As the daughter of a pair of smithcrafters, Shyvex was expected to be strong and capable, like the stone itself. She has never disappointed in that regard. She is still a happy young woman, enjoying her time around both dragons and stone workers. As a sister, she enjoys both ribbing her brother, and competing with him - for almost everything, from the last biscuit at dinner, to making a perfect likeness of their grandparents' dragons in stone, to the girl bringing a basket of glows up the hall. But she would never let harm come to him, or any other in her family. Though who would be mad enough to try any guff with the Weyrleader's descendants? She does love getting gifts, particularly clothes. So a quick way to her heart or at least to her side during a festival dance, is to find a new pair of gloves, a scarf, cap, or other such goodies. She's rarely offended if someone brings her a piece that's too big or small, after all Auntie Alila can help fix that. One might think she's a bit on the vapid side just to watch her chatting or interacting with people her own age. But when she is in the presence of skillful crafts masters, dragonriders, or important dignitaries she's anything but bubbly. She will take orders from her father and mother, and those that they deem her 'boss' for the day - and no others. Shyvex is remarkably talented in her work with designs and floor plans, and tools or devices. She helped install and route the heating units that keep Outlook cozy, and truth be told they were originally designed because of something she'd said as a child - about how very cold the place was when they opened up the first of the exploratory caverns. Now, she is quite capable of fixing those units, discerning whether a location is good for a particular need (the right kind of stone, a good solid surface to work with, has no flaws or potential issues). She does leave most of the big lifting work to others, but she doesn't shy away from helping move or place flooring, wall units, and the like. Her gregarious nature seems to attract a lot of people, though her utter disregard for typical Holder expectations turn a few off as well. She is very much the bold and in-your-face girl who will stand up for someone who needs help, but sometimes does go a little far without being asked, bruising egos along the way. She is not fearless, she once fell from a dragon into the sea - her fault, she has long since admitted it and realizes why there are harnesses and safety features (and also why young children should not be taken without being absolutely strapped in...). This has caused her to be a bit leery of flights over the deep and churning ocean. But it's not really something she focuses on, since she's responsible for creating whole rooms and furnishings for people in the Weyr now, and that can cause her some sleepless nights. What if she's broken a tool? What if there are weak points she missed? Those fears are usually unfounded, she's not perfect at this work but she is very diligent and tackles projects carefully. Her rooms in the family's weyr are comfortable and stocked with all the gifts that she's been given, with dressers and cabinets simply filled to the brim with warm clothing, frilly fun hats and scarves (which she does not wear while working, oh goodness no), and blankets and pillows. Though she will wind up working in the stonecraft hall within the main Weyr, more than likely she will want to move up to Outlook herself should she impress a dragon. Since she did hint that crafters should have several locations to work, there are four large and mostly-unfilled halls fit for stone, woodcraft, jewlery making, metalsmithy, even glass crafts in the annex location. *** "We told you to be ready," S'xon called to the pair in their chambers, "we need to be there now..." "Yesterday, more like," his son S'vax muttered, "but still we could manage that..." "Don't even think about it," his father warned but both of them were seriously pondering the benefits of knowing how to 'time it' on their dragons. But they didn't need to worry, as Shyvex and her brother Tymax both emerged with their travel kits and a basket each for trade goods. "We're ready, we're ready," Shyvex said, a little jumpy. Her brother had set aside space and carry weight on their escort dragons, he was going to be bringing some supplies to work on goods and gemstones even while they were standing. Well, he'd probably be told not to do it all the time, they were still to be expected to do regular weyrling and candidate duties! They were both well used to such things, but it was true that they had been a bit spoiled. Their craftmaster rider parents, and their weyrleader grandparents? Of course they were going to allow these children a little straying from the normal behaviors. But still they were expecting to do well, the kids expected it of themselves, and everyone around them equally so. They would go to Aneris, where their cousin's lovely dragoness had laid many eggs with of all things a male gold? Novel, delightful! Who knew what might come of it, but for sure, they would be eager to see the results either way. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
