Epsilon 14 turns old at Impression, male, weyrbrat Apprentice Dragonhealer Son of Brown rider E'rikk (on Entlath) and Gold rider Ilion (on Pestath), fostered like most of his siblings in the weyr at Blackstone. Born last in a family of four boys and five girls, Epsilon carries on the tradition of his parents and older siblings of dyeing his hair black and colored, a tradition common to Blackstone Weyr. He is the only single-birth of the family, his twin was stillborn. Epsilon has fair skin and a boyish face, with black and yellow hair done 'shaved' on the sides like all his family. His big blue eyes are always mirrored in his clothing. He wants to impress well, hoping to ride in the same wing as his father before him. All he knows is about dragons. He has a good eye for injuries and illnesses common to dragons, as well as rare curative potions and such. If Epsilon impresses his name will be Eps'on, and he wishes to Impress bronze or brown, but more likely for his craft a Blue would suit him best. (As well as nicely matching his clothing!) Epsilon was in the stands at Sapphire weyr, like others to see if there were any injuries. His experience in dragon healing definitely got a work out after this hatching, as there was one small dragon who tore his wing terribly! But, there were more experienced healers there to immediately take care of that one. It was while he and others watched, a huge long hatching, that something very odd happened. Though he'd been on the sands to help clear away any shards or sharp bits, he thought he'd felt something. Deep inside him. This was much earlier in the day, however. And now, late in the evening when nearly everyone had tried to settle in, the hatching had started. He'd nearly forgotten about this odd feeling he had. Nearly. When the hatching was almost over, in fact, when most people assumed it WAS over, something happened that changed Epsilon's world forever. Everyone who had been brought for the clutches had impressed, there seemed so many eggs, but now... The sands were getting empty because most of the weyrling pairs now led their dragon off to the food outside and to get oil for their hides. But ... There were still two eggs left! Somewhere near the middle of the sands, eggs hatched! Two of them! One was a gigantic glimmering white, white bronze shaded dragon! His hide betrayed that he was from Rith's clutch, but he seemed even different from them! And his tiny tiny purple and white sister, she cried and looked about as well. But the bronze white began making his way quickly to the stands! People scattered, unsure about how to treat him! Then, down through the moving people, Epsilon knocked folks out of his way, until he got to the dragon's side. "Jaluth! I'm so sorry! I tried as hard as I could to get to you!" He cried, as the hatchling creeled with delight and a bit of indignation at having been ignored before. I knew you were here! I just knew it! The dragon bespoke.

Though having a rough start to his life, Jaluth and Ep'son studied hard to pass their formations and learn how to fight thread. Learning to fly was a quick, amazing process for them! For Jaluth immediately took to the air the moment the weyrlings were allowed to try flapping their wings. Jaluth was smaller than a brown right now, but he has always shown speed and nimbleness in the air! (and... an adult brown) You see how I fly circles around these slow bronzes? Jaluth bespoke, and Ep'son laughed. "I see but don't insult them! They're the strongest of the weyr!" But I am strong too, Jaluth promised. I am strong and brave. I cannot wait for Thread to fall, so I can show you how good at fighting it I am! The dragon pretended to breathe flames, and Ep'son couldn't help but think that it was true: this dragon was going to be a great thread fighter!
The flames spread against the silvery mass, and the Thread was burnt to ash within seconds. Ep'son let off a holler and patted the white flank below him. "That was good, Jaluth! Let's go home now!" Ep'son told his beautiful dragon, and they swooped through the air rather than going between. I love this! This is a great way to live, Ep'son my friend! Now... I smell a herdbeast below! I will eat soon. "You do that! But take us in first. I've got to get cleaned up! All that fire stone is very messy you know!" The dragon gave off a chuckle which turned into a belch, and upon landing, he gorged up the last of the firestone. It is a shame I could not have gotten more Thread with that, Jaluth announced. But it is just as well. I cannot eat with a stomach full of firestone! Ep'son got off the tall dragon, admiring him. He was big for one with a white hide, and always surprised people when he arrived to a Hold. For weren't whites supposed to be tiny and frail? Not so, this beautiful bronze-and-white dragon had strength and nimbleness on his side, as well as being quite large. Well, many browns and all the bronzes they'd met were bigger, but he was admirable for a fighting dragon. (not too many, not after he grows more) He'd even started to admire certain females... Ep'son wondered how fiercely Jaluth would pursue a mate, and ... what kind of mates he would have! He disrobed and slipped into his warm bathing pool, as the dragon called loudly to the sky that he'd caught a herdbeast and was going to eat it where it lay. Ep'son closed his eyes and thought about the girls who had been at Sapphire's hatching. His special dragon had come from hidden eggs, but there were many others who had been in a regular clutch. And just what kind of eggs might his wonderful white-white-bronze dragon sire? Good ones! Ones who look like me! And fight like me! Was Jaluth's answer! |

Did you know that there are more pets than just those annoying flitters, my one? Jaluth's mind nudged up against Ep'son's and lingered, with what equated to a mental grin and wink. The wing-leader, the Master Dragon Healer, the rider of this large white-white-bronze lump, looked up from his paperwork with an unfocused eye, the trademark of the 'I am bespoken to hold on a moment please' appearance. One of the apprentices almost tried interrupting, but then held his tongue as well as some of that other paperwork while his Master was chatting mentally. What... does that mean? What did you do? I didn't 'do' anything wrong, my one, why are you hinting I did something you would not like? "Maybe because last time, you dropped an entire live fish on my ledge and proceded to ask me why I wasn't digging in?" Epsilon said aloud, causing numerous people in the dragon-healing office to have to stifle laughs. Well first I'm not a pet, I'm an accomplice, and second you'll love me. Probably not more than your dragon, of course. But. The attendant Apprentice didn't stifle his gawk of surprise, dropping all the papers and having to quickly shuffle them back into a pile. He did make note of Epsilon's finger movement, shooing him from the large desk and gently indicating he'd get back to anyone else later too. There was a furry, feathery creature standing on half that paperwork, right there on the desk. Jaluth could be heard outside with that very distinctive draconic chuckle, which turned into a bellow of laughter when he felt the wave of confusion and queries from his rider. The white-white-bronze also could see this playing out through his rider's eyes, since he couldn't see into the chamber from where he was sitting, half a mile up on their weyr ledge. Epsilon kept his fingers up and moving, but tapped once on the desk and then pointed at this new addition to his desktop. "And. You... are?" "Jie!" he exclaimed, with exactly the intonation and pronunciation of 'GEE WHIZ!' without the whiz. He startled Epsilon again with the fact that he could speak. There was an obvious and lengthy pause. The small creature groomed his extremely fluffy fur for a moment. And right before Epsilon was going to ask that next question, Jie added, "I'm a Terigon, you should look us up on that thingie." The 'Terigon' placed his broad paw on to the laptop that was sitting hardly-used on this desk. Even if other people from more high-tech areas often laughed at his hesitance, Ep'son hardly used his computers... Eventually when things settled down, since there was only basic training and evaluations going on in the dragon healing department right now, Jie fell asleep and almost pushed that laptop right off the desk. Instead of allowing it to break, Epsilon grudgingly opened it, connected to the Blackstone network... Hidden deep within their mountain and able to receive interdimensional communication, that network told Epsilon all he needed to know. Carefully he placed the laptop into a drawer instead of back where those stubby (cute) paws could kick at it, and walked quietly into the lift to the upper weyrs. "I thought you said this wasn't an annoying flitter?!" Oh I know, he's not a pet! "But! Annoying!?" Epsilon wasn't angry, not even a little, but it would take some getting used to, because that furry not-flitter creature did teleport, did fly, and was definitely going to cause some trouble.
