Bonding at Kyanos Weyr (formerly Draco's Inferno)

Name: Dici

Gender: male

Age: 14

Description: light skinned, with vibrant red hair that's short and cropped, brown eyes; 5'5" tall with a skinny build

Personality: a bit clueless, a bit clumsy, but extremely endearing and nice

Family: Mother Shani Burns, father unknown; Acey cousin, via mothers

Acey and her cousin Dici are extremely pleased to stand as bonders - even if it's not in their native Paniya Isle. Though they are a bit different in personality and appearance, they are equally intense in their desire to bond and become riders. Note that this page used to be on caer_paniya_folk but since they are a Dawnlight citizen from Dawnlight parentage... I've moved them (2025)

Usually Dici would be left with young children because, well, he wasn't much good at tending the chickens. Or the goats. Not because he let them out or allowed another animal in their pen. More, because he was generally distracted enough that the chickens, goats and children would be lumped into one pen anyway.

But Dici was calm, he handled emergencies far better than anyone could expect. Plus, he followed instructions exactingly - not to the point of paranoia, but he definitely made sure that he followed the rules, double checking, and making extra certain before anything could proceed.

Though it took him a little longer than others to do things like math or complicated spelling tasks, he could read and write fairly well. And, he was artistic to boot. Not quite enough to get into a guild, but surely better than typical, and enough to keep half a dozen young children occupied as he drew their adventures on a sand table.

There was enough paper to go around - Paniya was full of trees, where Pern hadn't been- old habits die hard. Sand tables and the like were common in family rooms, in order to keep clutter to a minimum.

It was a bit of a surprise, then, that Dici had been searched by a local dragon rider. He claimed that the stable, calm personality that Dici showed would be of help in combat situations, and that his exacting nature would definitely allow him to learn flight patterns. Dici wasn't 'simpleminded', but he was unfettered by over-thinking things. That, the rider claimed, was something that a dragon could use. There was no point in complicating things where dragons were concerned.

So, he packed away what he needed - clothing, and a precious pad of pressed white paper with a stylus and ink - and readied for his ride.

A tandem of two metallic hatchlings started sniffing about the same sets of people, before stopping in front of Dici.  Where one of them, the copper, moved on to declare herself as Komaluth to a young Anari lady by the name of Ianthrya, the bronze stayed stopped in front of the red-head, and poked him politely and gently on the foot with a claw.  I pick you.  My name is Jiartath.

Dici was stunned, this dragon was so unlike even the exotic ones he'd seen flying around the Protectorate's isle, they were usually a bunch of specific colors and had little in the way of markings. Not at all like this one!

"I'm going to need to find colored pigments," Dici muttered, wiping tears of joy from his eyes, "I'll need to draw you right and proper!"

Dici and his beautiful, colorful dragon were not slated for combat. Even if that was why his Searchrider asserted, there was no need here for such things. Back on Pern perhaps. But now, the joy of simply being with a dragon like this was enough. And their duties would become obvious when there was need for other dragons and fighting off threats - this bronze could lift an entire class of children and fly to safety without any prompting.
