Name: Whitley Page Gender: Male, pan Age/DOB: 18, aged, 2030? Origin: Repurposed Earth, born to mix-dimension parents Family: Mother Melissa, father Thomas Other: Unlike his father, Whitley is quite a bit more focused. Unlike his mother, he's also a bit more of a packrat Height: 6'1" Weight: 130* Icarus ... well, not a treatment, but certainly has had an effect on his build, weight, and physical aspects Hair: platinum blond, almost glowing golden, and seen in the right light it is highly reflective - note, it actually is metallic, like his nails Eyes: a gold shade, again highly reflective and metallic looking, usually behind glasses that 'hide' them from people staring at them, he does not need glasses for reading or other work, as his vision is exceptionally good Appearance: fair skinned, tans into a (you guessed it) metallic bronze, does not have scars or markings as they heal almost instantly, and he'd kind of like to get a tattoo or something, but that won't really work. He has a slightly rumpled look most of the time, and there is always stuff nearly bulging out of any pocket or bag he's got with him; generally sticks with the color scheme shown, though he can be convinced to put on darker jackets and spice up a little with colors; yes that little bit of stubble is what passes for a goatee, and he's not gonna shave it, nor will it get particularly much longer. Has a calm, smooth, and quite deep voice. Of note, he smells of cinnamon roasted almonds, hot of course. Icarus Processing: sort of. Because Melissa spliced him together, she had the opportunity to just use the stuff as a catalyzing agent and cellular support structure. Apparently this created a super-metallic zygote, growing into a lovely young man within a few years after her gestation. Melissa did carry him for at least 6 full months, after implantation, though she told people it was someone else's. This allowed the Vortal energies he had to solidify, but also for her to work up what exactly he might be able to do. The process of Icarus plating and chemical treatments was never necessary; like Melissa, Whitley produces Icarus in his bone marrow just as a normal person might make blood cells. It is organic, and has uses, below. In effect, it does boost his physical properties, and his Vortal power, both considerably. His durability is akin to Melissa's, he can heal from devistating wounds in tens of minutes, rather than never; he hardly tires, and rarely sleeps. He is about twice as strong as a normal man, though not any faster, however his eye for detail and in fact his physical senses are remarkably well tuned - he can see nearly six times as much detail, not requiring a microscope for instance, or a telescope. His sense of touch is around four times stronger than a normal person, generally on his fingers and balance. Also while he does need to consume something now and then, he can sustain himself using Vortal energy, Antlion larva, or raw electricity. Under extreme conditions, and with enough materials on hand, Whitley can change his entire physical structure to a metallic one - meaning that there are a couple other people that now his mom wants to splice him with... |

Genetic Abilities: gifted with a strong but short range Vortal suite of telepathy, empathy, and vortal aura sensing, Whitley is also very good at communicating with machines, computers, and non-organic life forms such as you'd find on Xen or in other dimensions. Among all the Vortal kids, Whitley can back up any claim made about those Xenian crystals that are sometimes used by Keenan as tracking devices. They're not smart but they are alive. Whitley is an incredibly good programmer and mechanic, tinker, inventor, like his father. But more than that, he can manipulate any computer - Combine, Xenian, Keenan's private constructs, they all are like open and easily read books to him. This is generally a shorter ranged power, best with touch, but he can do it to anything he can see under normal vision (so, around 200 meters at most). He can cause a burst of Vortal-electric energy that will short out or completely destroy machinery and computers, and disrupt any living creature's nervous system briefly and painfully, but he doesn't care to do that as it will drain him and he'll need sleep and sleep is for the weak. He can manipulate metals, creating alloys and amalgams with ease particularly if the metals are already warmed up, and shape those metals into both hefty and nanoscopic usefulness. While he's among the more powerful of the metal shapers in the Rookery, however, he doesn't tend to hang with the others, because he more concentrates on invention and fiddling with things, rather than with the big reinforcements and repair work. They leave him to it, because generally speaking he'd put too much detail on their 'must be plain' walls. If a thing is metal in any form, he can reshape it, move it, telekinetically lift it (within about 10 meters, and only as much as he could bench press) or turn it into some other kind of metal. Like his father, he's extremely adept with taking pieces of one item and grafting them onto another - not himself, thanks, he likes being flesh and blood - even if that blood is really iron-filled. He does tend to become magnetized, and often enough gives off static shocks to those who brush up against him. He thinks this is hysterical. Melissa is glad though, that he can also take very specific information and put it into use: she has had him create ultra-specific Icarus molecules, which she can then use for aiding other splices and for their newest batch of treatment patients. In fact, it's possible that he will be able to help work up a 'cure' for those negative genetic markers which have been stumbling blocks in the past, for application to otherwise unlucky participants.
Skills or Profession: Inventor, tinker, repair man, generally working on technology and computers, but also quite good with overall engineering, maths, molecular and inorganic chemistry, though he's less adept with biological subjects and likes sticking to the metallic ones. Sometimes literally. He's an avid reader, and picks up snippets of information for later use, don't play trivia games with him, he knows a surprising amount. Navigation and pathing are also something of an odd specialty for him, though he claims it's because he is used to circuit boards and number crunching, rather than because he's got any kind of skill download in it - which he does, but hasn't had to use. Mechanical devices are his peak interest, including semi-organic ones - this has caused some folks a bit of panic and ire, because he wants to observe the Combine processing. On the Rookery, this might still be possible but incredibly dangerous, on Repurposed Earth all their production lines have long since been disabled and broken down.
Personality: On the more intense side of serious, but he is actually quite relaxed around friends. He will seemingly brush people off if he doesn't know them, or if they seem to not understand what's going on around them. But he isn't arrogant in that regard, he's not going to seek out people and snub them, and he doesn't verbally or emotionally abuse anyone. He, like his father, can occasionally be 'casually dangerous' physically however, what with the penchant for working on live electric equipment without telling someone to use insulation, or just shaking hands without discharging that static electricity around him. He does have a sense of humor, more in that he finds some things incredibly funny, in addition to any normal 'joke and prank' type humor. He's intrigued by tools and their uses, though a little horrified by some of the things that he's found in ruins - or in Rapture. He knows that he could stick a spare mechanical part into his own body like his dad does, but he knows better than to think anyone else should!
Events or History: An oddity, because Melissa is not really one to pick up on someone like Thomas - overtly and subconsciously she's a bit scared of him. But looking at his DNA was something else entirely. Whitley knows that he exists because Mom Is Weird That Way. But down in Rapture or up in the ice, or over at the Mesa, even in the crushing salt mine of the Testing Spheres, Whitley has found his stride in picking up where other people left off. While it's one thing to say that, say, Gordon Freeman as a child could 'turn a toaster into a howitzer', and be joking... Whitley actually can. Well it would take a few more than one toaster, but still! Experiments sitting around will get finished, one way or another. His dorms in various locations are absolutely packed with stuff, machinery and devices, parts, wiring, keyboards, vacuum tubes, whatever. He'll get around to using them. Yes, he has a dorm in basically any location that has technology in it, which is to say 'all of them': though he's been shooed away from the Mansion attic there's still a bunch of stuff there he occasionally picks through; his home in Rapture is the most common place you'd find him; he has a spot in the Rookery nearest the machine shops; the Borealis sports a lab and part of it is his; and North Aperture definitely has a trail of Whitley's 'stuff' in each Sphere he's visited. He has visited Xen on numerous occasions and does have pockets of hidden crap just waiting to be remembered. He 'homes' in Rapture, however. |
