The information which is required for all 5th Matrix participants is as follows. Please either cut and paste the html to a page (feel free to right-click on the table for the nifty half-transparent background, or the background itself but please use the link for Droppin the Fork) or just use a text file to upload to the ezboard. Please remember that no human can claim to be "related" to any of the movie characters - period. This rpg takes place some 200 years BEFORE the movies. There is no "One", nor is there a search going on for one at this time. However, Zion is looking for council members, people who can pilot or fix hovercraft, and in fact looking for a leader. Certain programs (Agents) may be played as regular characters but remember: unless they're going Rogue some time, they will only ever want to kill or reformat another character... |
This is a chart for "general" character Types and Origins - If you come up with a new one, please make sure to run it by Charybdis before using it!
I am giving examples from the Matrix movies to make it more clear what is going on with the descriptions. Please do not think that this implies that any or all of the people or programs listed exist in our 5th Matrix - because not all of them do.
Zionite |
This type may not have any plugs and CANNOT enter the Matrix. IF they are under 12 years of age, they may be TAKEN to the Matrix power plant and plugged in - but I don't recommend it... Any Zionite without plugs that is an adult over 12 WILL be killed by Sentinels - they do not need strays running around, and adults are of no use to them. These are people who were born the "good old fashioned" way, either in Zion or elsewhere on the surface. They must scrape together their life the hard way as well. There is no sunlight, and little pure water or food supplies. Good luck. Link or Zee are good examples of Zionites without plugs. They cannot enter, but they can view the Matrix. |
Freedom Fighter |
This is a human who has been pulled from the Matrix by Zionites or some other means. They are free from the constraints of the Matrix programs, but they are NOT contributing to the power supply. They live outside the Matrix either on a ship to support finding others, in Zion mingling and trying to make their own life outside, or scrabbling for their own existence alone. Generally speaking, they are not welcome in the Matrix because they might show off unusual abilities - Agents do not like them because they break rules and don't contribute to the power supply. Rogues who are addicted to Mind-power do not like them because they have no access TO their power! What pests! These types require a broadcast station - a hovercraft like the Icarus, or a ground-based connection - in order to enter the Matrix. Neo and Trinity are examples of this Type. They can plug in at will but do not need to worry about anything other than escaping with their minds intact - oh, and the Sentinels outside their ship... |
Awakened Matrix Inhabitant |
This type is an above-average Matrix person, aware of the Matrix through some means - however they are not outside it yet. They have not been unplugged, and are still contributing to the power plant. They may find themselves able to do amazing things like fly, leap across building tops, and perform super-speedy actions. They also may find themselves on the losing end of a fight with Agents, or have a fan club of vampiric Rogue programs. Either way, they are attracting attention and must keep running. There is no rest for these people. If they have a nice defending Vampire on their side, it might be much easier for them to remain safe. It's a two edged life... They must know they're contributing to some program's addiction as well as the Matrix power plant in general. But - they get all the sensations and life that the Matrix can offer plus their own amazing powers... hmmn. Blue pill anyone? Before any Freedom Fighter is out of the Matrix, they stand at this level. The children who were "the other Potentials" at the Oracle's home are Awakened. |
Matrix Meat |
The sheep living their lives out blissfully unaware - and uncaring - about their situation. They fully believe everything their senses tell them. So, anything the Matrix designers and programmers want them to see or hear, they do. These people are still people by every definition - girlfriends, dads, brothers and even offspring? Remember that "offspring" is a purely invented thing, after all the Mainframe grows people - they don't really "mate" in the Matrix. But they can be concerned, in love, arrogant, hateful, jealous, generous... All the things that we are right here and now. Everyone Else in the Matrix belongs here. |
Vampire Program |
This is a Rogue program who has abandoned their post or was meant to be deleted, but has not gone back to the Source for proper recycling. They are friendly enough people - but they have an unusual - and completely inhuman - appetite for the mental power that comes from Awakened individuals. They foster great love for such people, because they can home in on their pod and tap into the power directly. They may be "good" or "evil" mostly depending on how much they want that power, and what they will do to get it. They do not have any desire to leave the Matrix, but they probably could - see Rogue below. If you look at the way she acts - the Oracle is such a vampire. She loves having awakened kids around her... ;> |
Rogue Program |
A more generic Rogue program is simply one which has chosen to live in hiding, within the Matrix itself, instead of being deleted for any given reason. One might need to look at what they were supposed to be doing BEFORE they went rogue, why they had to choose exile, and how they usually act toward both other programs, or humans - or Agents. These programs MIGHT be able to leave the Matrix - if they find a way like Smith did to download himself into a human on their way back to Zion. It is more possible and probably easier for them to insert themselves into a body in a pod, before being pulled out, than to virus themselves out that way. Multiple copies are possible, but not encouraged. The Merovingian, the new Smith, Seraph and possibly Morpheus are Rogue Programs. |
Running Program |
This is a program which is not visible to the normal Human viewer. It is a program that only runs what it is told to, and cannot do anything but that. They are like the Matrix Meat but in program terms. They are not able to exert any personal "will power" over anything, as they do not seem to have a self-image beyond their work. They are trees. Wind. Gravity. The color Yellow as seen through stained glass... All functions of the Matrix, and most Sentinels, fall into this category. Some Sentinels seem to be able to beat this, but their AI is very poor compared to any other programs. (See "Matriculated" in Animatrix for examples of rogue running programs.) |
Dominant Program |
This is a program whose job it is to do some particular thing, but is able to extend some amount of personal control and choice in their work. Agents, possibly the Architect, and other such "important" programs fall into this category. They are set to do one thing and one thing only. Agents, obviously, are responsible for taking down Rogues and trying to capture awakened individuals before they become a problem. Others might include reformatting programs, rendering programs (who might act like they are a living art program?), accounting or numerical processors (I wonder if the Merovingian was one such as that? His chosen field is information after all...). These programs may be very vitally important to the functioning of the Matrix, and are completely subject to its command and control. They might go Rogue, themselves, if another program comes along that is "better" than they are. They cannot leave the Matrix, that we know of, but then again, to reign in Hell is better than to serve in Heaven... The Architect is the only really good example of this in the movies. Agents fall somewhere "below" him on the power scale, but they are performing their specific function at the same time as exerting some of their own personal flair. |

This site is a fan site which does not deal with the "current" Matrix storyline. Main characters such as Neo, Trinity and Morpheus do not exist here. Certain programs may present themselves. Without the Matrix, this site would not exist and my brain would rot in its shell..
