Name: Rex Disler Gender: Male Age/DOB: 25 / 1998 Origin: Repurposed Earth, Alabama, USA Family: Marshall Disler (uncle), unknown parents names, Jillian (girlfriend/wife), Duke (m) and Reina (f) kids with her Other: Probably has been spliced with numerous similarly powered Pantheon women by Melissa Height: 5'9 Weight: 140, somewhat slender and not very strongly built Hair: medium brown, usually bleached a bit by sun or powers, straight. Casually draped over his face most of the time, he has a practiced flip of the head to clear his eyes, and the coy look usually causes girls to swoon. At least that's how he sees himself. Eyes: Greenish blue, more blue than green. His eyes reflect his mood, at times being strongly green, others a mix of teal and sky blue. He has long, dark lashes and isn't afraid to use them Appearance: Fair skinned and with a penchant for fancy clothing and expensive trendy accessories, Rex lives up to his name in every way he can. If he had the talent, he could be a teen heartthrob singer or boy-band star. Fortunately he knows better than to open his mouth during a karaoke session. He can go on looks alone, and certainly has a dramatic style. When he enters a room, people look at him. He flashes a perfectly-toothy smile at a room and moves on. Icarus Processing: no, Disler didn't feel this necessary, as Rex's potential power was strong already. |

Genetic Abilities: Very strong ESP (extra sensory perception) but this power is completely outside of his control and is apt to sense into other dimensions rather than the local real-world area. This power comes over him at random times, never predicted by any obvious triggers. He was known to have this happen to him very early on in his life, including as a toddler. Since this was observed and known not to be merely a seizure, his keepers opted to continue watching him and immediately move to use sensors and ask him what he'd seen. Rex's power to sense across the barrier is something that impressed Lane when he realized the boy was actually broadcasting in a Vortal manner, dragging anyone who could detect this vision, into it. For the most part, practically none of the visions he's ever seen have given any particularly good insight - he's seen what the group might have been like in other dimensions. But he also detected the Rookery's dimension, before they got there. It is in part due to his ability that they are here at all. Rex's other power, which he actually uses, is that of strong, highly controlled, pyrokinetics. He can create flame - both cool and hot - at will. From the light and heat of a single match, to a highly focused but short beam of ultra-hot metal-melting torch, to being able to 'cast' it as fireballs or flares, Rex has learned how to manipulate these flames in a remarkably expert fashion. |

Skills or Profession: Even though Rex's personality is at best shallow and at worst cruel, he was going to be part of the Disler camp of politically active science oriented folks - though not as an educator or intellectual, more as an entertainer. Charming, attractive, flamboyant, Rex would have been groomed by his uncle and family to be on the forefront of 'Telestheic Entertainment'. Armacham's poster boy for 'you want to be this cool'. This didn't make his personality any less arrogant. As the Events interrupted any of this, he was put more or less in his place by Paxton and the needs of the Pantheon. As such, Rex has heightened his abilities and is of use as not only an entertainer, but exceptionally good in a fight. He still prefers not to fight. | |
Personality:
(pre-Events) Pretty clearly, Rex has entitlement issues and is rather full of himself. He is very attractive, and apparently rich enough (or given enough of a stipend from Disler) to throw himself around. He knows his uncle's name is plastered on numerous buildings around town, and has even made the attempt to read Marshall's thesis work (an attempt that he is sadly unable to really understand) in order to make himself look far more important than he is. He's not above petty arguments, insults and mocking those around him. None of these things actually detract people from wanting to be near him, he is undeniably charismatic. If he has any private fears or regrets, the empaths have not found them – he really is quite shallow. The only time he feels vulnerable is when he actually IS vulnerable – during his uncontrolled visions. Luckily for him, most of the time people fall over themselves to make sure he's not going into a seizure or being injured otherwise, and aren't interested in abusing him while he's not able to fight back. And then he found a massive colorful dragon. Great. |

Events or History: While a youth, Rex was often taken care of by his actual parents - though his father and mother are not his only parents. Melissa could confirm that at least one other (possibly his uncle) male donor and another mishmash was in there somewhere. Since his pyrokinetics surfaced a bit later than his ESP, not too many people were prepared for it. He spent more time in the Enrichment Center after his fire was discovered, more for safety than anything else. Brought into use for defense as well as offense, Rex assisted in defeating GLaDOS as well as getting locations secured from the Combine once they'd arrived. But aside from that, Rex has maintained a reasonable sense of normalcy in his life. He paired up with Jill after seeing her in a vision (shared with many, including Paxton, who asked him about it when he awoke) and they really never split up even after the dragons come. Because of his ability to broadcast his visions, Kallah-vahh took notice of him and kept him under passive but constant observation. It wasn't difficult to tell when Rex was going into his visionary process - he was all but a gigantic neon target for the Convocation. Though some of Rex's visions were meaningless to him and the Pantheon, they were of far more use to Lane when he sat down and mulled them over. Other universes, other dimensions versions of himself, or worlds where he hadn't interrupted things - Rex didn't know the consequences of these dreams, even when he could remember them. But when Lane approached him at Black Mesa about them, Rex's sense of self-worth was bolstered yet again by 'someone important'... |
