In this Fifth Matrix, certain things are quite different from the Matrix worlds of the future. Many programs exist in different formats than they will in the 6th Matrix - that of Neo, Trinity and Morpheus.

Many programs will seek out an anomaly for entertainment purposes - if they can locate where the Anomaly's pod is in the power plant, they can access the mental energy directly. Thus, some programs actually harbor anomalies to harvest their own private stock of energy. Feeding like vampires on the mind - yet at the same time cultivating a powerful super-human within the Matrix.

Those outside the Matrix, those who have been 'rescued', will never be looked upon kindly by those same programs. Why waste all that precious energy?

Zion exists and is relatively well protected at this time. Its location is nearer the surface than implied in the movies. (Besides the fact that the core of the earth is molten up to only a few miles below the surface, the tremendous pressure going too far underground would kill anything the size of a human being - so let's just say science actually works.) Zion's population is around 80 thousand at this time, and it has taken nearly 120 years to reach this point. (Yes, the Matrix is older than you think.) Thus it is possible to have a 5th or 6th generation Zionite - with no plugs and therefore one who cannot ever enter the Matrix. They may observe it with the code-readers available, but they cannot enter it nor be plugged in after 12 years of age. Zionites older than this are considered 'meat', i.e.: they are always terminated. If a Sentinel encounters a child Zionite, they will be captured and placed into the Matrix power plant.

Certain characters from the movies will never be met in this 5th Matrix. Obviously, any Zionite - including Morpheus (but with a special consideration, see below) - who has been portrayed in the films must not appear in the 5th Matrix. Programs that we know are, by implication or by having stated straight out, rogue, are likely to exist in the 5th Matrix.

Persephone and Merovingian are still in love. Their body guards of course exist, however the Twins do not - they are a recent creation. The Keymaker is still missing, but might be 'around'. The Oracle of course exists purely to assist the Anomalies - but her motives may be in question. Seraph guards the Oracle and is awesome cool. Regarding Morpheus - there is some speculation that he too is a program inserted into a human body somehow, and then moved out to Zion. If this program does exist, Morpheus might be extremely important: but he will never be seen unless conditions warrant it.

Any given Agent does exist. Smith is and will always be an Agent in this Matrix. Other Agents may go rogue, however.

The Architect exists and is watching everything. More than you know... He is waiting to see how this all plays out. Whether allowing rogue programs to harvest their own personal anomaly power is a wise idea or not? Perhaps they are all very bored and want to see just what Mankind can do.
