Name: Kain Ashe Gender: Male, bi Age/DOB: ~17, 2032 Origin: Repurposed Earth, moved to Rookery when quite young Family: Mother Katharine, father Tony Other: He's proving quite popular among the Rapture inhabitants, even if he is a bit weird Height: 5'11" Weight: 150, all muscle, excellent torso strength; since he had no Icarus but both parents were treated, he does have a lot more strength than a typical man Hair: Dark brown, silky and though thick doesn't hold a style very well, kept to nape of neck Eyes: shiny reflective brown, almond shaped, under thin brows; not quite as reflective as his mother's but without the dark hollows that plague his dad Appearance: creamy fair skin with no scars or markings, he keeps a thin somewhat shaggy short beard (it'll grow out, for sure, by this time next year... uh huh), big teeth that he rarely shows in a smile; tends to wear simple outfits gathered from wherever they have been, likes suedes and thicker materials since it's often pretty chilly in Rapture, though he obviously likes showing off his arms because that's where girls or guys like to dangle as he flexes... Has a rich voice that dropped early, and tends to smell a bit oddly because of his powers leading him through the Void Icarus Processing: no, both parents had it and since Tony's power was a bit too strong after his Mel decided to forego it on their child. He was also not aged, like many of his peers were, he grew up more or less in Rapture after a very young childhood at the Enrichment Center |

Genetic Abilities: very strong Vortal suite, consisting of telepathy at up to 10 miles with stronger reception (up to 50 miles) from those who can project, he has exceptional ability with multiple people and groups at up to 1 mile. He does claim that strong mental voices are 'too loud' at less than 500 meters, and anyone with very powerful Vortal energy risks blistering his mind at close range. He is a good empath though not as overwhelmed at 50 meters as he is with telepathy. He can pick out individual minds among groups of even normal people. His Vortal aura sight and manipulation are without par in the Pantheon, able to sense Vortal minds at 200 miles, Vortigaunts and Convocation-member level minds at 500, normal people at 50. He is strongly tuned to pick up minute details about the uses of powers, whether someone has a specific ability, and the like, at ranges up to 100 meters with clarity. He can touch someone and learn their entire life history if he wants to; thankfully he can turn this ability off, or focus on one particular part of it, reviewing it like a video tape. This feels quite weird and vividly brings up all those sensations, even ones which have been forgotten, in the person he's 'watching', so if it's trauma they will absolutely re-live it, and he wants to avoid that. Like his mother, he can sense where people have been via Vortal echoes and lines, his whole vision is filled with clouds of the past, but he is able to discern any amount of detail he needs to, from visual or Vortal sources, since he grew up with this as a feature. He can also sense the dead, as his father can, but they tend to shy away from him for whatever reason, perhaps because he has been known to actually siphon down the energy they produce and 'send them to the Void' properly. He is actively able to 'move souls' from one Vortal spot to another, herding them away from Tony as a child, and learning how to better focus this ability as he grew up, from Vorts. Because Vortikind exist both in and out of their physical forms, they are especially keen on making sure that he doesn't interfere with their existence. Thus they sat him down early on, and had him practice with them until he knew his limits, and also their boundaries. But because he can sense and interact with the Vortessence directly, he also has an ability that only a very few people, and all of them Convocation-ranked in power, can do - he can traverse the Void, the between, teleporting consciously and genrehopping unconsciously, from one world to another. This isn't moving to Xen, this is actually the 'Interval', the realm of the dead. There, he has encountered Leviathan Shindaerey, The Outsider, among other entities that reside in such places (Misota, the Mistress of the Outside(r) as well). He treats this as a kind of exploration, but also takes duties there seriously. He moves bodily through these locations, not merely his Vortal aura or Vortessence, like some folks who astral project might. He does 'see all the worlds', from this vantage, and has been taught how to select for specific exit locations, by Levi as well as Keenan.
Skills or Profession: having a series of Vorts, Convocation, and even otherworldly gods instruct him on how to use his powers has been odd but he kept up with all those lessons with ease. Given that his mother had Pythagoras treatments, his mind is just as sharp as hers, and he enjoys the challenges that seeing and interacting with multiple dimensions has provided. He considers himself a 'ferryman of souls', when he finds a location that is filled with unhappy spirits he can nudge them toward their own proper ends - or just outright destroy them if they're dangerous to the living or themselves already. He is a very good judge of character, a feature built from long sessions with Noah the Vort, and in fact he has been requested to join the Vorts when they name individuals - something no other non-Vort has ever been asked to do. Because he wasn't aged and wasn't given skill downloads, his skills at psychology and sociology have come from books and practice, and he uses them daily to make sure that everyone, even the dead, are resting well at the end of a Rapture day. Though he is an extremely adept empath he doesn't have any ability to exert control over emotions, but he's often on hand for people who have had traumas to ease them through analyzing those issues, coming to terms with their own emotions. Kain is also a bit of an explorer, and has remarkable navigational skills both on and off world. Occasionally he is tapped to help Melissa sort out powers or Vortal abilities among the samples she's keeping and mixing, but he does think that's a little weird. Obviously he can speak and understand Vortigese fluently, thanks to his years of practice and functionally being a human-Vort 'diplomat'.
Personality: he is surprisingly well balanced and calm, one might even say chill in the face of adversity. He's no cold fish, but he doesn't emote strongly unless he's really relaxed, in the company of people he trusts. (That's usually Vorts, to be honest.) He does seem to act with the same ease whether he's near a normal human, a Vort, a ghost, a godling, or a Convocation entity; treating everyone with reasonable and expected respect, unless provoked into acting otherwise.
Events or History: Before the move to the Rookery, the Reborn and other Pantheon were pairing up, and though Tony and Katharine aren't necessarily a permanent couple, they proved to be adept and loving parents to this prodigy. And oddly enough - when he was growing up, Tony actually got more sleep than he'd ever gotten before, thanks to Kain's ability to shoo away the pesky ghosts lurking literally everywhere. Taught by the Vorts, even before he entered tutoring by others for more conventional education, Kain has always been markedly intelligent, and very easy to teach. He attends every word and is patient enough to point out errors only after a lesson's done. And he does notice them... Since he doesn't concentrate his efforts on machinery, instead working with people, he has always carefully watched them and learned from actions and words, before approaching anyone at all. If his instincts say to avoid someone, he will defintely avoid them, but observe from afar - usually without them noticing - to figure out just why they are pinging his 'nope-meter'. When they moved to the Rookery world, one of the first things he did was aid in 'fixing' a Vort whose injuries prevented him from connecting to the Vortessence and thus 'being' a Vort at all - and this absolutely cemented his place among them. He didn't work on the Vort's scarred brain, that was Sandy, but he did coax the Vort's energies back into their proper place around him, and allowed him to once more Flux Shift and sense his peers. Kain was intrigued by the strangely familiar but not-home 'version' of the Rookery's Vortessence, and because he understands how they're different, he has proven very valuable in finding new worlds to explore, as he moves through the Void and back into realities that are not this one.
