Name: Anthony 'Tony' Ashe Gender: Male, bisexual Age/DOB: ~20, aged, 2023 Origin: Repurposed Earth, AAEC Family: Unknown splices, though may be related to some he's likely distant; part of the Reborn Pantheon; He and Katharine have a son Kain Other: He has chosen to live in Rapture, he loves the old styled clothing and how there's actually water around him all the time... the ghosts, not so much. Height: 6'1" Weight: 130* Icarus lightened, though he would hardly be over 150 anyway his build is very slight and long Hair: medium brown, silky and flyaway, will have some pattern baldness; does keep a full but well trimmed beard and mustache Eyes: haunted coppery brown, usually as shown with significant sleepless dark circles below them Appearance: fair skinned but with a lot of scarring from before he learned how to control his powers over fire. Because they were effectively Vortally inflicted, and by himself, no one, not even Sandy, has been able to heal the scars away; he really likes vests and 'professor style' coats, jackets, and sweaters Icarus Processing: Yes, at the age of 3, though he and Melissa both kind of regret it. It did strengthen his joints and muscularity, lighten his weight considerably, so he's at least as durable as a typical Pantheon member. He's no faster or healthier, but he does seem to be able to work his way through narrow or difficult places with ease. His Vortal sight was dramatically improved by the processing, and may have had the side effect that now the things he sees... see him back. |

Genetic Abilities: Though he is more known for his name being why he's scarred (ashes, after all) and does have a minor but unpredictably strong pyrokinesis, he is quite a bit stronger with his Vortal sense. The reason he hardly gets any sleep is that he sees and actually attracts ghosts. And in any world, there are lots of ghosts. His pyrokinesis can be used for lighting small items on fire, igniting any flammable gas, or to extinguish small flames (up to, say, a kitchen fire). He can do this reliably at close range, within a single room or around 10 meters, but unreliably or if he's been startled by a ghost it can bloom to literally exploding things, working at distances over 30 meters, and causing even protected items to burst into flames, including himself, other people, or water. His Vortal sight is basically 'always on', and cannot be trained into a softer state. Within around 100 meters, he can see, hear, and in some cases interact with 'physically' (Vortally) any dead life form that has a self-awareness or consciousness. So, Vorts, Grunts, Humans, invasive wildlife that may or may not have names... Of note, even if the creature was self-aware and has other Vortal abilities, if it was machine-created (so, ARRISA or GLaDOS) he cannot detect it. He also cannot detect or interact with the psionics of the Combine, which is likely a blessing. His power is exclusively on Vortessence. Over 100 meters, he can still see or 'sense' them, but not interact. At around 20 meters, if he doesn't have anything else going on, ghosts will come to him and start chatting, they're very noisy. He has the usual psychic suite of empathy and telepathy with other Vortal people, and can easily be seen by anyone with Vortal inputs because there's always a haze of other minds hovering around him.
Skills or Profession: Trained with the typical implanted skill sets of a Pantheon being prepared for the future, he has a good amount of math, science, and engineering under his brain. He's sought out history and philosophy, mostly at the suggestion of some of those people that talked to him - he knew them once, or is it they knew him? His old Keepers? The nurse at the Enrichment Center? Turns out they're ghosts, too, but he didn't realize it until much later. He's quite good at multitasking with conversations, he can keep up a real-live discussion as well as brushing off whatever Vortal ones are going on near him. Down in Rapture, he's setting himself up to work with the bathyspheres, and though he's not a plumber or civil engineer by any stretch, he has access to tons of the dead people's experiences there too. He's not really strong enough to work on some of the bigger machinery so he calls in others for that duty, instructing them with the words directly from the guy who installed them originally...
Personality: He knows perfectly well that he will never be free of these ghosts. But at least down here in Rapture, they are both interesting and of a specifically limited quantity. Though he tries to put on a cheerful face, he would love to just get a good night's sleep at some point. Keenan has helped instruct him with how to deal with not sleeping, but also has offered to try and find locations around the world (either Repurposed or Rookery) to let him get a little rest. In fact it'd be nice if he could just make a door to one of those spots, he likes that one hotel near Seattle - Hoyle's place? * Dear lord no, please not that one in Aperture. No. Maybe just the ranch.
Events or History: Reborn from spliced materials and notes from the original scientists who built the Paragon students, Anthony would have had a strange life anyway. But since he died as an infant in the nursery at the Enrichment Center when the Events occurred, he's among the weird Vortal minds that clung to a form of existence without his body - until Melissa recreated it. He does have a bit of a connection to Marline and Zach, the weird ghost-like minds that now have bodies just like him, though he rather envies them for being better able to deal with it all. For the moment he remains at Rapture, but he's been eyeballing Iceland and Greenland for potential 'not many ghosts there' inhabitation areas. If he could convince some of the stronger-Vortal lifters, maybe they could put an entire city somewhere, that no one's ever died in. |
