At the far, far end of the 'cruel, crazy, dangerous' spectrum among the children of the Clonegirls, is Valeria. Lavender always liked experimenting and exploration of her skills. Virus... he offered her something she hardly dreamed about: a lab and the permission to use it. Once there, it was a very short skip to 'having offspring with the most gorgeous semi-human in the area', that is to say Virus didn't have to suggest it. Oddly, though Lavender was a bit worried, Ihrinnah didn't seem to think this was in any way a bad thing, or intrusive. After all she had her own whole groups of children with the immortal Virus. Valeria takes after her father in almost every way save the color of hair and her willowy build. But her eyes are red, her smile calculated, and her skills... well, they're definitely all about bodies. Valeria has almost never seen anyone as a person, aside from 'after she's worked on them'. Thus her experiences in school at Carramba have left her a little annoyed. No, she's not allowed to just cut people open there. Not even when they ask her to do it. They have to sign waivers first. If and when the future really opens up for the cousins, children of the Clonegirls, Valeria will still remain wherever there is technology available. Though truth be told, she doesn't need much to actually do a workable bunch of medicine. Even if she happens to cause a bit of pain in the process, her Vortal skills can either 'fix' it, or allow the patient to forget about it. Among all the cousins, Valeria seems to be able to reconstruct her own body at will, in different locations - teleportation only of her Vortessence, her lih moves and builds itself a new kallah. Vortikind is wary of her, but not to the extent that they'd exclude her from learning new tricks from them. She might have a few things to teach them in the long run. Her 'superbish' grade in Lane's class is mostly due to him being a bit grossed out by the process and he tries not to test her on it all that often because people in the class wind up vomiting on arrival... *** Virus wasn't the only one to notice that Valeria seemed a touch... lonely. Ihrinnah had watched the girl putter around in her 'husband's' lab, and realized what was missing. That banter between minds, not telepathy with another person, but with a deeper bond. She needed a dragon. While plenty of them were still around Carramba, there were others at home in their former-medical-center that could suit the needs of this lovely girl nicely. It was her father's Henshuth that instigated a proper mating flight with the glowing, dangerous Strychnine, but it was Ihrinnah who thought it would be proper to 'make something of them'. The eggs from that nest proved to be quite 'fun' to manipulate genetically. Several of them died in the process, but even the parents of those eggs admitted it was for the best. Only their finest should live to see the light of day or the sparkle of stars. Valeria watched all this with interest. When the hatchlings broke free from their soft shelled eggs, it was with a weird sound that could almost be described as sickening. They shlorped out and onto the soft mossy ground - they'd been moved to the edge of one of the stagnant ponds in anticipation of hatching, rather than have them in the sterility of the labs. Turned out that was just perfect for the one brightly contrasting hatchling. Ihrinnah noted this one as male, though it was almost impossible to tell by just looking at any of them what their gender would be. Since they were translucent, growing bones visible - slightly glowing, just like their mother's - but their flesh wasn't ghostly like hers. It was very solid, just ... see-through. "Oh he is wonderful," Valeria said. She didn't hesitate, even when she touched the wet creature's soggy skin. It wasn't soggy because of the pond scum, it wasn't even moist from just the inside of the shell. It was because this dramatically colored hatchling was actually dripping. "We'll have to make sure you're always near a good source of liquid," Valeria commented. "Can't have you drying out, now." The hatchling burbled, odd eye sockets seemingly not yet filled with actual eyes. In fact, the dragon's whole body might be said to be vitreus in quality. "Can they see?" One of Valeria's many cousins asked, peering over the nearby fence. "It doesn't have eyes, really?" "He can see just fine," Valeria assured him. "Pumilio is his name. Just like the frog." She rubbed the dragonet's wrinkly neck, he stood up unsteadily, and would be a short-legged dragon - perhaps short winged too, by the looks of it. That was fine. She could move him where they needed to be. *** In time, this dragon would lurk in the festering toxin-filled pools left just outside the Rookery's perimeter. With defense in mind of course... Not just that the presence of any of these extremely dangerous children of Virus was kept to a minimum... right? |
