Nidus Avengaea Copper Minifrenzy (need a link) **2023 note that this used to be on 2 pages, is now on one** |
Character: Eedra Eedra is 42 years old, equating to around 20-21 in human years. She was raised by her mother in the Aichi village of Kthunn, which borders a huge mountain range, and on the north side lay the most prominant city ruins -- and therefore the most prominant human colony -- on the planet. At age 15 she met her first human, an Imperial soldier out to guard one of the archaelogists groups in the ruins. She wasnt impressed. She was not impressed either with the tribes superstition regarding the ruins. Soon she had learned Basic in its unaltered form (normally she speaks a slurring mix of Basic and her tribes gruff dialect, she may be hard to understand if shes excited), and seen any real technology for the first time. Most of her tribe members, the elders at least, had encountered one or both of the Imperial colonists or the Rebel people (on the other side of the mountain), and had fervently instructed all their offspring to keep well away from them. She of course ignored them. At around age 20, Eedra understood that she was not going to be one of the rare fertile Apthi females. (Only one in four females, since they are cross-breeds, are able to mix with other Apthi.) It was decided that she could start her education as a scout, warrior and protector of the tribe, since she had already sprouted to her full height. She is taller than most of her tribemates, and all of the Apthi females she knows. (Side note: Apthi as a subrace gather rarely. Depending on the sex of the individual they are tended by their same-sex parents tribe, unless something really strange is going on. Eedra was raised with the notion that she was Aichi, but she knew better.) Her training was quick and complete, she learned skills of survival, climbing with the aid of her wings on the descent, and the weaving, dancing Kthari martial arts. She became one of the best in her tribe at this. At age 26, she left her tribe to investigate the Rebel forces camps. She had long heard from the Imperials that they were all such-and-such losers, lazy, boring, underfed, etc, etc. She rather believes this, even now. Still her loyalties sit with her homeworld, but she is rarely able to make up her mind if the Imperial stories shes heard about (of torture, theft and pillaging of planets, wholesale destruction... ) are true or what, or that the Rebels are all that. She reserves judgement, and simply wants to do her job. At around age 35, she was taken aboard her first star ship. She became a basket case. Until they reached their destination -- the fourth moon of Mahar some 25 minutes later -- she was crouched in her corner, her wings collapsed above her head, and moaning slightly. She has not gotten over this. Its the easiest thing just to give her whatever sedatives are handiest and knock her out for the duration of any lengthy trips, than to put up with the shaking, trembling and fearful noises. She will not become violent in this condition, she just cannot be communicated with to any extent. At 38 years of age, she had left her home system for the first time,
and visited one of the Imperial worlds. There, she was treated to the
finest forms of non-human prejudices, and she treated them to her eye-gouging
gut-opening martial arts techniques. It was then that she spent her
first time in an Imperial prison, for three years. Eedras goals are simple. Find a boss. Protect them. Its what she was trained for, on her homeworld, its what she does best. She preferrs not to get involved with politics, but still has a slight bias toward the Imperial side, simply because theyre better prepared and better dressed. Organization and following the set rules seem to be more important to her than much of her tribe, but shes always been odd. She respects authority but that authority can be seen down the muzzle of a blaster. Eedra does not seek a mate, but there are times -- about every three months -- when she becomes nearly unbearable to her crewmates. Overfriendly Kthari -- eesh, what a concept. Eedra keeps her outlook open, in matters of life and death, shell choose life, and try to take as many people with her that way as possible, but if things are too confusing -- a decision of politics or subtlty -- shell let whoever seems most knowledgable about it make her mind up and go with their decision as long as it doesnt endanger her directly or immediately.

Eedra knew that she wanted in on this dragon thing. She'd hung out with her friends on their ship, enjoying a mess of bounty each time they'd land on a world. After all, she got to play the heavy, she got to be the monster. Some of these worlds had barely got galactic contact, let alone be part of the bigger picture, so if they knew nothing about the Kthari out there, fine. It was a great little scam, really. They would scout out a planet with a small population, one which didn't have much contact or Imperial interferance (nor Alliance interferance, for that matter, neither were particularly fond of scammers like them). They'd stumble into town - the humans and captain (who was a Chiss, with blue skin and those lovely eyes...) and start rumors. A ship had been seen out here, carrying a load of illegal monsters! Have you seen it? Or - playing on local fears of wildlife, that was even better. Because Eedra didn't have to wait until the guys gave the signal, to start causing havoc. But what she liked most was to threaten authority figures until they peed themselves. She thought that was just about the most fun she could have. It made up for the time in hyperspace, at any rate. They would then 'capture' her, sometimes even have her play dead. They'd had a number of props made up by the time they'd done this on a few more worlds. Eventually they had to stop, because there were only a certain number of worlds that they could exploit like this. They stopped entirely dealing with some worlds, and had to make sure that there were no Hutts around where they landed. Those Hutts were monumental jerks, according to Eedra. Not nearly as big of jerks as those pirates they'd first encountered, but then again those guys didn't get very far after the team brought back what they'd found for them. A matched pair of - live - Maharian Arboreal Tigers. You know, the kind that sneak around nearly invisible and could spring off any surface to break their prey's back? Yeah, them. Eedra figured the scars she'd gotten from them (you can see them on her shoulder) were worth it. They took the pirate's ship, everything on it incluing the navigation comp, and kind of retired back on Mahar. Well, Eedra retired back on the 3rd moon, but the guys came and went. They were restless, and Eedra just wanted to stop getting space sick. So her ship posed as a kind of gigantic mobile home, and few people came to visit. Those ridiculous superstitions again. Well, when Karen came along, everything in Eedra's past was all but forgotten. It was all new, this dragon stuff. It looked like a few people were going to head away to some world, but Eedra figured that she'd wait around for another go. Maybe to a more specific place. Shortly, she was rewarded. Karen came back frequently, informing the group of Kthari about flights, nests and dragons in need of partners. Eventually one came up that Eedra didn't want to miss. This 'copper minifrenzy' thing sounded cool, sounded like she could score herself some companionship and enjoy her territory without worrying about guarding it all by herself. If it worked out, she'd be able to visit her friends on their own retirement worlds - wouldn't that be crazy? She could go - alone - without a ship. Chuckling to herself she signed on to the Nidus visit, knowing this was just going to be a blast... |
And a blast it was! For Eedra didn't have to worry about hyperspace, she enjoyed sitting on a large dragon's back behind Karen (who had like, four dragons? amazing!) and teleporting to this new place. The stars were quite different, the planet was not really off limits but Eedra wasn't going to be traveling around it much. The eggs' hatchlings and liveborn kits were parading around looking for friends to take them home. The first that strolled up to Eedra to look her over was a dark colored male with lightning stripe markings on his armored tail and lovely white fur on his back. He looked like he could handle a lot! "Aithaet," he announced himself. "Hungry! Come on, where's the food?" "It's... over there! Come on, we'll get you something to munch on. Aithaet is it? Neat." Eedra felt good about this pairing. She felt the strong mind of this young dragon situate itself in hers. Then... Not too much longer, they both felt something invade their mental territory. A boisterous mind, curious, and shortly a copper-gold shaded nose butted into Eedra's hand. "Hey, what'cha doing? Can I do it? Of course I can! And better than you," he said peering at the smaller Aithaet. "Oh is that so?" Aithaet muttered, picking at the last of his food, "why do you think that? Just because you're bigger than me?" "Of course! Well, and smarter too." That almost started a fight between the pair, but Eedra took all four of her arms and split the boys up. "Oh I can tell you two are going to be a handfull," she muttered. ** Next! ** |
Name: Aithaet Name: Trigger |
Karen arrived around the time that Trigger was trying to learn to fly. Aithaet would never fly, of course, because he lacked wings - however he did have the same innate ability to teleport that his companion did. That was perhaps their one point of equity, for they each had slightly different abilities to do and out-do with one another. When Aithaet learned that he could shapeshift into humanoid versions, it was an endless stream of 'I can do better'. Comparing apples to oranges - flight or shapeshifting, which was better! Come on Eedra they begged, tell us who's better! They were so different that Eedra had to keep telling them to just sort it out between themselves, because she could hardly 'decide'. They were like kids, of course they were still kids. Aithaet began developing a nose for metals, at about the same time that Trigger found an aptness to breathe fire. Karen hinted that they might be very good to encourage a bit of cooperation - there were minable metals where Eedra lived, weren't there? And so... Eedra and the dragons started practicing. Trigger would go into a cave and start moving things around. When Aithaet sensed something important he'd draw it out. Eedra collected the raw ores and then among the three of them they refined it using Trigger's control over fire. He could heat up almost anything, at least for a short time, and in that time too, Aithaet learned how to heal Eedra (and himself) when there were mishaps with the molten ores. Eedra was more than strong enough to do 'blacksmith' work, her first works involved sharp pointy things, and eventually got it down to more of an art than just a job. It was when the dragons were fully grown that they all went off to visit Eedra's friends, laden with goods that she just knew were better to trade than the simple animal skulls and cast off rings or bits from other people's visits to her home! They hardly slowed down, moving from one spot to another using navicomp instructions that the dragons were able to interpret. Would they become rich? Well known? Perhaps. But they rarely slowed down... Coming home only long enough to burrow through another tunnel and brew up a batch more of trade goods. |
