Name: Dr. Rachel Cooper PhD Gender: Female, hetero Age/DOB: *30/1956 (placed in stasis in 1979, removed 2030) Origin: Seattle Washington, Repurposed Earth (and others) Family: Deceased parents, no known children before being reawakened; when Melissa was putting together newer 'reborn' friends, she tossed in a tiny touch of Rachel for Laura; was mixed with spare DNA by Rookery GLaDOS and is the 'mother' of Rose and Prisma of the Color Guard Other: Had a massive crush on and actually dated Winslow Freeman, that is: Gordon's father, in high school. Height: 5'8 Weight: 135, muscular, but not toned, underweight at times because of forgetting to eat Hair: red headed stepchild red, more than wavy, frizzy in dry weather, doesn't much care for style so every once in a while she just lops it off with whatever scissors she can reach. Eyes: blue-green, pale, 00ac9e hex Appearance: Creamy fair skin, freckles in sun, but not obviously scarred. Almost always looks like she's been up too late, and has had too much coffe. Pretty much likes wearing jeans, lab coat, and tee-shirt, Doc Martin boots before they were popular. Sometimes adds an HEV-like body armor with helmet, and usually has a tool belt or portal devices somewhere near her. Adds fingerless (or rubber) gloves as needed. Voice: low for a woman, speaks with a bit of a twang mostly from her time at Aperture, does not get loud unless something's really pissed her off. Genetic Abilities: None known, but is exceptionally intelligent. Icarus Processing: none, though has seriously considered doing so just to see what happens. She is a good candidate, according to Melissa. Brains (raw smarts) 8 |

Skills or Profession: Teleportation Technology, Computer Programming, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.
Rachel is good at computers, technology, and thinking with Portals. She's also great with arguing with artificial intelligence, making sure things don't go completely south when a disaster occurs, and scavenging for parts when needed. Exceptional at appraising an object for its component parts, ripping them out, and using them for something else. Melee Weapons: do not go near her when she's holding tools. Ever. Ranged Weapons: She will also throw those tools – preferably screwdrivers – into your face. Uses a hunting rifle reasonably well, can shoot paper wad baskets unerringly. Other Weapons (explosives, etc): Prefers a portal gun and/or a gravity gun for their propelling and movement options, is an excellent shot using the grav gun and a small object. Armor: none, other than dodging. |

Personality: open and honest, unafraid to point fingers when necessary, but generally keeps to herself unless there's something worth complaining about. Is not a go-getter type, but works well on her own. She is a shameless flirt, and in the swinging 70s could have been accused of sleeping her way to the top of Aperture's departments. But she wasn't actually even trying to do that, it's more likely that her superiors wanted to keep her on hand - for whatever, because she was good at everything they put her on. She is not too keen on heights, doesn't like airplanes, and prefers a quiet environment to a loud one, for working anyway. Rachel likes to enjoy life, but at her own speed. Sometimes that speed is hyper-caffeinated, and sometimes it's sipping brandy in a nice fire-lit den, and others it's toking up with a bunch of Rastafari musicians. | |
Events or History:
Born and raised in the burbs of Seattle, Washington, it was a quirk of fate that sent Rachel on her science path. Well, actually, a mad crush on a certain dark haired, green eyed geek. Rachel went to high school with the infamous Winslow Freeman (That's Gordon Freeman's father, by the way), even going so far as joining the science club to maybe attract his attention. She did get it, but their teenage fling was just that, a fling, and he was accepted to a university a bit before she was. She began to study in earnest about computers, engineering and applications. This led to a degree in computer technology and a published work about artificial intelligence (which was in its infancy) and its potential in both military and domestic use. Though she applied to several companies, Black Mesa included, they didn't have the area of research she wanted to go into, and thus her application to Aperture was accepted. The Borealis time travel program was already well on its way by the time she arrived and for whatever reason she was placed with the think tank there to aid in some nutball device that Cave Johnson wanted made. |
