Name: Buck Chase

Gender: Male, Bisexual

Age/DOB: 6@arrival, currently 17ish

Origin: Aperturth, born on Mansion grounds

Family: Mother Haley Chase, father Bear; half-brother Kono, half-sisters Jitter and Bonnie Fire; distant uncle Fireworks

Other: Highly likely to be used by Melissa for extra splices

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 130* Icarus strongly reduced weight, he's quite muscular and barrel-bodied, like dad

Hair: Reddish brown, with dark undertones, thick and luxurious, kept reasonably short because fire; has bushy eyebrows and a nicely trimmed beard, has to shave a lot

Eyes: Quite red, did start life with more or less normally brown eyes - in fact quite dark brown. But after Icarus treatments they changed quickly. Almond shaped.

Appearance: medium tan-red skin, strong hands, smallish feet, always smiling, and if he's not either you need to watch out for fire, or you need to cuddle him right now. Likes having snappy clothing that shows off contrasts with his orange and red fire powers, and is among the few Hippie descendants who knows how to tie a formal tie.

Icarus Processing: Yes, at age 8 along with numerous other kids of the Hippies. This process decidedly lightened his weight, strengthening his bones and joints, and has allowed his muscularity to really improve. He is around 3x stronger than normal, and about 2x faster. He is quite resistant to heat, fire, and effects of brightness or lights. Can't help his clothing if they burn, but he's never once even gotten a blister from fires or hot oils/substances. It strongly improved his Vortal powers.

Genetic Abilities: Haley's fire abilities are strongly echoed in her son, including the resistance described above. It was obvious before his Icarus treatment that fire did obey him, unlike Haley's power. He can actively produce fire, from a tiny flickering match-head worth, to a full bore bonfire. The smaller and cooler the flame, the longer it will last and the less power it takes to work on it. He does prefer to simply light a fire the old fashioned way, and then manipulate it - it takes considerably less power to do this, than to produce one. He always has a small lighter on his person, as well as a 'spark' generator, which he's found to be of more use. Buck can sense flames made by any source - Vortal, chemical, gas, cigarette lighter - at 50 meters, so he knows the intensity or size of a fire before approaching it. He cannot sense through them, but has figured out how to understand where they are and are not in a location, to see if they're 'someone is on fire and needs to be put out' or 'a gas line has ruptured'. He can manipulate fires at up to 30 meters away, causing them to move along surfaces they wouldn't normally, or go out if they're in the wrong place. His ability to actually create flames can immolate a human-sized object, covering it with nasty burns in moments depending on how scary he wants to be. Buck can also just create the appearance of a hotly-burning flame on someone, without actually burning them at all save for maybe some stray hair singes. He does have to rest after a large production, though he responds very well to those who can actively boost Vortal power. He has no other Vortal abilities, though others who can sense auras, empathy, or communicate to him will find he's quite generously warm inside and out.
Skills or Profession: With several highly dangerous pyrokinetics in the Pantheon for many years, he got a good dose of 'how to control it' from downloads given by Rex and his children. Aside from that, he does have a good degree of style and fashion sense, and enjoys looking good in front of people. He practices aiming and firing his abilities, and has gotten very good at it even aside from the downloads' assistance. Among the young dragon riders in the Rookery he shows tremendous promise in flight pattern command, and because both he and his dragon are fire-enabled he's trusted with assaults on local incursions as well as fire control in the Grounds themselves. Allowed to really let loose when there is a major assault, he reliably can substitute for Paxton in the field. He and Leopald have a team dynamic very much akin to the big Bronze riders of the Old World, including ways to set 'gas traps' that he can light with a tiny fraction of his full power. He is remarkably clever for using these things, also trusted with back-burns and underbrush controlled fires on the Grounds.
Personality: He is remarkably casual for such a talented and trustworthy rider. Absolutely would become a Weyrleader on an Old World Weyr, he's not as full of himself as he could - or even should - be. Particularly compared to any of the other pyrokinetics in the Pantheon, he's a gentle soul with an eye on helping out more than causing a ruckus. That said, he does have his moods, and at times is withdrawn and needy or on very rare occasions extremely volatile. It's best to wind him up before a battle, but be prepared to console him later, as this sort of thing really exhausts him both Vortally and emotionally.

Events or History: on the younger side of the Hippie kids, but used to group activities and being raised by a village. Since he was raised among oddly talented people, and exposed to Vortal individuals from the start, he is used to all the 'weird' that ... he doesn't really understand, everyone around here has them, why are they weird? Always on the helpful side, he'd been known to go around the Grounds and Mansion on his own making sure that there were no open flames or rooms that needed lighting - turning candles on and off became his first 'job' on the grounds as a toddler. When they moved to the Rookery, this all got much more intense, but he's always been okay with having other powerful people around him. Dragons are just icing on the cake! And he loves cake!

Currently resides near DT 3 in the north-eastern area, by the Corn fields, and they are actively responsible for fire control in the area.

Dragon

Name: Leopard of the Desert, Leo, "Leopald"
Gender: Male
Size/Shoulder/Length: Medium (broad wings) 11'6" s / 60' l / 120' ws
Colors: belly from chin to tail tip pale cream; face, limbs and wing arms butter yellow; all armor goldenrod with bold rich black rosettes; wingsails sunny yellow with very faint lighter mottling; dorsal fin bold black and gold-orange stripes; horns, claws, tongue black; eyes pale yellow with black sclera
Features: Sandwing, variant breed
Powers: Winged Flight, powerful and durable in the warm air produced by his own body, Leo can ride for literal days on updrafts or in very warm conditions such as dune deserts. Because they live in a more temperate area, he does expend a little more muscle energy or fire magic, in order to do the same, but he can. He can achieve a good speed in a short period of time, and stop to hover equally well, and is surprisingly maneuverable in the air - all of these things mean that he is very much like any Bronze dragon of the Old Worlds, and he likes that thought. They are leaders of wings and weyrs, shouldn't they have their counterpart here? He thinks so, and is well capable of flying to prove his worth at the top of the heap.
Communication, he has an unusually strong Vortal connection to his human, and again this is much like any Bronze and his rider. Leo, however, can convey very complicated thoughts and words, images, and emotion to his human friend at almost any distance. He cannot mentally communicate with any other human this way, but is easily contacted by other Vortal minds, be they draconic or humanoid. Otherwise he is a polite speaker of English and Draconic, and would like to learn some other Human tongues, they're intriguing. He has a voice that can be somewhat grating, gritty, but speaks well and clear enough that no one really complains about it.
Heat of the Desert, as a Sandwing, he is a master of heat and fire. His fire is at least as hot as most Skywings, and that's why they often defer to him as their 'wing leader' during assaults. His body exudes warmth, but he won't burn things just by being near them. He can focus his fire breath into a hand-wide beam that is accurate to around 500 meters, and his vision is astoundingly sharp so whatever he's looking at is toast. His more conventional meter-wide burst of flame can burn a Hunter to ash in minutes, at around 100 meters. But he also can create a haze of superheated gas, which visibly looks like heat haze - it has a distinct scent as well, which he's helped people and dragons alike recognize. If they smell that, keep the fire to a minimum, as it's there as a trap for whatever's nearby. His rider will ignite those belches, either near the ground or up in the air during a battle. He can produce a block of this gas that can fill a 25 foot room and remain volatile for several days before evaporating into a kind of greasy film, which is still quite flammable so be careful. This gas can remain in windless conditions in the air for about an hour, but with any amount of wind, including that from wings, it will become thin and diffuse pretty easily. They've become very good at estimating winds and use care when in a battle, knowing that it might drop onto friends below unless they ignite it quickly. Additionally of course, as a Sandwing, Leo is able to withstand a tremendous amount of heat, though generally it's in the form of fire and not other forms - like plasma or laser weapons, which will harm him, though not as much as they could. His armored scales have been known to be burned, but they drop off and regrow quickly, not leaving scars.
Venomous Tail Spike, it means business. However it's not his primary weapon, he will use his tail to club things into submission if they're harrassing him from behind. The venom in it will certainly kill a human-sized creature in a few hours, though, but he doesn't actively produce much venom, and if it gets used at all, it will be at least a full week before it's at strength again.
Parentage: Unknown pure Sandwings, is the father of Dynasty and Frit with Anunit, also Shattershell with Okiitii
Origin: Adopted from GuildKnight, lines by PeregrineCella on Deviantart, WoF by Tui Sutherland
Other Info: He is very keen on learning about riding tactics with his human, and has a deep respect for the older dragons who have been through battles. Notably, Plerusqueth and Paxton have all of that in spades.
