It reduced his weight and strengthened his bones and musculature, strength improved to around 2.5x normal, and his healing factor is at least as strong as his mother's, which is to say 'regenerative immortality'. Genetic Abilities: Because Hoyle was part of the Origin project, in fact the 'one sixth' that caused Paxton to be off the charts Vortally, Ilya follows that pattern well. His powers are centered on genetics, he's able to manipulate his own genes completely, though not shapeshifting he can adjust his DNA to reflect those needs for breeding, or even for coded ID tags such as are found in Armacham or Combine installations. If he has a sample of the right DNA, he can emulate it with ease in minutes for a short duration. For 'breeding' purposes it's considerably easier because he can select a 'batch' of sperm and just... be shooting someone else's entire appearance, Vortal power, and any other side effects. This is strongly improved when he's working with other Icarus-treated individuals, no matter their gender: he can emulate a male's makeup if he's got their samples on hand, and can imprint the right things for a female's reception. Any offspring that he produces will be quite powerful, but will not necessarily have anything to do with him in appearance or even powers. The other side of this, is that he can lay on hands and manipulate other people in this way too. Again, though, Icarus-treated people are done with ease, Vortal ones overall, and non-powered people he doesn't really even bother with unless they've got some specific trait that he thinks would be of use elsewhere. These changes are temporary, but again he knows how to use this specifically on egg and sperm cells, and often enough he'll be working with Melissa or Carmen on extracted or donated cells rather than full people. Mostly. He can sense genetics and Vortal abilities in the same manner as his mother, as 'puzzle pieces' visible to his Vortal eyes, though he only knows Human DNA and not other creatures, even Vorts elude him. Additionally he has very strong Vortal communication skills, including close range empathy that he can use to slightly sway moods if needed on groups up to 20 individuals, long range telepathy up to 10 miles for a mind he knows and around 500 meters for those he doesn't have existing contact with. His own mind is very strong and difficult to spy on, except for anyone in the Vahh clan: they can easily detect and even manipulat him Vortally, which he doesn't appear to like very much. Ilya has a strong memory, which is aided by his regeneration, quite a bit like Melissa's.
Skills or Profession: genetic engineering is obviously his strongest suit, though he dabbles in crowd control when needed. He has a ton of science downloads in addition to practical experience while working with his mother in the Icarus and Medusa labs, and later in Rapture. He knows his way around virtually any laboratory setting, from clean-room process to disposal, surgery and recovery, and biohazard handling. Because his body basically refuses any kind of parasite or infection, he rarely uses biohazard gear to handle samples, but Melissa really really wants him to at least try... Also he's a fashion hound for exotic stuff like what he is shown wearing. With both the Coffee Grounds and Rapture having access to costumes and 'long out of date but very cool' fashions, he's loving it.
Personality: With all of the professional skill and Vortal talent he shows, everyone wishes he wouldn't be so absolutely shit to people he doesn't respect. He is flippant and arrogant to a degree that even Paxton is impressed. And 'Uncle' Vahh has had to sternly caution him (and his brother, honestly) that he should be a lot more careful who he pisses off. Just because he'll heal from a shotgun to the face, doesn't mean he should warrant getting shot. Unlike his mother, he doesn't ask before manipulating people. And unlike his brother, Ilya has strongly considered taking the Aristide name for himself - a fact which everyone hates. He is so much like his 'grandmother' Genevieve it's not even funny. People tolerate him because he is remarkably talented, and doing good work wherever he goes, but... jeez man. Anything but that. Vortigaunts do not care for him but neither did they shy away from naming him.
Events or History: When a teleporter was assembled in David Hoyle's estate in the Pacific Northwest, allowing for easier travel to the European Cities as well as a well-needed respite from the daily horror show in Black Mesa or the Enrichment Center areas, Melissa finally met the 'one sixth' that distinguished Paxton from his brother Geoff: David Hoyle himself. And of course, this meeting couldn't have been 'better' timed - they fell madly in bed after a very very short conversation. Though both Ilya and Mael were conceived at the same time, they were born separately after some amount of external work by Mel. Since this happened in a nebulous period between 2020 and the end of the Combine, the brothers never really knew what all had occurred to the world and truly didn't care. Ilya in particular began studying up on things regarding the Aristide fortunes, since literally everything around them even in the ruins were Armacham branded, and he picked up on how important it was to have a 'brand' outright. Only after the Rookery was established did he really come into his own, since mostly he was relied upon to select donations and help in the lab to mix up new children for the future. He still does that, and now he enjoys the wider variety of genes and people available for such things... Particularly those from Aperturth, or even the more exotic locales, but no one is willing to bring him to Zekira (... well, no one admits to it but they absolutely did bring him there). He has dorms across the many locations having genetic engineering - the Rookery, Rapture, and the North Aperture facilities specifically. He spends much of his time in Rapture, however, and his dragon generally roosts up at the Aerie keeping the place dangerous for Combine incursions (and for visitors, but let's not worry about that).
Dragon Name: Cold Stars Gender: Male Size/Shoulder/Length: Large 13'6" s / 50' l / 115' ws *Colors: belly and body/limbs, tail, wing arms and face very dark velvety green; armor on face, neck, body, tail, limbs and wing arms sparkling aqua blue and neon green, mottled and speckled into darker areas; wing sails nebula black background with pale blue and spring green, and tiny white star speckling (nightwing for sure); horns, claws, spikes black mottled as wingsails; eyes frosty white Features: Physically presents as an Icewing in body form and build, however with coloration and some amount of abilities is very clearly a Nightwing hybrid Powers: Winged Flight, bearing massive wings that are flexible and quite strong, Cold Stars is adept at aerial acrobatics and power flight, able to hover with a sinuous motion similar to a very slow hummingbird - and then speeding off with equitable hummingbird blur. He's known to simply whoosh past things in a sparkling dark streak, not quite teleporting, but certainly close! Because he is still an Icewing it's difficult for him to carry passengers (even his rider, but the only complaints that Ilya has is that his clothing gets worn from the sharpness), but he can carry whole-ass icebergs, and does so in order to dissuade Combine incursion, as well as placing them as stepping stones for travellers. He can stay aloft in even the chilliest air, though he tends to land and rest when there's considerable wind or bad conditions, mostly because he likes to be able to see where he's going. Communication, again showing off that he's hardly just an Icewing with weird colors, Cold Stars has a strong Vortal grasp on telepathy, intimately tied to his Human companion, but also able to sense those deeply below the waves in Rapture. He can speak mainly English and understand Vort - but since the Vorts don't care to hang out with his rider, he has only learned some nasty things. His Draconic is 'lacking', but that's likely because he's young and was not born on Pyrrha. Ice/Cold Adaptations and Powers, he's quite comfortable in icy water and blizzards, though does still prefer clear and cold, over storms. He can withstand near-space levels of cold, and he proves this by flying high enough to almost run out of air. But that said, he is quite capable of adding to storms, with the use of his big wings, and his breath weapon. He can super-cool air in a wide swath, flash-freezing things caught in it. Living things might survive if they're protected with armor or thick clothing or some form of cold-resistant biology. But anything that is not prepared for this will be dead, brittle to the touch and usually falling apart. This power reliably only works in the air, rather than under water. It's possible to see a line of broken and disabled Combine scanners and troops anywhere around the Aerie, they often hit the ice and then eventually drift under the water where they're picked up by the locals down there. His claws and spikes are extremely sharp, though less so than some of the pure Icewings. He does like using his tail spikes to bash into things that believe he's missed on a flight nearby. *Parentage: Unknown Icewings, however it's clear from his coloration that there is a nightwing somewhere in his background, maybe more than one actually.
