Name: Matt Perkins, sometimes 'manhack Matt' due to his penchant for taking down Combine scanners and hacks Gender: Male, Straight Age/DOB: 30s / early 1990s? Origin: Rookery Earth, Portland Oregon Family: Was a pre-teen when the Resonance Cascade ruined things, and lost most of his family to its subsequent portal storms within a few years; had a relationship with a woman in one of the various Cities he's spent time in, but she isn't likely alive any longer (Notably, he's been spliced with Aretha, their daughter Janice is happy to help at Rapture as well, spliced because Mel needed to get rid of those bad tags below) Other: part of the Shorepoint rescue group, definitely interested in settling down and enjoying his life, hopefully someone down here in Rapture will think a guy like him is worth being with? Height: 6'2" Weight: 170, lean and muscular from a lot of Outlands work and less food than he ought to have, but with time and comfort he will likely regain more bulk and end up around 200, all of that muscle Hair: Black, slightly greying, very short kept natural afro Eyes: hazel brown, does require distance glasses, but anything closer than 10 feet is easily seen; expressive eyebrows Appearance: dark brown skin, with scars and a bit of darkening around his eyes due to diet; he's a tall and strongly built man, with a calm and pleasant voice, and prefers to be able to change out of 'work clothes' into something nicer after a good long hot shower. His Black Mesa gear is only marginally suitable to his duties in Rapture, but few of the clothes there fit him decently. Genetic Abilities: None overtly, but it's clear he has a good grasp on machinery and engineering Icarus Processing: none, and wouldn't be suitable due to negative genetic tags - Melissa doesn't think that should dissuade them from 'splicing him up' with an appropriate partner, as she could easily get rid of those dangerous markers in the lab... |

Skills or Profession: Maintenance on Rapture equipment, plumbing and heating, is attempting to learn how the bigger airlock mechanisms work and where their own equipment was stored, he's running low. Also note that he's a demon with a pipe wrench (or a pipe, or a piece of wood, or a baseball bat, or a Combine stun stick, or...) with close quarters melee combat, and has a massive collection of spare parts gathered from scanners, eyebots, manhacks, as well as headcrab beaks and assorted pelts of still-existing animals he's killed. He kind of likes taxidermy, but... he's not very good at it? Don't go in his den.
Personality: Careful and honest, Matt wants to protect what he's got now, because he's already lost so much. He knows, however, that merely keeping his head down and nose to the grindstone would only lead to death and destruction - he joined the rebels because they stood for things that he doesn't want to lose in life: freedom, choice, that kind of thing. While he does pummel the crap out of any small creature (for food or defense) or machines attacking the area, he always - always - gives a shout first, when there are humans involved. If the soldiers are fully converted he's learned to forego this, because they simply aren't Human any more. But Civil Protection? They're just people under those helmets and gear, and he'll be damned if he takes a human life casually.
Events or History: had spent time in City 97 before it fell, was transported over to one of the Chinese Cities after the Combine arrived. He was between locations long enough that he knew there were pockets of resistance, but they were often only seen from the windows of a train. Until they started sealing up the train cars... Had been a lookout for the Shorepoint refugees for a while, obviously that ended with the onslaught by the Combine, but now he's got a much better gig down under the ocean. While he works on the inside, Squeegee does his part to maintain the exterior so the glass and any machinery isn't covered with guck or algae. Also amusing to him is that he's from the same part of the country that Gordon Freeman, David Hoyle, and Rachel Cooper are, and though he is from the ruined version of them and a bit younger than any of them, they still all have fond enough memories of the area that they can compare and contrast this tree or that woodland. It's likely that Hoyle will ask him to help repair and maintain the Enclave if and when it gets put into this dimension. |
