(Reproducing things from the character sheet in here)
Conditions and Special Information - Without bones in the way, Vioq can
move incredibly rapidly through the water, but relies on raw muscular strength to get up on land and look like
a person; he is very, very muscular. When he's on land, he appears soft and sort of squishy, and his senses
operate far better when he is immersed than dry. He will take damage over time if he's not able to be at least
moist. Requires fish diet, can't digest plant matter. Polluted water will cause immediate blistering and pain,
though it must be really nasty, not just poop-water. His display behavior may leak toxins so don't surprise him.
Fertility - Even though he is clearly spliced, he is still marginally
able to sire offspring since he does have normal parts.
However he is far more fertile with any water-based spliced
folk, and could easily be put into genetic splices himself.
Thankfully he does not mate and die, like his core splice... His Zekiran lineage is markedly
long-lived, nearly immortal, and
even with splices of shorter
lived species types, this will
breed true.
Limb flexibility - Obviously he has stunning
agility while in water, but also can grasp items
with his 'feet' as they have highly sensitive
suckers for manipulation (+Manual Dex).
He can handle 4 items (1/pair) in addition to
his hands, only when he is semi-immersed or
in water. He can use 2 pair of legs for this
when required to also be standing / out of water.
Skin- not only can he manipulate the shapes
and sizes of the blue rings on his brilliant
goldenrod skin, those rings produce extremely
strong toxins. Thankfully this toxin neutralizes
in open air, so he can still shake hands with
someone with dry hands and not kill them.
In water however, this toxin will do up to 16
points of damage to nervous systems, which
is enough to kill arm-length fish. He allows his
skin to be dabbed and used to create antitoxins
that are available everywhere on the island.
Touchy-Feely- every one of his legs is covered in
small suckers which supply information about
temperature, pressure, texture, weight, and
other physical traits. He is keenly aware of his
surroundings. However this works best when
wet, and if he is fully dry they only function at
half normal Reaction value. His hands do not
have suckers and act as normal.
Internal structure - Boneless save for the beak-like jaw
and teeth, he has soft cartilage everywhere else,
thicker around his facial area and spine, emulating a
skeleton but considerably more flexible.
He can squeeze through spaces about as wide
as his head (face, actually) as everything can
compress without pain. He can only do this in wet
environments, though can still fit through torso-wide
areas when he is dry, and that doesn't feel good at all.
Able to survive deep-sea pressure, and can withstand
crushing damage easily. Can also handle bashing
damage outside of water. Does not suffer any kind
of negative modifiers in water, can move and act
as normal at any depth.
Breathes both air and water, though he must open
his mouth to breathe lacking a nose - he has gills
in addition to lungs, and expresses the water
before 'swapping' between them.
Big Big Brain - As most cephalopods do, he has a massive brain that
resides in a much more flexible head space than merely a skull. His
brain is nearly twice the size of a normal Zekiran's, and allows him to
learn at a staggering rate, as well as do problem solving and complex
visual or 3D tasks (his eyes adjust in water as an octopus's might),
and since he has so many limbs to maintain, halfway down his back
above his 'hips' is a second smaller brain cluster that handles sensory
input from his legs. He does have pointed ears under that braincase,
though no special levels of hearing.
Powers
He can train one creature at a time intensely well, and does best with creatures that have a minimum of 35 Int (octos, squid, some
dragons), so a 'trick' or behavior that would normally take 2 months would only take 2 weeks.
Sense and manipulate volumes of water up to 500 gallons nearby, or to a range of around 200 meters for a small volume. Can detect
items as small as one finger-long fish, direction of current, temperature, and any pollutants. Can purify 30 gallons with concentration
in around 15 minutes, but must rest after.
Utilizes local animals and dragons for splicing as defense and perimeter guards. Can alter not only the overt features (texture, color,
thickness or traits of surfaces, or small limbs entirely) but the genetic makeup of sea-creatures either natural or spliced. This does
include Zekirans with sea creature genes, but only alters those sea-based parts. This means he can permanently alter a creature's
skin feature so it breeds true. Also has the ability to either harm or heal sea animals or spliced people for 16 points either way, touch.
He can sense through octopuses up to 2 miles away, easily visualizing their locations, though he cannot control them at range.
Friends, Enemies, Etc - Vioq has few close friends, but plenty of allies and connections among the sea-faring types - rare as they are, they do
tend to stick together. He has shipping and fishery contacts in K'vora, and tourist cruises sometimes pass his island. With dragons in the mix, many coastal Zones have contracted for Sea Dragons as well as smaller guard animals that swim quickly and have dangerous alien-killing features.

Most Zekirans do not reside near the sea - the oceans there are much less salty than they are on Earth, and thus buoyancy is a bit of an issue, compounding that is that Zekirans have little body fat and don't exactly float anyway. But some of them have been engineered to be appropriate to the oceans, bays, rivers, and lakes of the world. He was spliced with dangerous little 'ring marked' octopus genes (whether they're named the same as those found on Earth is irrelevant, here he is), and as such his appearance can change slightly with modest control over the shape and intensity of the rings, but also to an extent the texture and vibrancy of his entire skin. He cannot truly shift his appearance or act like an octopus with textures but then he doesn't need to blend in or hide from bigger predators. Those rings do come with strong neurotoxin. However the toxins neutralize in air.
Vioq is friendly, but not remarkably social. He has limitations that inherently restrict his contact with other people - not the least of which is that he must be at least 'moist' most of the day, and preferably immersed at least halfway in water. He will begin to dry out, but also since he lacks a skeleton (he has strong cartilage instead) he starts to slowly squish. He has no nose on his broad face, but also has a solid beak type jaw similar to an octopus so speaking is difficult. While he's out of the water, he can stand upright, with those incredible muscles he's got keeping him standing. His tentacle legs are extremely sensitive and he can hold small items with them, though if he's also having to stand out of water he can only use two pair to do this. If he's kicking back in water, manipulating items specific to an underwater use, he can use all 8 of them in addition to his normally-built hands.
He has no hair (Zekirans typically don't have body hair, it'd be a mutation if they did) but that 'hair like' head of his? It's filled with brain. He is masterful at logic and puzzles, exploration in 3d spaces such as water, and has organizational skills that are quite impressive since he does have to keep track of all those legs. The sensory organs in the suckers are quite good at detecting motion, heat, pressure, texture, everything a fingertip might, only magnified across 8 foot long limbs. His body has a smaller brain cluster in the spine, to filter that input. Like octopuses, his eyes focus using a different mechanism than normal humanoids, by squishing or stretching the eyeball itself, and when he's deep below the surface he can still see about half again better than any humanoid might. Under water, he can breathe and move with ease, and suffers no penalties being at 30 feet or 400 feet below the surface: he doesn't mind pressure, darkness, chill, or currents. What he does mind is polluted waters, heavy metals or runoff chemicals, things from mining operations (which do drift toward his island thanks to the badlands on Tana nearby).
He can manipulate water to an extent, shaping it or balancing out currents nearby, so if he's got hatching fish or creatures to take care of, he can make sure they don't all drift away with the current. He can purify a small amount of water but generally he keeps others actively searching for any pollutants around the island. Vioq's main power, and the source of his income, is that he can not only create or alter but fully train sea animals. From smaller cephalopods up to the biggest sea dragons, he does a one-on-one training session that covers behaviors such as 'owner recognition' and 'threat determination', through patrol patterns and even some amount of Zekiran communication. He can train 'dumb animals', but prefers to work with smarter ones, since he knows they can actively comprehend what is needed. His power to alter the appearance of sea animals extends to 'the skin' or 'small limbs', he can change textures or coloration, but also to the same somewhat limited extent take the genes governing those items and permanently alter them to suit, so they will breed true. Additionally he can heal injuries or cause generalized damage, doing so to sea life mainly, and half effect on spliced Zekirans with sea animal traits.
While he was spliced from numerous long-lived Zekiran lines and added octopus genes in the city of K'vora on the mainland in Tana/Imaa, none of his land holdings are on the continent, and are all entirely on one fractured island about 250 miles off the coast from K'vora. Unlike many island Holdings, his does count 'the sea' and outright that sea hold is 2000 units. Adding to that massive amount of land, are several labs, an estate that is suited to both water and land living creatures, housing for the on-site staff or workers, and other such amenities like docks and warehouse areas. This of course means that by his Holdings he's automatically entered into Area and Land politics (Imaa, Tana) which he avoids like the plague. He would have to 'show up' to meetings if he was elected to anything, even a lower level office such as Pelatih Controller would mean he'd have to live on the mainland at least part time - and he cannot do that.
He has a handful of Bayaran, indentured servants who work the mainland offices that he shares with others, making sure that the island gets stocked up properly, ships go the right way around the island, and the like. His Budak, slaves, are almost all engineered to be suitable for life on an island or in the sea, and run jobs that any normal servant might - from handling cleanup duty to on-site deliveries, communication network use, and assisting in labs or hatcheries. Otherwise he has a larger staff of hired workers for structure maintenance, water testing, tourism handling, and other duties. He owns everything but their homes or small offices, even though they outnumber him by a vast amount...
Vioq has gotten into the dragon breeding Status only recently (This is a Zekiran Alternate Universe, not normally part of the main storyline) and serves with breeding and training the large Sea Dragons as well as his own specific take on smaller underwater guard creatures. A cruise ship might be attacked by the aliens in the open ocean, but with these guards and a large dragon to protect them that won't be happening on his watch. |
