Name: Vernacia (vurn ah SEE ah) Gender/Pref: Female, gay Age: 19 when Judged Hair: auburn red, frizzy, in large waves down to her mid-back at longest, though she's tried cutting it short to suit her scribe-needs (all that hair needs to be tucked back or it gets all over the ink on her pages T_T) it just grows back thicker and wilder than ever Eyes: hazel green, almond shaped and sometimes squinting due to her profession, under concerned looking brows Appearance: light skin that tends to burn and peel in the sun, but she does so love the feel of warm sunlight! She is 5'5" tall, but doesn't look very short even though she is considerably smaller than most of the people around her, due to her slender and lean form. She holds herself with a good amount of grace, standing tall even if she's not physically tall, though she did go through an awkward teenage phase like everyone does, she got over it - consciously, she decided if her hands were as smooth on a paper with a stylus, she could weave through a Castle hall and courtroom with the same line! Family: mother is a scribe, father is part of the local non-riding guard; has two younger brothers, twins that are 10 years old, who are likely to both join the same guard faction once they're old and strong enough; in a relationship with Sita, a guard Aspirant At: Descas |
Skills: As a scribe, she went through school with more attention to detail than most, and inherently had already decided to keep notes about people, places, bugs she found, draks and their riders when they visited, and this all lent to her mother then electing to bring her to her own job as a court and castle recordskeeper. She has good penmanship but also enjoys putting a little style into her lettering, always legible but hardly ever boring to read. She has a very strong memory for details such as face appearances, voices, personality traits that show up in body motion, and jots those down quickly in a shorthand learned directly from her mother. But far from merely recording things as dull and dry as who lodged a complaint or how much that farmer is owed for his ruined shop stall, she prefers the animated accounts from onlookers, witness statements and even just standing aside feverishly writing down each move when a fight breaks out! She got a lot of practice with that when her brothers started mock-fighting, and even their father thinks she'd make for a good observer in the guard. Vernacia enjoys embroidered outfits as shown and has skills at embroidery as well as her scribing so she doodles and then may add those doodles to a project later, she's artistic enough that she could do virtually any creative job with ease, but knows that either a kind of 'reporter' duty, or the records-keeping scribe job she has now will be what pays for goods and gear in the household later. In her down time, however, she loves to play games, usually ones which involve making maps, rolling dice, having imaginary discussions, making up events, and the like - a typical nerdy board gamer! She can take a bad dice roll and turn it into a magnificent event, even if failed, to entertain her friends while they play! Personality: Though she outwardly seems quite happy with herself and is always willing to chat or take statements, doesn't shy away from interaction at all, when she's left to her own devices she does have a bit of a downcast feel. She doesn't like being alone, and feels isolated if not abandoned if she's got to do things for more than a day or two by herself without others to talk to or watch. This is likely due to her mother birthing the twins, which took her out of their home and into the infirmary for nearly a week, while Vernacia was left to tend the house herself. Though she's still proud of having been able to keep the place from burning down, and it was flawlessly tidy and set up when they all got back, it took her some time to regain her footing and she has always wanted to be near people since then. Background: Born in the busy Castle at Dun Keiba, with a small but important family. As the first born she was treated to some amount of spoiling, but then 9 years later (!) her twin brothers were born. They didn't exactly throw a wrench into the family overall, but like many children who assumed she'd be their only focal point forever, Vernacia slightly resented her brothers for taking her parents time and focus away for several years. It was clear to her mother that this was the case, and by the time Vernacia was about 12 the scribe had gone back to work and was willing to take Vernacia with her to keep her mind occupied, and to show her that she'd always be her beloved girl! With the trust brought back, Vernacia has endeavored to be a better role model to her brothers, though they are often rowdy and need to be snapped back to silence with the slam of a book on the table... She has proven herself however, to both sides of her family, in that when she watches the boys play-fighting, she can report to their father that one of them has a good stance, that the other has a capable defense - things which he'd talked about over the dinner table endlessly both before and after their birth. And while he did take her to his own job to observe and see what she'd do, she doesn't much care for the whole 'and then you stab it to death' thing. Not a fighter, she. However there... is one girl, a guard in training she first observed when she was 17 during a large training operation, that... Well. Sita is strong and capable and has that rugged beauty that no boy ever could have. Sita and she do have a relationship now, though with the guard being placed on duties that may bring her to other towns and villages, they aren't often able to sit down and have lunch let alone really spend that much time together. When they do have time, they both love playing those dice and board games, Vernacia loves it that Sita wanted to actually have her write down the rules and help with practice in the guard?! How fun! It was only when the local draks and their knights assembled some of the young people in the area for Judgement, that it was thrilling and a newly burning hope for Vernacia. She could be a drak rider? Probably not a 'knight', but her professional skills would be of so much use with draks as well as their caretakers! So now she's off to a place called DesCas, which - might - be a bit much on her delicate skin. But Sita helped her pack away some salves to ease any sunburns, and was thrilled to announce that she too would be going to a Castle at some point, Judged as well! ** (some from hatching by Trix) "You're going to love it, it's like... playing Mobs and Ninjas as a kid but with a better way than 'no you didn't yes I did' to resolve the results!" That was how she presented her prototype game. "You get to play as a Ninja, a Mob, or even as a Knight, and since there's three of us let's have one of each!" While it wasn't completely clear whether the other two young women would really concentrate on learning how the rules of this new game worked, what was clear was that the draklings were going to be presented. An urgent call went out and the trio made their way down to the cavern. There were four draklings, but... they'd been told there were only three eggs? At least it would never result in a disaster for that plus-one, right? Finally they were presented as a group, hardly afraid to start looking at the girls right after their dam announced their names. The plant-colored one went right for Allira. But then the winds - the twin-egg draklings - both focused on Vernacia and Nioi. As they made their choices both girls were quite thrilled. "I'm Zavymju," one said as she put her warm muzzle onto Vernacia's hand, "You ssmell sso good." "Oh! I wonder if you can smell the stylus and ink!" The mud male didn't pair, but maybe he would at some point. The girls were sent to their trainers after a while, and learned quickly how best to help their new partner. ** "And I think that we can work on printing more copies of it, since the records keepers are all wanting to try it too," Vernacia laughed. "You would think they would be sick of me by now..." The paper provider for the Castle's records room listened intently, but it was far more likely that was because he knew he could sell reams of his fine quality paper to this bunch of nerds. When they hashed out a deal for enough to print out another ten copies of Mobs and Ninjas rules, he left and Zavymju nudged her rider. "Did you want to sssee the hillss again?" Vernacia shook herself out of her mental daze as she calculated whether she had enough ink to press onto the pages, or if they'd also need more for it. The printing press was not unique to Dun Keiba's record chamber, but it was definitely going to get a lot of use. "I would, I need to clear my head and take in some fresh air!" "I ssstill like how you ssmell when you have been working on your gamess," the drak tossed her head, opened her four wings, and waited for the woman to mount up. "Now we mussst work on getting thosse boyss to bathe..." Vernacia's laughter could be heard from the ground as they flew up into the clear and bright skies. |
