Welcome to Beeblebrox Planetary Tours!
Suggested Soundtrack for Hitch Hiking through my Tour
Listening to music is a very important thing for every living sentient. Without music in a person's life, it would be a dull, lonely existence. With it, of course, life is cool.
If you can't get ahold of the latest Disaster Area disk or Firebird Fox's live tour double-album, by all means try and hunt up some of these other space-travel favorites.
Lost In Spice - Spicelab
This fantastic voyage through Space/Spice is just about the most amazing piece of music I've ever listened to. With very long, purely instrumental tracks, Lost In Spice should please anyone with a long journey ahead and the desire to keep their heart rate up. The tracks are upbeat and quick, however they are all oddly moody and even somewhat frightening to young children. The visual imagery in this disk is well worth exploring, where ever your mind takes you when you're listening to it, it'll be a real trip!
Poland - Tangerine Dream Live
A huge two disk set with all of FOUR tracks. It is difficult to imagine that this music was produced in front of a live audience, a very appreciative one at that - polite too. All I can do is wonder what this show was like. There are equal amounts of soothing sonic haze, inescapable rhythm, and powerful aural imagery throughout this album. My suggestion? Try planetfall while playing the last track, "Horizon". This 21 minute masterpiece is the best live track ever produced. - Make sure that you're listening to the original format, not the horrid remix that was released 15 years later. This album is an absolute must for space travelers.
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
With the spread of tunes on this album reaching from traditional rock and roll to utter space acid trip, it's no wonder that Pink Floyd has been one of the most popular bands of all time. This particular album touches on many facets of life, each track bringing something slightly different but well worth the listen. Shine On You Crazy Diamond ought to be playing forever.
One Of These Nights - Eagles
Though this album does have many quality tunes on it, the reason it hits this list is because of one particular track - Journey of the Sorcerer. This is, of course, the theme song to the radio version of the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy which aired on Earth sometime during the 1970s and 80s. Lyin' Eyes, Take It To The Limit, and of course the title track, are all great listening, hits in their own right.
Heaven And Hell - Black Sabbath
A truly impressive heavy metal group with a mighty good headlining tune. This particular track is one of the most mood enhancing, gothically touching songs ever put to memory.
Meddle - Pink Floyd
Another of the weirdest, coolest and spookiest albums made. Even though many music critics hate the first half of the album, the whole thing is just fantastic. Echoes, the gigantic second side-filling b-side, is utterly fank. But I like the entire album, especially Seamus. That's the dog.
Children of the Sun/21st Century Man - Billy Thorpe
The first album is available on cd, however the second is not. Sadly, it's the better of the two and the more appropriately "spacy" music. It's a rock opera set in the "future" of Earth - in 1991 to be precise. Even so, it's a fantastic and beautiful ode to space and discovery and love. And, more importantly, it's where Caledrus is from.
Bible of Dreams - Juno Reactor
In fact any album by Juno Reactor will do, but this one in particular is I think their very best work. It takes you on a solidly built wild ride, pushing your rave limit and keeping your tranced mind occupied. God is God, perhaps one of my all-time favorite tunes, is something that everyone should dance through deep space to.
Future Primitives - Intermix
This production of beat and sampled sounds is unparalleled. Even by other sections of Intermix's incarnations (Delerium, Front Line Assembly, Synaesthaesia, etc) this album captures music in its most raw form. It's pleasing beats will make you believe you're flying through a jungle, or over a vast savannah... The imagery is solid, a great album to throw back your head and howl to.
Green Dreams - Bypass Unit
With a long selection of beat-crazy tracks, this album is good for quick, aggressive piloting, with a bit of lightheartedness thrown in. It is not lyrical yet each tune tells a story quite well. Tunnel Floatation is certainly a wonderful mix of theme and vision. Great stuff.
Special Mention: Moogie Woogie - The Zeet Band
For the longest time, I only knew the name of this band, and that it was of impossible value for those planning to musically assist their Hitch Hiking experience. While researching for this very site, I finally came across full information about it. "Moogie Woogie" is the title of this amazing little album, it's what you're listening to right now. I will endeavor to make downloads of this brilliant - if a little cheesy - work. Early stage of electronics, hence the name "moog" is it's main instrument, blended with blues, space-disco, rock and traditional sounding instrumental tracks. Made in 1969... long before disco, space music or most true electronic music had been thought up. Ghods bless Zeet!
Special Mention: Songs of the Sims
That's right, the Sims computer game. All of the music is available on MP3, so I made 4 disks worth of mixes. Well worth the trip, I'd say. What with the "almost" lyrics ranging from "mock-rap" to "almost-metal" and the classic "not-quite-luau". Amazing.
