Name: Hickory (l) and Switch (r) Zlatari
Gender: Male, straight (l), bisexual (r)
Age/DOB: 8 @ arrival, currently about 19
Origin: Aperturth, born near Mansion grounds
Family: father Oak, mothers Anna (l) and Ariel (r); half-brother Lars; sisters/cousins Lotus, Liana, Persephone, Pandora brother/cousin Hector and Hermes
Other: Though born from two mothers, Hickory and Switch are still twins - even Melissa can't tell which of them had who as a birth parent, and they carry all the same Zlatari tags. Plus, there's that weird bit that the Vorts say they are 'the same spirit', not even as different as brothers from the same parents, they have the same lih.
Height: 6'2"
Weight: both around 180 and all muscle, they really are tremendously powerful but at the same time they're not bulky in any way, flexible and sleek
Hair: both have brightly blond hair with golden tones, will likely turn platinum with age; Hickory keeps his longer and shaggier as shown, always looking windblown; Switch prefers a short cut; they both have the beginnings of nice beards, but keep that stubble because girls... and a good number of guys like that stubble
Eyes: grey brown, much lighter than their fathers', the color of slightly stained blonde wood; heavy lashes, and equally burly brows
Appearance: fair skin with quite a few freckles, golden body hair; Hickory has gear that allows him to head outdoors, including armor and a hoodie; Switch prefers the 'bad boy' jaunty belt and cutoff vest; both have resonant voices, which cannot be told apart even up close
Icarus Processing: none, and as both sides of their line have negative markers, they will never have this done. Melissa and Rhea are working on this down in Rapture, but so far their cells have been... not good with any of the possible treatments. Their children will have to be watched closely for any signs of rejection if given the processing themselves, but then that's unlikely as they're pretty talented already and don't really require it |

Genetic Abilities, Both: this pair of twins from two mothers are unique among the entire Pantheon, perhaps at conception they were joined Vortally, even though their mothers got busy with Oak at slightly different times. As such, Vortally, even though they carry different specific powers, they cannot be told apart purely by their aura, even at any distance. That's never seemed to matter, as they also share their telepathic thoughts and emotions, so if someone wants to think to Hickory and Switch is nearby, they go ahead and chat him up, because the message will certainly get through.
Genetic Abilities, Hickory: You'd think that the speedy one would want the short hair and sleeker outfit, but you'd be wrong. Hicks doesn't seem to care what he's wearing, as long as the shoes have good treads and he's got enough room in his backpack for whatever he's going out to fetch. His speed physically, for running and climbing, is nearly 5x normal, though it comes only in bursts, and this is a Vortal power aiding his natural reflexes. He can run over extremely fragile locations, including areas filled with traps and dangers, without triggering a thing - light on his feet, equally with his hands while scaling a wall or tree, and you'll likely find him perched on top of a flagpole (which may be why Banner likes him!) at the end of a run. His reflexes are strong, he can dodge bullets and swat gnats out of the air, catch arrows, and pick up small items while running at full speed without damaging them. This does come at a price, he can only put on this full-speed burst for around 2 minutes, before he must rest and recharge for about an hour. If he splits it up into shorter bursts, he doesn't need much time to recover.
Genetic Abilities, Switch: while he's strong and durable like his brother, Switch concentrates his Vortal-to-physical prowess in the form of a localized telekinesis that allows him to aim, balance, and extend his reach just far enough to make it clear it's a power and not just luck. Where Hicks can dodge a bullet, Switch can reach out with this power and move that bullet's trajectory around. To his eyes, the world slows to an absolute crawl but only for a very brief moment, and a very narrow area. He would be able to throw a puzzle into the air, and move all the pieces into place without touching them before it lands. His bursts of speed are extremely short but very, very effective; he can use this burst at a short distance, up to about 3 meters, but ... it's probably 10 times faster than any human has ever moved, which puts his burst speed at half again Wilson's. Well, for about 10 seconds. That gnat bothering Hicks might get smashed into oblivion, but if it's around Switch he can gather up the entire swarm into one wobbly insect mass, and crush it Vortally as though his hands are doing it. You don't want to be his juggling partner. He will juggle ALL the things. Without exerting his power, he can still adjust trajectories of items quite close to him, it's almost like an automatic defense mechanism. No one has ever hit him with a thrown object, and it's doubtful that rain hits him without him wanting it to.
Physical Abilities, Both: As Zlatari boys, they are on the more physical scale of powersets, and both of them are quite a bit stronger physically than they look, around 3x for lifting and endurance. |
Skills or Profession: given that they are performers with the acrobats and jugglers, Hickory and Switch have always known tumbling, balancing, picking things up and estimating their weight and consistency, spotting differences in similar items (they know which cards are actually marked), and other such carnival style trickery. But because they are now gifted with dragons and being shown how to utilize their Vortal skills, it is very clear that in their non-performance times, they are the best choice for scouting and collecting duties. The two of them can clear a location of ammunition, set, set off off or disable traps, do head counts of enemies or groups, or convey long-distance messages with ease. Paxton likes this pair, they remind him of he and Geoff, and it's one of the things Geoff agrees with him about. If the world hadn't ended, and the Carnival was still on tour, they would easily be able to scam people out of their betting money from simple bait and switch gags, 'find the ball under the cup' games, sleight of hand tricks, and a variety of stage magic. Also do not dare them to do things. They will do them and you'll owe them dinner. |
Personality: Though they definitely are 'one', this is where they get to have a good laugh - their personalities are radically different. They joke mostly with one another about how easy it is to convince people that they are this spooky dual-bodied guy... Well, they are still that, but outside of that, Hickory likes pizza with pineapple on it, and Switch would throw it at you if offered. Switch puts the toilet seat down, Hickory doesn't give a fuck. Everything from 'boxers or briefs' to who's the best Beatle, their opinions differ. They don't argue about these things, because they figure - between the two of them they're one big messy 'we like everything and hate everything too' dude. Both of them are reasonably talkative and friendly to other people, though, and they both definitely like being seen in context - not in the field, obviously, but in a show? Oh yes please bring on the throwing knives and card tricks. |
Events or History: when the Carnies and the Hippies met up fully, one of the first things they did was have a massive orgy. Yes, that's right, and it was something that both groups are actively proud of. The Carnies had survived quite a few really nasty disasters, and this brought them together to reinforce their lives. They were not born on the same day, Hickory was born first by about 2 days though not for lack of trying on Switch's part.
The dragons were instantly aware that these twins would be part of a group, and as such the batch of eggs that all of the Zlatari kids bonded from are all from one similar family group. Hickory and Banner lurk up at Dragon Tower 4 with Anna and Redd, while Switch and Carnival hit the other side of the Grounds at Dragon Tower 10. Since they are easily able to communicate with one another from any distance, both of these long range stations are ideal for the pair.
Dragons Features: Leafwing Rainwing hybrid, both of these dragons have similar build and overall hybridization features, bearing strong Leaf style front parts from head to mid-section including wings, but having Rainwing neck frills, and the long flexible prehensile tail and very sharp hind claws, dorsal ridges instead of fins, of Rainwings; also obviously they are Rainwing for coloration and some powers
Dragons Parentage: the same Leafwing mother and Rainwing sire that produced Blacklight and Center Stage, and are half-siblings/cousins themselves to Hope Springs and Rain Bow-Tie; who knows whether their collective parents are here on the Rookery, maybe, maybe not - but if there are twins that need colorful dragon help... there they are.

Dragon of Hickory
Name: Banner
Gender: Female
Size/Shoulder/Length: Medium 8'6" s / 44' l / 72' ws
*Colors: Under belly from chin to tail tip soft white; main scales from face to tail tip, legs and wing arms, honrs, and neck frill spines grades from violet blue through a bright cyan-sky blue, and back to reddish violet on tail tip normally; face, neck, body, limb armor and body/tail spots grade in vibrant red-orange, orange, goldenrod, and spring green; dorsal armor, spikes, and body/tail ridge uniformly red; wingsails and webbing are goldenrod orange with lighter and darker variations, and vibrant orange-red tip markings; claws are black, eyes are bright pink
Powers: Winged Flight, as her name implies, Banner loves to fly! She can balance on rooftops and tree canopies without issue, and dangle from her tail or literally stand straight out from a wall with those hind claws digging in wherever they can reach. Her wings make a bit more noise than some, flapping like a flag in the wind, but they don't seem to make much of a breeze themselves, even when right next to her. As an acrobatic dragon, she's right up there with the stunt dragons, though she does also like a leisurly cruise around an area, almost like a plane that has a banner behind it over an event. She's pretty strong, but not for long periods, and prefers to only carry up to three human-sized creatures or weights, if that. She isn't very powerful in terms of smacking things around with her paws or tail, she prefers to leave the brute force to her human friend.
Communication, as with her nest, she's gifted with strong telepathic ability, and can sense or communicate with most nearby Vortal minds within 1 mile. Her Vortal bond with her human is quite close. She speaks a variety of Human tongues with ease, and given her *color shifting she can also display a lot of letters, numbers, symbols, and the like, so that someone can understand even without being in earshot. While she understands the Vorts while they flux shift, she doesn't have the verbal command of their language down well enough, and doesn't speak much Draconic.
*Color Shifting, that Rainwing in her is strong, and all but her belly scales can change radically. Most of her shifts are on her wingsails, which can cover a wide variety of yellows, orange, red, brown, and in extreme concentration almost-white and nearly-black in intensity. She can use her sails to blend in with the corn fields, without altering a thing. But her body can also change, along with the armor, though usually just in saturation, so her bright sky color might turn into a very pale off-white blue, her tail tip into a faded shade of pink. Her armor goes more strongly into changes, and can be controlled per-scale, so she could have a checkerboard of green and red, gradients as shown, or a flickering of different colors. When those armor scales drop off and grow back, the scientists at the Mesa have been really interested in seeing them, so she donates whatever falls from her skin to them.
Photosynthesis...ish, though not truly able to 'eat' nothing but light, Banner definitely likes being up during the day, and her colors can be much more vibrant and are definitely more under conscious control when she's got the sun on her wings. She tends to sulk and get dimmer and more washed out in times of less daylight.
Prehensile Tail, Rainwing Claws, yes as above, those are super dangerous claws, and her body is surprisingly strong in weird ways that other dragons are pretty impressed by. Of all the dragons around, she can 'plank' better than basically any dragon out there! Actually she can remain with her body almost entirely rigid, and her wings flapping around, it's a pretty good act all around.
Venom Bite, she prefers to let her wings and images do the biting, but her Rainwing-inspired spit is... pretty gross. Like her siblings, it doesn't really kill anything, or even paralyze it, but hers will sit in a slightly gelatinous lump and sort of... wobble. It smells both sweet and horrible, but do not taste it, it will definitely make anything that has the ability barf on even the slightest bit of taste. Her gooey spit wads actually last a lot longer than her siblings stuff does, so the eggheads at the Rookery have figured out ways to smear it over surfaces - they can't get it to aerisol at all, it's just too viscous, but this is usually enough that it keeps small animals away from food storage. Just... just keep it out of the actual food. It lasts more than a month, but she can only produce about a softball-sized gob of it a day. Though she and Hickory do go out and sometimes fight, she never relies on this stuff when facing combatants.
Other Info: They have planking contests, she and Hicks. And 'get into the weirdest tall spot' races. Given that he can climb and run very fast, and she can fly, this is often something to watch! |

Dragon of Switch
Name: Carnival
Gender: Male
Size/Shoulder/Length: Medium-large 10' s / 55' l / 95' ws
*Colors: under armor from chin to tail tip and behind legs sky blue; main body scales from face to tail tip and limbs vibrantly rich blue, fading to teal green on feet; face armor and dorsal neck dark red; face accents, fin spines, and dorsal scale ridge medium blue; other armor red-violet to a stronger red on feet; body and tail spots, tail trim vibrant light green; wingsails and webbing very bright pink at body, to rich purple main, and swapping shades on trim; claws graphite, eyes bright yellow
Powers: Winged Flight, though big, Carnival is quite agile in the air, even in narrow corridors between buildings, or under the big top. He likes to fly at night, because his coloration defaults to such a shade that he's hardly even seen... Unless he wants to be. Overall Carnival is a jack of all trades, though not remarkably fast nor truly the star of a show, he's content to be pretty and fly safely. He can lift a lot more than some, but does tire out pretty fast if pressed. He can fly stable in a stiff or difficult wind, and is good in low-light or bad conditions. He does use his tail to corner sharply, so his 'stable' is reserved for when he has to be careful, otherwise he jags and zags around quite a bit.
Communication, like his siblings his whole nest is very able and strongly Vortal. He has a bold and clear mental voice, and can be heard by any Vortal mind within a 10 mile radius, which is to say he does the advertising for the Carnies! Verbally he knows more Draconic than his siblings, as he's taken it upon himself to be more the bridge between old-school and Rookery born of their breed. But he usually speaks clear English and good Vort, with a little Spanish and Hungarian thrown in.
*Color Shifting, as his siblings, he's got a strong dose of Rainwing Color going. His particular bent is somewhat similar to Blacklight, in that the shades that his scales turn depends on the lighting around them. In that, however, is the 'trick' - he looks like an entirely different dragon when he's under the black lights provided during shows, the same ones that make his sister sparkle and glimmer turn his violet colors bright orange and yellow! He can control his wingsails, main body, and his 'rainwing butt' spots, but not his belly nor other armor. That armor does shift color under lighting, just not into any other shades. The wingsails and other bits that can be altered, under visible lighting, usually remain blues and pinks, but he can 'blush' his green parts up through all of his scales, or force everything into a pale shade (so aqua and denim), but the spots and trim on his tail and hind legs can dazzle in all shades possible. His wingsails are slower to change, but he uses that to his advantage too, you'll never see the same exact combination of pink and purple in an hour, though the webbing on his neck will shift more rapidly. He can't produce the complex patterns others might.
Venom Spit, and it runs in the family, because this slick stuff is like oil, and he can leave a tongue-laid trail of it or hiss it out in a spray that can coat anything and be almost impossibly frictionless for hours on end. Scientists are trying to harness this to produce a longer lasting version of it, so they don't have to keep hunting for lubrication for machines. It'll do in a pinch, if a machine needs to be ungummed, but it won't do for longer lasting needs or machinery that will be running for more than a few hours at a time. Starting them up, oh sure, he can do that - in fact he does supply the Mansion with generator kicks or helps with the windmills if they get stuck. But the practical combat application of this is that no walking or rolling vehicle can possibly stand still on this stuff. Even with grit under it, on a gravel surface, even if it's a heavy treaded tank on that gravel... If he's gotten to it, those treads will just slip and slide and overheat. Troops will fall on their faces, and the bonus point is: ... it's also going to make you vomit if it gets in your mouth. It doesn't smell as bad as his siblings' stuff does, thankfully, but you will always know when this dragon has 'helped' with the mechanical chores. Since his does become quite small droplets, it's best to wait a few minutes so that there's none in the air before entering a room where he's worked.
Carnival lacks any Leafwing light-based or plant-based abilities.
Other Info: For a while, Switch and Carnival pretended he was two dragons. Because seeing him with even a little blacklighting creates the effect of changing his colors... They still do this with newly arrived refugees. |
