Weird Wine and Dine / cultivates fruits, veggies, grasses, grapes and other items for wine, but also provides insect-based diet needs, given he's from the premier insect-spliced family in the world (both insectivores and has-insect-mouth-parts dietary needs) / 47kc |
Powers |
Genetic Purity
Power Rank |

|
Minor |
Added Sense / Strong Senses - Antennae provide vibration senses and serve double duty to 'smell' since he lacks a nose, picks up quite a bit of high frequency sound (bug buzzing) and can sort out voices and lower frequencies with 'ears' (which he also lacks externally)
Color and Texture Shifting Skin - surface appearance only, those tiny pips of red on his otherwise beige-tan armored skin can change shape and texture, so he can appear nearly fully red (like his sister) or with large lumpy bits. He's not getting bitten, promise. His hair is always somewhat sparkly red-glittered white |
Major |
Local Air Current Control / Pitch and Sound Imitation - though his voice is soft and somewhat hesitant he can aid it with his power, or sound very spooky as a vibration or fluttering of thousands of little bugs. Since he has highly sensitive antennae he can match a pitch or sound eerily well. He can move a reasonable volume of air in a gentle breeze, up to a narrow meter-wide blast of gale-force air for about 100 meters. Usually keeps this power up for short periods to coax bugs either to or away from plants
^Sense / Summon / Command Tiny Bugs - creatures smaller than dragonflies (down to noseeum size) mainly using his pheromone and plant scent mixtures, he does not have psionics guiding them, but has learned how to emulate or formulate their airborne signals, as well as just carrying them on the wind he makes |
Special |
^Plant Control / Flowering only - if it blooms, even tiny flowers, his power works on it. He can cause plants to bloom out of season or even 'real time' nearby, withering, or producing unusual effects such as toxins or medicinal saps, he has several generational projects for this at the Yilden complex. Some of these are quite dangerous, but then life is dangerous isn't it? (You get like this when your mother is an exotic dancer mantis woman...)
^Pheromone Production / Particulate Manipulation - while he cannot properly manipulate tiny particles of 'just anything', if it came off of either himself (or his sister) or a plant, or insects have let it loose, he can sense it, analyze it quickly (maybe he's 'tasting it'?) and is able to reproduce it and spray that stuff with a wave of several hands. He uses this power in conjunction with others |
Combination^ |
Bug Command Scents - like moths to a flame, Darxa is able to command small bugs. He makes sure to have the right bugs at the right plants, and can simply draw them away from fields or people just by 'dangling a shiny scent' they are attracted to. This does work on insect-spliced people, he knows because he can test it on family members all the time... |
Physical Mutations / Social Disadvantages |
Mutations |
^Smelly - he does give off a strange smell though it's not always a nasty one. It depends on his mood or his current level of exhaustion, it ranges from pine needles to sickly rotten fruit
Dragonfly Mutation Suite, a Major level suite with Special large wings, bred by the Yilden group whose work has gone three generations now and shows no sign of stopping!
- armored skin, feels thickly padded and resistant, provides 8 points of damage resistance versus cutting and impale, and mitigates any negative modifiers for movement or skill use in cold or water (he would still take damage from those elements if injured); adds BT
- long slender tail, it's not prehensile but it does allow him to turn, balance, and fly in tight quarters without crashing into things, adds BT
- two extra arms, unlike many in the Yilden family he has the normal amount of fingers (and toes though not shown on picture)
and as such he can manipulate many items at once, adding Manual Dexterity and BT
- full flighted insect wings, these plus his air control allow him to lift off and fly around with ease, though if he didn't have the air power they would likely only work for gliding; add 50% BT to final
- modified head / features - no external ears, no nose - his sense of hearing in a normal sense is quite poor but still present, and his sense of smell (and likely taste) are diverted to the antennae
- antennae as above, they are fairly mobile but aren't used for expressions
- faceted eyes - he is able to detect motion quite easily with these large eyes, yes even if his hair is in front of them
- diet is exclusively bugs and fruit-based, he cannot digest meat or other substances which is why he concentrates on flowering plants
- fertility is strong with insect types, lesser with non-mutated or otherwise normal people
|
Disadvantages |
Incurs -4 Sanity twice on meeting, but don't watch him eating: though he doesn't have the strangest mouth parts of the family his chewing is a little gross too...
Is rude and snarky, sarcastic as a norm, and some people get the wrong impression from him because of this |

Do note that while he creates food, he neither prepares it in the restaurants nor serves it himself, unless he's actively working on a new dish or formula. He will try out a good number of things at the Yilden Hive before moving them into bigger production, and assigns appropriate groups to help harvest, prepare, and serve locally. He actually hires a very large number of Kaumburuh to work in the kitchens and in the winery, though many employees of the winery at the Yilden Hive are Budak and Bayaran belonging to his extended family there. He doesn't care who is doing it, as long as it gets done right.
He'd noticed that some of those family members with the... odder looking facial features and strict diets required some privacy when they were eating. And noting also that his father wasn't born to this family, so there are definitely people out in the greater world with needs like theirs... He found his niche and has begun claiming it in earnest.
While he is 'charming enough' to let the occasional insult to an Atasan or Penjagan pass as a 'joke', he can be considered a food snob and displays a more abrupt personality if something is going wrong or didn't work the way he wanted it to. He is a perfectionist, and rather demanding. But he still delights in explaining to 'regular people' that his restaurants and particularly his foods are not intended for the 'uncultured and unBred palate' ... if you don't have things that can be called 'mouth-parts' by your Peridian, don't bother trying to order in his company...
His food consists of a lot of interesting items from flowering plants petals, to grains that aren't typically eaten, and definitely the bugs that sometimes reside on those plants. All put together into a very wide variety of plated looks: some look just like a normal salad and could easily pass as one. Others are smoothies but they literally are bug paste. He does stress to the restaurant servers that the idea is to make sure that these customers are given the right textures: if they ask for live crickets and shell-crackers (those are insects...) then that's what they will be served. If they require a bowl with runny liquid moth-mash, there it is, do you want a spoon or a straw, no? you can use your proboscis if you want. A good number of animal spliced people seem to think that his food service should catch on more strongly - where else could a baggy-anteater splice find a literal bottle of ants for lunch?
He does feel like his hard work is paying off, when he sees groups of insect-spliced folks sitting and just enjoying themselves as normal non-mutated families might while on the town. He knows as they all do, the way that people stare or even faint at the sight of 'those' kinds of slurping and eating habits. If he can help normalize their ability to go out and enjoy themselves, so much the better. And contrary to a haughtier type of culinary master, if someone actively complains about the food, while he will be fuming about it, he will also make sure to take notes about why, and if enough of those notes match up around the world, change his formula accordingly. But it's rare that he must do so; more often it's that any given 'not this type' of food critic will show up thinking that the croutons on the salad shouldn't be leaping out of the bowl... The 'habitat' locations are often open air, but have a large enclosed garden spot or greenhouse for climate controlled needs. Any of the insects that feed off of the commonly found foods he serves will have a home there, often in 'farms' such as ant-farms would look. Since his whole family is basically able to sense and control insects to some degree, there is almost never a time when these bugs would 'get loose' - they would simply be urged back to their rightful section of the Hive grounds by whatever cousin or half-sibling is on hand. Where there are gardens there are often tours that move through them, and he has a thriving flower business that basically helps several siblings when they need higher volume of exotic looking plants for their customers. He doesn't specifically sell them as such, and they don't get the 'food' variety as he's been breeding those plants for their nutritional value. |

"Well you're a little scowly one aren't you," Darxa chuckled. "You remind me of me."
The dragon... creature glared up at him with red eyes and gracelessly drooled onto the tile floor, and that drool began to eat into the tile. If he had eyebrows, Darxa's would have risen in slightly-annoyed surprise. The dots over those faceted eyes however scrunched together for the proper effect.
"We'll... have to get on a bit of venom control training, I think."
"At least it's the little one," his sister commented, "I'm looking forward to figuring out how best to give these their privacy and shoo prey at them." If any of these dragonets were 'infants' they were already all at least as long as the Zekirans were tall, and in the one case, as tall at the elbow as they were at the head... It would indeed be challenging.
He, and I am not little, not for long. The moss shouldered hydra (they didn't honestly know what a hydra was, nor would it be apparent since all of these plant-hybrids only had the one head) shook his rose-petaled mane and then was about as high at the shoulder as his sponsor's chest.
Just like that.
And yet, for all the spittle and bluster, it was very clear that Gehoggood was enjoying his time adjusting to his new life among these odd tall and colorful people. Even if they did have a penchant for making his moss itch, their weird powers could certainly change his appearance or metabolism, but they both knew how to let the hybrids lounge in just the right place under the sun to recharge.
They did have fun at large outdoor restaurant parties. Darxa hinted that if Gehoggood pretended to be a 'pet' he'd get plenty of attention if he wanted it, and could (carefully) hiss and spit as needed, even to customers. After all, they could be pests, and the Yilden family was quite good at pest control. So they would prowl around, the appreciative oohs and ahhs the hydra got bloated his ego quite a bit. There were visitors with pets, real pets, and only one of them needed to be eaten.
Darxa did have to reimburse the Pemilik for his loss, of course, but it was worth it. |

Dragon |
Name: Gehoggood Selamputo (geh OGG ood, spines AND teeth)
Gender: male
Size/Shoulder/Length: varies, typically 4'6" shoulder, can be 3'6" or so, and reach 8' shoulder with concentration, the smallest sizes equitable to a large ferilon
Colors: body light creamy tan with slightly redder mottling; main moss foresty greens, mane petals dark and rich ruby reds; spines and tail spikes lighter green, with dark green on foreleg elbows; bright white claws and teeth, horns, and jaw spikes; red eyed
Features: Plant Hybrid Hydra, as shown; biologically they appear to be around 75% plant and a bit of dragon otherwise, their skin and presumably other parts can photosynthesize; various relatives have different fringe and features
Powers: Telepathy, thankfully this hybrid is not given to verbal speech, and if he was, you'd know it because you'd get an earfull. Also he'd probably spit while speaking. He does tend to hiss a lot, and is quite vocal, just not with words exactly
Acid Breath Weapon, he doesn't use it as a weapon except if something is really threatening him, however this acid can dissolve porcelain and possibly metal so just steer clear of it
Size Shifting, the thing he loves to do and does it quite well. Though he cannot top out bigger than even the middle-sized of their companions, he can blend in with the surroundings as a small bush or pile of leaves, and then be as big as a hedge penning someone in if they're annoying, and possibly be a thorny whirlwind of doom
Parentage: Kor'yaune Selamputo, Moss Hydra; Lacrichi, Rose Plant Dragon; Nalpick, Cactus Plant Dragon; Twishar, Vine Plant Dragon
Origin: Derivativeworks art by Phe
Other Info: If Gehoggood is jealous or envies his companions abilities, he hasn't yet shown it. To them, anyway. They still make a good team if they're out hunting, and because he is the smallest on average, he can root out prey and let his group grab them on the run |
