Karen arrived around the time that Trigger was trying to learn to fly. Aithaet would never fly, of course, because he lacked wings - however he did have the same innate ability to teleport that his companion did. That was perhaps their one point of equity, for they each had slightly different abilities to do and out-do with one another.

When Aithaet learned that he could shapeshift into humanoid versions, it was an endless stream of 'I can do better'. Comparing apples to oranges - flight or shapeshifting, which was better! Come on Eedra they begged, tell us who's better!

They were so different that Eedra had to keep telling them to just sort it out between themselves, because she could hardly 'decide'. They were like kids, of course they were still kids. Aithaet began developing a nose for metals, at about the same time that Trigger found an aptness to breathe fire.

Karen hinted that they might be very good to encourage a bit of cooperation - there were minable metals where Eedra lived, weren't there?

And so... Eedra and the dragons started practicing. Trigger would go into a cave and start moving things around. When Aithaet sensed something important he'd draw it out. Eedra collected the raw ores and then among the three of them they refined it using Trigger's control over fire. He could heat up almost anything, at least for a short time, and in that time too, Aithaet learned how to heal Eedra (and himself) when there were mishaps with the molten ores.

Eedra was more than strong enough to do 'blacksmith' work, her first works involved sharp pointy things, and eventually got it down to more of an art than just a job.

It was when the dragons were fully grown that they all went off to visit Eedra's friends, laden with goods that she just knew were better to trade than the simple animal skulls and cast off rings or bits from other people's visits to her home!

They hardly slowed down, moving from one spot to another using navicomp instructions that the dragons were able to interpret. Would they become rich? Well known? Perhaps. But they rarely slowed down... Coming home only long enough to burrow through another tunnel and brew up a batch more of trade goods.
