"You're not seriously going to wear that are you?" Caelnya said to her 'friend' in the VIP escort room. There was a big shindig for the dragon riders and their friends, but there would be politicians and local television people there too - it was one of the few weeknights that the students weren't required to take home any work, in fact they were encouraged to have all of it done before then. But this girl, Caelnya, was pretty sure that her fellow student had never set foot into a fashionable store, and certainly didn't know what the words 'hair salon' meant. The girl had a dragon, too, which was even more shameful for Caelnya. "Look, just... If you're going to be going to this thing, at least... comb the fur, okay?" Caelnya said to Disruptor over her shoulder as she went outside to join Peralyn. Outside there were already half a dozen such pairs, mostly students since they were already on campus. Some of the instructors who were riders went home briefly to pick up things, or change, or whatever - but Caelnya always looked this good, so why bother? "You do look pretty today," Peralyn said, "and I do too. We're probably the prettiest people here." The dragon always referred to herself as 'people', mixing human, furry, alien and dragon all into one lump. Unless they were substandard. In which case whatever it was was human, or elf, or doggiegirl. Peralyn thought Disruptor had been a furry at first, but then realized that the outfit she wore was actually all fur, neck to toes... "What a freak," she commented, and then saw the pair of dragons that the girl hung out with. "And speaking of freaks," she muttered close to Caelnya's ear. The black-haired girl turned to see a two-headed lime green and black furry dragon, and that weirdly glowing one, that both called Disruptor their friend. Caelnya suppressed a shudder. "Oh. My. God. Let's just go to the Speaker's Square, just don't even look at them." The green and black Cac-Yau on the other hand glared right back at the two haughty students, but got nothing but a cold shoulder. The only reason that Peralyn didn't say anything more was because she was quite small compared to both of those dragons, and there was no point in getting mussed up if she got into a fight. When Cac-Yau was younger, yes of course - she felt it her duty to break in any other that came near her. Caelnya started chatting with one of the city supervisors, always cool in situations like these. She made sure to be on camera, poised and pretty. She noticed that the loud and obnoxious Disruptor had started talking to the President - well it wasn't their president but Caelnya always called Piers Hoarfrost that because he was a president on his own world. He seemed to actually... be ... enjoying the conversation. "It's because she's got the two dragons," Peralyn hissed, angrily. "I overheard them, they're discussing how she did it. How did she do it anyway?" "I think she just went right out and did it," Caelnya said. She turned to her co-conspirator, and narrowed her eyes. "Well if she can do it, there's nothing stopping me. Are you with me?" "Of course I am, but... we'll need a lift somewhere. Unlesssss..." Peralyn glanced at the open doorway to the Magic Studies hall. It was busy, and a lot of non-magical dragon riders had been going in and out of there. They knew there was a portal room, one which was a lot easier to use than the one inside the Admin building, or the inaccessable one in the Alabaster tower. Caelnya quickly darted over to the building, as the party continued into the late afternoon. It was bright and sunny the whole time, but there were plenty of people around. And it looked like the wards and barriers keeping the wrong students out had been let down. It was a bit of a squeeze even with the double-doors open, but Peralyn made it through too. They snaked their way into the courtyard in the Magic Studies area (all the while memorizing things they saw - you never knew when it would come in handy to know things you just weren't meant to know!) and then dove through the first portal they found. It led them...... |

The Black White and Red 'giveaway' section of a large, spaceborn dragonry. Caelnya's family was rich, rich enough to afford offworld travel now and again. They'd gone around different dimensions once or twice too - and this spot was something maybe she'd recalled from those trips. She had a bit of a grasp on how magic worked, but not working it herself of course. "That was convienent," she muttered, and Peralyn coiled herself around her bond to keep her protected just in case. There was never any doubt that Peralyn loved Calenya, it was just not often she showed it. The location was high-tech, but felt almost old-fashioned. There were dragons about, after all. One in particular came unsteadily from his group, newly hatched it looked like, and glared at Caelnya and Peralyn intently with blood red eyes. He had no wings, but he did have two appendages which immediately became apparent as useful: he snapped them up in front of Peralyn and zapped a tiny spark of lightning between them. "Back off," he said, his voice was high and adorable, but his growl meant business. "Oh he's a cutie," Peralyn said, turning to look at Caelnya's face, but the girl was grinning. "Oh you can't be serious... I suppose you can..." Caelnya looked around. Though there were people they weren't intent on watching her. After all there were plenty of others making waves. She scooped up the hatchling, ducked under Peralyn's stunted wing, and hissed, "let's go!" "You're stealing him?" "I'm not stealing him, we're giving him a new home. I think he'll like it with us, actually..." Caelnya said, and ignored the confused looks on both dragons' faces. They slipped back away, through a corridor and where the weird dark-shimmering portal still stood back to Carramba High. |

Eventually, it was obvious that little Ciru did in fact belong with this pair of arrogant females. He was just as bad - but insisted on backing up the females whenever he could. They had good ideas, they had interesting plans... They made other people look bad in comparison, and that was all he needed. They did insist on putting him in classes, which he did but grudgingly. Though when it came time for the year to start he immediately got into it, and got reasonably good grades while he was at it. Especially in the classes where he got to show off his agility or his poisons. As he grew, his poison became more potent. His lightning strikes more deadly, and his ability to stick himself on the ceiling or into a balcony in order to drop from above was clearly more fun than just walking around. Weirdly, half the cheerleading class really loved him. Mainly because at events (when the girls could convince him to attend, and they needed convincing a lot of the time too) he would join in jeering at the opponents team - and the fans as well. |
