: As a kid, he was always interested in posters and rock stars, music and theater. And while his mother was quite supportive of this, his father... not so much. He didn't want some 'wimpy theater nerd' as a son. He wasn't even ten when he knew that he wasn't straight, and also knew perfectly well that his father would hate that too. But there was a point when Derek just could not stand the endless refusal and hiding these things from his father - and ran away, never once looking back. Hardly even twelve at that point, his powers had already begun to surface, and that saved his life a good couple times. He was found and brought back home twice by the time he was fifteen, and jailed a few more. Needless to say his father was furious, but by the time his powers were reasonably solid and strong, he was more apt to openly argue and disagree with the man, than allow him to shove him around or berate him any further. Finally standing up to him, he walked out and was not pursued, one last time, before the Resonance Cascade. But in that time - two years - he met and fell in with a weirder, wilder crowd than ever. It was when he met Logan that they started to realize that the world was actually conspiring, whether it was against anyone in particular neither of them knew - and both wanted to know more. Together then, they began peeking into Aperture's communication and networks, which did lead to them being on the capture list. They had not undergone any experimentation when they were put on that bus one fateful day - but both were on their way to it. When Lane moved them from their home dimension to the Rookery, both of them would have been more comfortable remaining on hand at the Mansion - but neither of them could sit still long enough to concentrate on the fight at hand. Because they're both still quite talented, however, they've been moved over to the Mojave. And though it's a little dustier and needs more repairs... Logan and Derek are actually a lot more at home in New Vegas than they could be elsewhere. Derek and his little dragons work in the Tops casino and hotel, maintaining the stage and doing advertising. |
