Gemertak. His name, not surprisngly, means rattle - for a 'dangerous' naga rukel like himself that's par for the course. But he's not all that dangerous really. He would much rather just sit in on classes or watch the daily activities around him. He isn't the brightest of rukels, but he does understand geography and maps, they fascinate him. Gem's a little protective of what he considers 'his', too. Once he's latched on to something, no matter what it is nor where it came from, it's best left forgotten by its original owner.

That's really the only good thing about the saying, 'if it was a snake it would have bit you' - if a ball or toy rolls into his general vicinity, it's now 'his' and that's all there is to it. Who's gonna argue with a snake-creature?

It was actually not Halloween, nor even October, when Gemertak was rooting around his section of the grounds. He'd noticed something odd down there, burrowing in the looser dirt. It was not at all what he expected, when a nose poked up, and was shortly followed by a pair of enormous ears.

What! ...Are you? He tried passing it off as merely noticing, but this newcomer absolutely could tell the rukel was surprised.

You should ask who, she replied, orange eyes narrowed but mostly because there was dirt apt to fall into them. The rest of her appeared, spotted as well as striped, a ... bunny dragon? As small as he was?

Well then, 'who' are you? He didn't seem miffed at having to ask twice, or at all. In fact Gem had to resist adding 'and where have you been all my life'...

She climbed fully out of the burrow-hole and shook free from any of the dust and crumbles, and began grooming herself. I am Kagex, I'm assuming you are the one who stores all that stuff in the nooks below?

I'm... I'm Gemertak, he thought back, and then abruptly looked down at the loose dirt. Yeah that's my stuff! You didn't mess it up did you?

She just rolled her eyes, and curled up next to the suddenly-sedate snake rukel. Of course not, it's not mine to mess with is it.

He did not get the hint that meant maybe he should stop swiping things... But by the time it might matter, there might be young bunny-dragon-rukel-kids to play with it all anyway.
