Name: Raquell Gender: Female, straight Age/DOB: ~20, aged, RY7 Origin: created on Repurposed Earth, sent directly to Rapture on Rookery Family: all ELLs are her siblings Other: She's pretty sure that there are folks in Rapture that are worth looking into Height: 5'8" Weight: 105* Icarus processing reduces her overall weight, she's moderately strong, and much more durable than typical, heals up to 3x faster than normal Hair: medium to dark brown, thick, slightly wavy, kept shortish to shoulders, and styled in the local fashion Eyes: light blue, almost a sky-blue color, large, round Appearance: medium tan skin, since she's 'new' she has no hint of scars and no moles or markings, though she does work with metals and stone tools so it's likely that she might incur larger injuries that will scar, she could easily heal from them as well, who knows. She is tall and slender, not skinny, and loves the fashions of old Rapture quite a lot, and looks good in them to boot. Even when she's working on something, she still prefers to use a skirt or smock, rather than pants, and almost always is found in traditional Aperture orange and white versions of whatever she finds. She embodies the elegance of art deco, and could pose for the statues she shapes. She has an even, somewhat commanding voice when needed, but prefers to hum to herself while working. Icarus Processing: yes, while she was created and a second time after arriving to Rapture. The first was at the AAEC back 'home', which fused her bones with strong carbon fiber, and altered her physical makeup as well as boosting her Vortal power significantly. On arrival to Rapture, however, a second 'dose' of the Plasmid-mixture was given to enhance her metal-shaping powers and tune her to the right dimension's vibrations. |

Genetic Abilities: along with a modest psychic suite of telepathy (to about 50 meters), empathy (strong with individuals at very close range, max of 10 people, to 25 meters), and aura sight (strong, captures 'essences' easily up close to 10 meters), she is gifted as many ELLs are with a sense of machinery and metals, and she's taken this to an extreme in the form of metal shaping. She has learned from Jared how best to work on metals while they're warm, but can use raw Vortal energy to shape them while the substance is just sitting there at room temperature. She uses a form of Vortal imprinting to change the shape of a piece, infusing details onto the surface, molding the overall outline, and posing things into fanciful positions as if in a trance. She's got the kind of weird Vortal power eminating off of her, that if she was in a room with statues made of either stone or metal, they would all turn to face her, or react to her moods, and it's super creepy - but also super in keeping with her surroundings, given that she's taken residence in Sander Cohen's old digs... and there ARE statues and figures there. Responding to her moods. Her shaping can be simple, surface work, but also she can format metal so that it's a shell, using far less of it than expected, so a lot of her works, while they are sturdy and resist damage if they fall or are struck, are quite light weight. A human-sized statue made of bronze might only weigh about 50lbs rather than 300 or more. While she can 'instantly' create faces or foot-square sized details, she tends to take her time and work slowly on one statue before moving on to another. A human-sized statue of metal could take about 3 days worth of on-again off-again work to become 'finished' from a lump of metal, while the same in stone might take about 10 days, as stone is both more difficult to work with for her, and a bit more brittle when done. Either of those processes must be done in hour or two-hour chunks at most, as the process does exhaust her Vortally, but she takes lots of breaks, and while she isn't using her power, she can still be chipping or sanding the product, she's hardly ever 'at rest' even when giving her powers time off. A hand-sized piece of metal can be shaped at a distance over 4 meters, but anything larger she needs to be closer to it, touching is best, as her Vortal impression is a holistic matter, and not just a vague aura. She can obviously use this ability on machinery or even silverware, but prefers to work on large pieces of brass and bronze, rather than electronics wiring or gears. She cannot refine or separate metals, they must be in a workable format.
Skills or Profession: in a world damaged almost beyond repair, some beauty must be found. Once things have fallen into a pattern, however, Mel and Rhea saw a need. Rapture had been filled with science and art, and there is plenty of science. With downloads for art a bit on the scarce side, they have resorted to using Vortal echoes found with various people Vortally to 'capture' old hints of skill. The existing ELL downloads were muted in favor of more specific metallurgy and design, color theory and anatomy. As time went on after her aging in a local Rapture lab, she was able to start soaking in those echoes herself, but has had to make an effort to filter the really weird shit out. Cohen was, shall we say, quite strongly Vortal, and more than just his artistic talent lingers. She can place sculptures in very artstic poses, and put them in locations where their visual impact is best. Also she works with lighting and set dressing, so on occasion she'll be called in to the theater to help out with performances.
Personality: A bit aloof and mysterious, but that's mostly because she's mentally occupied watching all the Vortal echoes around her and drawing inspiration from them. She seems a little on the distracted side most of the time for this reason, but if she's invited to participate in something where she isn't working directly on it, she's engaged and enjoyable to be around. She is quite well aware of the history of Rapture, and takes pains to avoid falling into artistic and personality traps.
Events or History: she was created specifically with several other ELLs for social integration rather than scientific or mechanical work. While most people seem to understand that the distinctive orange and white designs of her outfits belong to a 'breed' of people, many down in Rapture don't know the origin of this group, and don't even care - they know that these young women are a little eerie but quite competent in their fields, and deserve respect. She essentially arrived as an infant, vanished for a month or two, and then there was a new adult in the fold in Rapture's artistic group. Deco and her family enjoy being around humans, and Deco has posed for some sculptures, Raquell loves this and cannot wait for the world above to be as 'safe' as it is below. |
