Name |
Kallwan Arrish, Journeyman Starcrafter |
Gender |
Nonbinary, Female presenting (in another era they would call this 'butch' and she lives up to that every moment), she/they
|
Homeworld |
"The Old World" Pern, no one knows which version though, since there seem to be several with aspects common to their background information |
Species |
Spacefaring Dragon-Riding human, with some 2000 years of evolution under bizarre circumstances as well as a little bit of experimentation on ancestry here and there |
Totem |
Jackal, the 'scary harbinger of death' totem. Scary, dark, misunderstood. Slobbers when happy or upon hearing a dinner bell (look, with the 'ancestry' being who they appear to be, this is just another Sanger for the roster...)

Powers |
Toughness - takes twice the amount of Meat/Bonk before face-planting - Kallwan is like most Sangers, incredibly tough physically. She is not tremendously strong nor agile, but she is a powerhouse. Tall and deceptively slender, a punch landed on her gut might stand a good chance of bruising that fist... And she can take those punches for a good long while. Also she can do PE events interminably, she just keeps going and going until a coach tells her to stop
Family Ties - rely upon an elder or other relative to correct a problem, but only once per person/month. She doesn't do this lightly, knowing that the 'relatives' here are doppelgangers of her own family back on Pern. But virtually any Sanger worth their name will come to her aid, and she to theirs as well. Since there are like a dozen of them here on Carramba's roster, she thinks it's pretty fun to cycle through them and 'put the old guys through their paces'...
Dragon Rider Born, Sanger Bred - Because most versions of Sanger have 'issues' she does have a fairly typical appearance of tanned skin and black hair, vibrant blue eyes, and a strong nose. But her resemblance to them doesn't end there by any stretch. She is born from a line that was 'altered' at least three generations back, with the concoction similar to that which was used to create dragons out of flitters. This has given her a very strong dragon-sensitive mind, keen eyesight and hearing, as well as a sense of atmospheric pressure which helps when riders are up and about. While she will have certain 'powers' they are based on the dragon she has impressed, and others are all her own.
-- Learns Almost Instantly, Hardly Ever Forgets, That '10' in Smarts is there for a reason. Even though she's younger than most, she's mature enough to have seen plenty, and rose through the Starcraft Guild ranks far quicker than any other they'd seen. The only reason she's only a Journeyman (at 12, she's been doing this all her life) is her Search interrupted finals, and then obviously coming to a new dimension... But she's definitely a master at most of her studies thanks to the weird experimentation on great-grand-mama, and her mind never stops looking for new things to learn. This has however given her a very strong edge acting as a +2 to any related skill/clusters as a 'freebie'
-- Strong Dragon Telepathy, though she cannot 'hear all' dragons, she has a very good sense of them particularly when they gather up as fighting or parade wings. Had she not Impressed a purple, some feel that she might have done equally well on a bronze! Able to detect dragon movement, she can also sense when they are communicating to one another, though she cannot decode their ultra-fast minds. Most dragons seem to like her, and while they wouldn't go out of their way to listen to her over their own rider, they accept her and her dragon very rapidly into any event or duty roster
-- Particularly Strong Senses, like most Sangers, her eyes and ears are very keen indeed, and she's able to read newsprint from a hovering dragon's back (not too high, but definitely farther than you'd ever expect). Her eyes are also capable of sight in near darkness, and aren't usually blinded if there is a flash or bright lights. She can hear minute changes in voices, the gurgling of nervous stomachs, and the creaking and flutter of dragon wings to determine if anything is wrong with all of those. Kallwan's sense of pressure is something she didn't even realize she had, until having been Searched and brought to a Weyr from her Guild home. Up in the mountains, she claimed she could sense the winds shifting, and even predicted not only a stiff rainfall on the way, but Thread when it appeared later that same year. She uses this in flight, quickly assessing the motion of the dragons around her, the winds and breezes, as well as any other normally-unpredictable factors in Threadfall, and has never once allowed either her dragon or any other on her wing to be scored
-- Teleportation, obviously Zudisath is responsible for this! But Kallwan is very capable of gazing quickly at a star chart, or even at a twilight sky somewhere she's been a while, and knowing exactly which direction to head or what location to arrive at even without there being stars to guide them. Adept with navigation, she was a member of a Starcrafters Guild, so there's that...

Clusters 9 |
All In The Stars +4(2) The Starcraft would love to have her back. The moment she spotted a mistake in an old-and-well-used chart, things got heated. But she was right, that star was out of place, and had led to more than one error in flight pathing over the decades. She realized that star charts would need to be updated regularly. The skies weren't just painted on and left to dry, after all, and if they needed to navigate by them, by golly, she'd make sure that every single star in the sky was correctly categorized and plotted! When she was brought out from her native world, and into a new one, though it did take a little bit of adjustment, she has never confused Twoarth's skies for any other realm - and yes, she has been to other worlds! Those big 'dragon teleportation collection plates' are super fun to scoot around aren't they! She has a massive boost to any navigational skill set, and can give flawless directions if she's been able to glance over an area beforehand. She hates - hates - those 'Gooble' maps, they're so often innacurate! But up on a dragon's back there's no mistaking a traffic jam for clear roads, right? This cluster also covers her ability to physically draw charts with extreme precision, she has impeccable printing and can read and write in numerous languages thanks to her linguistic ability
Dragon Care and Tactics +3(2) Though born into a guild, she's more than smart enough to understand nuances and reads quickly, so any given textbook's testing is finished up in a week or less. She knows more theory than practical hands-on work, however, and is still getting used to the physical aspects of being a dragon rider. But she knows how to read threadfall charts, make adjustments to flight path coordination, and when to bring a dragon in for a physical checkup when she can't fix their ailments herself
|
Skills 12 |
Fitness +3 Energetic and healthy, though a bit on the jumpy side like many in her namesake's line, Kallwan chooses sparring over racing, she likes to compare her work with others of similar size and strength
Natural Linguist +3 Like most Sangers she picks up nuanced speech, body language, and intent just by observing for a few minutes. Mostly Human interaction is covered but she can learn the ways a feline Kin sways or presses their ears back, or how a Hathian dragon ruffles their scales. Unlike many with this skill she also applies herself to learn the written form of any given language the moment she knows it exists, and can write and decode virtually any humanoid scribbles if she's heard the language
|
Knacks 4 |
Like Minded Individuals +2 Enjoys hanging out with dragon riders, night sky enthusiasts, list makers, and Sangers of basically any dimension, as they all always have something to talk about
Easily Trained By The Wrong People +2 She's still a Sanger. She doesn't learn the wrong habits, but she often will hang with the wrong people in order to learn from them. She knows right from wrong, she knows bad from good. She just sometimes chooses poorly who to pick up that skillset from, and yes, like most of them, has a penchant for falling for blondes

They live off campus in the dragonry dorms. They have a Subservient personality - while she is definitely able to fend for herself, if she's on a team she needs to know her place and sticks with it unless lives are on the line. |

Dragon |
Name: Zudisath
Gender: Male (offgendered for Alskyran colors)
Size/Shoulder/Length: Medium-Small 8'8" s / 37' l / 60' ws
Colors: Body violet with lighter and darker shimmer, markings in very deep violet-black on face, upper limbs, in rings around back and tail ridges, and on wingsails at the edges between fingers
Features: Nonstandard Pernese, even a bit different than an Alskyran (though - what about an Alskyran sea dragon? they absolutely come in this color and gender, and those slightly webbed looking feet?)
Powers: Winged Flight, quick and extremely receptive to the whim of his rider, Zudi and Kallwan move as one when they're fighting Thread. She listens to the wind, he listens to her, she can feel his tail swish wasn't that too close for comfort get a little higher there we go!
Teleportation, local, long-distance, genre-hop; Zudisath is capable of teleporting anywhere his rider wants to be. That's that. Doesn't seem to matter whether it's on-planet, offworld in the same dimension, or outside of those things and through to other weird locations. He can't really go 'by himself', except to find her when they're separated. Also he doesn't exhibit any signs of wear and tear from longer trips, and is just as energetic on the other side of a multidimensional jaunt as he is from zipping down to the beach and back
Telepathy, a quick and clever mind, but very tied to his rider's, he will give feedback about who she's hanging with, what others are talking about up the street, and generally helps her answer questions before they're even uttered. Loves listening in on the classes she attends, but he does know his own limits and isn't really student material himself. Can detect other telepathic minds no matter their origin at up to 2 miles, and communicate with other Old World dragons at up to 50 miles easily
Unassisted Firebreath, like some born to traditionally 'assisted' fire breathers, being on another dimension when laid and hatched means that his fire comes out hot, with no messy aftertaste of chewed firestone. His flames are accurate in a 'beam' up to 200 meters, a shorter range 50 meter fan shape, and a large blow-up of superheated air that may spark with another dragon's burn, that covers a wide 20 meter sphere
Parentage: Pink Flamingo Vaoth and and Neon Blue Black Yuth with added Sixth (... look they're all Sangers around here)
Mate/Offspring:
None yet, too young!
Origin: Old World Pern but who knows which version, hatched on Twoarth
Art By:
Adopted from 8Siren on Bronzehalo lines, on Deviantart
Other Info: Chatty, friendly, but serious business when they are actually fighting Thread; they've gone on numerous defensive jaunts with H'lis and T'ver back to other Perns, and uses this to gain strength, tactical knowledge, and experience. Whether they will return to their own home Pern or not, they will become a very important pair of fighters and star chart makers!
