Duties: O'ran and Hiokaith collect tithes and make deals with Holders, Crafthalls, and the like. They also have a side gig of 'tracking down thieves' but it's not really a formal bounty hunting thing, they will do this because O'ran really hates thieves. Not the kind who are 'stealing to survive', but the ones that shake down travelers and cause distress. Wing Assignment: The Queen's Wing, Tariqa Rani; nestled directly behind the Weyrwoman's gold, though he isn't a wingsecond or third, he is there more or less due to nepotism and they're all fine with that. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Name: Hiokaith (HEE yoh kayth) Species: Pernese (with magical boost); with headknobs and small widely spaced ridges along spine from head to tail end; dexterous clawed paws with thumbs on fore; two large leathery wings with 3 internal fingers and wrist thumb; split tail Gender: Male, sires Color: white based opal; very shiny pearlescent white splashed generously with a dazzling peach, green-grey, aquamarine, lavender, and grey-blue with striped markings along neck, chest and sides, and tail, more solidly on feet and backs of wings; additional teensy speckling in pale red-violet over all but undersides of wings and face; claws gold, solid wingsails mostly pale lavender and pale blues; undersides grade to white at edges Size: medium 11' s / 53' l / 80' ws Parents: Crimson f Albiath, Black/Silver f Kairriath, magically induced Abilities: Winged Flight, swift, heavy beats of those big wings bring Hiokaith into the air, and he takes off and lands without a sound (probably thanks to his telekinesis); he can fly reasonably long distances quickly, but he does need to rest after exertion and as such even though he's the size of a large blue or small brown dragon, he lacks their endurance and can't be trusted to fly against Thread; he can lift quite a bit of weight, for shorter distances, but also would chip a claw if he was on those heavy-lifting teams no thank you Teleportation (on-site, time, genre) with an amazingly strong homing instinct and directional knowledge, Hiokaith is a demon with this power. He can teleport without a sound and without missing a wing beat while in the air, to virtually any time, place, or world. It's almost as if he skips going between and just shows up where intended. (The only sad part about that, so says O'ran, is that at least when you go between, you can chill cases of wine...) He doesn't even get winded if he has to be in the same place and time as he already is, but won't do this at least with his rider present, because O'ran might get a bit freaked out. Hiokaith can pop between numerous locations on-world in short order, though after about the 3rd lengthy port he will want to at least catch his breath a little. Offworld he will cruise around a little before teleporting again but blows all of it off because 'he's here, people and dragons should be looking at him for a bit!' Telepathy, this dragon's mind is like a finely carved marble statue in feel and weight. His mental energy is confident and carefully controlled, and hardly ever would you even notice it watching your every thought... But he does. No one expects a statue's eyes to move, after all. He can communicate with his rider at any distance including off-world, though with a bit of a muted feel to it. Nearby, within about 2 miles, he listens in on any given sentient mind for juicy tidbits, but won't intervene unless he really needs to; he can communicate with other dragons at around 50 miles on their 'frequency' which even the most experienced telepathic humanoid can't keep up with Telekinesis, unusual in either a male or a solo dragon, he has quite strong localized telekinetics which he mainly uses to mitigate noise and pressure waves when he's in motion. He heard of 'owls' and decided that even if he lacks finely meshed feathers, he would like to also be silent in the air. For this reason he is an extremely adept hunter of land animals or seeker of fleeing thieves, since they will definitely not hear him hovering behind them... He can't use this power in pretty much any other way, it only affects him and the air immediately around him Assisted Firebreath, yeah nah, he can chew that stuff but won't. He tried it once. Even S'xon declared him unfit for Threadfighting and that's absolutely fine with him! Personality: Proud, easily seen as vain, and while he keeps mostly to himself, there are times he will absolutely butt into a human conversation with his own take on their issues Sociability: Aloof at best, but not cold if another dragon or even their rider needs aid; he'll definitely be there, and he will always put his best effort into acting the dignitary since first impressions (pun probably intended) are quite important even if he doesn't have to follow up on most of these travel meetings Intelligence: Quite smart, with an eye for details when his rider is interacting with other people. He will privately keep his mind open and listen for lies or subterfuge Mating: He definitely intends to contribute, and whoever is of the right size, bearing a strong will and a sharp mind, he'll be highly competitive Threadfighting: Oh absolutely not, he's not afraid to, but he is clearly not suited to that duty in any way. Not a wimp, but his flame is... shall we say, weaksauce? Even when they were young and training with firestone, it was pretty much THIS. Other: When this dragon and his rider show up for their tithe collection it's all they can do to keep a metric fuckton of potential lovers and donators away. No really, even if the dragon's a bit full of himself and the rider at times openly hostile to belligerent Lords, plenty of the cotholders and servants, staff, crafters, and whoever else is nearby will almost literally throw coin at them. They sort of embody the 'difference between charisma and charm' in that they're both incredibly charismatic and at the same time they are not exactly 'charming' toward anyone... Bond: O'ran |
