The Checkerboard Ball had been whispered about by some of the other instructors, and Shelby was right there whispering. Was it going to be open to just anyone around? How could someone get an invite? Did they go out by magic? Of course they did, didn't they? It was being held 'where'?
Keenan and his cohorts... or maybe his other time-displaced selves, watched this man as he all but rubbed his hands together like a greedy king with a pile of gold - but Shelby wasn't greedy, he was giddy. That was because he'd just 'discovered' the black and white card inviting him to the Ball. He would find his way there along with numerous others from Carramba and its surroundings, everyone would make sure that each of their students or invitees were accounted for during and after that party. With or without any other bits that might come back with them!
In Shelby's case, it would be not just a dragon but a lovely little Ferilon, Chardonnay would become his name.
