Genetic Abilities: This son of David Hoyle takes very strongly after him in most ways, in terms of powers available to him. Vortally he is spectacularly strong for empathy, aura sight, discerning Vortal powers or physical status at a distance, and of course highly invasive telepathy. Like Hoyle he can sense people long before they're near him, particularly Vortal ones can be found at nearly 2 miles. His empathic powers can be turned into offensive ones, in that he can easily sway individuals to perform actions, but also groups to influence their moods and overall level of attentiveness. He also has a very strong ability to sense, trigger, or negate Vortal powers. Around him, a panicky Pantheon kid can become calm and relaxed so their powers will stop harming others around them; he can nudge a latent power into full use with concentration and psychological work with a patient. The triggering of an existing power can be done at a range up to 100 meters, but he prefers to keep it much closer so that it can be monitored. Negation occurs around 50 meters, and he must be basically talking a patient through the process to coax a non-functional ability out into the open. His more standard telepathic powers include being able to stun a mind, usually a normal one, into inaction for a few minutes, and cloak his own presence from individual minds with ease. Hamael can also basically copy and paste information from one mind into another, sort of like Tina's conduit ability only in freeze-frame format. In dire situations, he can also actively control a person, though he tries not to do this unless circumstances are very bad. Physically he can 'smell' Vortally powered individuals, he claims, because like his mother can 'see' puzzle pieces and 'taste' DNA, he does this Vortally and his sense of sight is garbage...
Skills or Profession: Trained strongly as a psychologist and powers expert, but he also tends to help out with helping younger Pantheon or others with powers to figure out how best to use their abilities. Where his brother can splice together genes like they're going out of style, Hamael tends to look much more closely at what their effects will be. They can collaborate, but tend to compete. He is a very good listener, and more genuinely able to help people through their traumas than his brother, and he exploits the education he's been given in order to make sure that people are overall happy. He does a sort of Vortal Feng Shui to best situate people who have powers together - or apart, if there are conflicts.
Personality: considerably more kind and genuine than his brother, Hamael still has a bit of a mean streak and is somewhat prideful. But overall he's genuinely concerned that life in post-Combine worlds should be better than it is. Also he's a hoarder like their mother, his first actions after being Icarus treated were to ask Melissa why she hadn't put this and that sample together yet - at which point she taught him how to do it himself...
Events or History: As with his brother, conceived at the Enclave while Mel and the others were 'on vacation'. As fraternal twins, Ilya and Hamael are hardly alike, but share quite a bit of their history of course. Melissa did carry him to term, while Ilya was from Carmen's surrogacy, and Hamael was born about a month before Ilya. Hoyle himself took quite the interest in all of this, because his own 'fatherhood' had to be kept quite secret: Paxton wasn't going to know, and didn't, until that visit to the Enclave. And wasn't all that happy with how Mel behaved there. But with these twins things changed, eventually at least. Raising the kids in a post-Combine setting meant they had more time to develop interesting differences. He personally assisted Hamael in finding new ways to use his abilities, and is confident that he'll become quite well known - even if it's not politics or leadership, David's proud of this son. And slightly afraid of the other. When the Rookery was announced, he was more eager than his brother to arrive to this new world, and was almost immediately chosen by a burly Mudwing healer. Because they do make an incredibly good team for both physical and psychological recovery, they tend to be on hand for some large conflicts, but often return to their spot in the Bayou (their preferred location), the Grounds (next happiest), or over at North Aperture. |
