Name: Peregrine Blankenship, Nach'toi ni-Vahh, 'the fastest traveller' Gender: Male, straight / aromantic Age/DOB: 14? / RY 5 but raised outside of timeline and put back as matured Origin: Well he was 'born' on Rookery Xen, does that count? Family: Mother Journey Blankenship, father Local (Rookery) Lane Other: He isn't technically related to the Pantheon, and that does sort of mean that he could potentially hook up with another of those extremely powerful kids. However, he is half-brother to the entire first 15 Color Guard girls... as well as Amon Vahh ; At some point, Imedla Munoz decides she 'wants to be in the gene pool' - she's not even interested in guys, but speed and strength is very important... Their daughter is Ji-Min; and in RY 10 when Ellenore and her dragon Thillekiz show up in Xen, they have a more 'traditional' relationship and a more 'traditional' son Edgar Height: 6'0" Weight: 155, muscular and quite well toned, healthy looking Hair: Dark brown, straight when it's short as shown, but as it gets longer there's a distinct wave to it, which can turn into frizz... he keeps it short for a reason, has a distinct widows peak Eyes: vibrant aqua green with teal, a slightly more even and smooth tone than Lane's which has more granularity; will get those distinct dark circles eventually more or less because he's always judging and squinting, under impressively arched eyebrows Appearance: fair skin that would freckle if only he'd go out under an actual sun sometime; he has considerably softer and rounder facial features than his father, and though they're of about the same height, Peregrine is far more broad-shouldered and does like to show those guns off... he wears what equates to an Icarus suit, with the arms cut off, and half a Combine or Civil Protection torso hoodie at almost all times. He goes through shoes like crazy, it's impossible to find them durable these days. If he'd stop doing more running than five or six years worth every three weeks... Icarus Processing: None overtly, however Journey is effectively an Icarus supply in and of herself. With Melissa's 'encouragement' she's able to Vortally focus on it, and... well, technically speaking I suppose this means that Peregrine is in fact Icarus treated to some extent. It doesn't physically show in his body in any way, but the effects themselves appear to be that he's about twice as strong as a normal man, he does resist physical damage incredibly well (shrugging off upwards of 5x the damage normally needed to injure a person) (that's on par with Wilson by the way) and what damage might occur heals almost instantly as well. He can hold his breath for nearly ten minutes, so his underwater exploration isn't hindered. His speed is both Vortal and physical in nature. It also seems to have attuned his senses, as he can pick up very quiet sounds or tremendously small or distant details with ease. In any case, if he has children of his own their genes will behave as if he has had the treatments. What it didn't do however is give him his education, as he did not get downloads. |

Genetic Abilities: Strongly Vortal, with the typical suite of telepathy, empathy, and Vortal aura sight, however none of these are his favorite or often practiced powers. His telepathy has a very long distance aspect to it, and he can when he knows where to find someone, speak directly to them mentally even across dimensional barriers, specifically to or from Xen. His mental voice is low and distinct, like his speaking tone. While he can utilize empathy he rarely bothers, though he will take note if there's a person or group nearby that's exceptionally riled up in any way. Not that he wants to comfort or encourage or calm them, just wants to know why. His Vortal vision is as keen as his eyesight, and he very possibly just sees things 'that way' for all practical purposes. A lot of what he sees is just registered and like his empathy, doesn't much matter to him. Otherwise his main focus is the ability to move between spaces in some way - always faster than normal, even while walking. He has to concentrate on not just speeding around, and more often than not you'll see him standing as still as a fidgeting young man can, and then blur off to another spot. He doesn't 'pace', so much as 'run laps'. His speed physically is literally off the charts, for running or even swimming. He does run and swim, but doesn't tire from those activities at all. Climbing and leaping he does have to be a bit more careful, planning his landing and placement before doing anything stupid. He can spring into the air from a standing start, though, and that gives him an advantage if he must scale something with a larger gap than he could reach with his arm. Of course then he can just teleport. His unerring ability to move between dimensions and local space is actually more than impressive to any given Lane, and each of those men would happily relinquish their title of 'Fastest Convocation Entity' to him. And yes. Yes he would eagerly race them for it. Though he can take up to one human-sized volume or mass with him, it's usually not his style to do so. Rescuing people is... not on his list of things to do. His teleportation Vortally looks like nothing so much as the moment of a blink: he's just gone. No pressure wave, no snappy colors or balls of energy left behind, just here and gone. The only time anyone's noticed him is if he's in liquid - there will be a volume that swishes or arrives with him, though he can come completely dry out of a lake if he wants to. Local world teleportation is limited to around 100 miles at a jaunt, but then again he can cover that distance on foot if there's nothing in the way on less than half an hour. That said, he doesn't tire from teleporting either, so it doesn't matter how he gets where he is going, he will not be winded when he gets there. He might have to pick up another pair of shoes though. }:<
Skills or Profession: Peregrine is the consummate teleporter, rather a lot like his father is in any incarnation. However he's also much more physically active than any version of Lane, preferring to climb, run, jump, swim, and leap around an area. He loves exploring in this manner and has expertise from doing so that would impress Gordon himself... His practical experiences are mainly on Xen, in its entirety - not just the parts that Lane often shows to people or that the Vorts have colonized. The entire fractured planet is his to explore, from the glowing core serving as a 'sun', to the strangely hovering blobs of water that were once deep ocean (complete with pressure and darkness), to a swirling maelstrom of sand that contains desert dwelling creatures like antlions and headcrabs at its rocky core. He much prefers the lusher parts, because once you've seen an endless stretch of islands or dirt, you've ... pretty much seen it all. He is good at estimating distances, heights, volume, and pathing, perhaps a Vortal ability to seek out potential paths that quickly resolves itself with the best direction. For a more mundane education, Journey and Melissa have insisted that he as a young child actually sit down and read those books available to him. So like his father, he's read pretty much everything in the Mansion, and then everything he could find in the Black Mesa technical library, and then anything that he found on Xen which would include scientific notations and smuggled comic books. He does speak and understand Vortigese flawlessly, and though they don't have their own alphabet there was one in use on Xen created by the Controllers which he noted. Peregrine speaks English and Russian without an accent, and has learned enough French, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, and Hindi to get by with virtually any group. Not that he talks to people very much. He really does prefer just scouting alone and with Voy'urr, leaving markers or information behind to help anyone trying to keep up with him.
Personality: A loner, in a strong sense. He thinks that people normally just slow him down, but he has been impressed with the concept of helping them out by his mother and Mel, and even one or more of the Lanes. He might turn out to be painfully shy around people, honestly, he has hardly been around them much to find out. He doesn't care for music, except that he does sit and listen to the great drifting boids out in the space of Xen, and their songs lull him. If he'd go to the Void, he would probably love the whale songs there too. He is active, and if he does have an audience, he wants to make sure that whoever's watching has a good view of all his best assets. So yes, he is a touch vain, even if he snubs up close interaction. Peregrine does like the way the ladies watch him when he makes the attempt to slowly saunter through a room in the Mesa. One point of contention with him and any version of his father, he ... doesn't care for coffee. He likes the smell but can't stand either the taste or the effects on him. He's already fast enough. He doesn't need jittering added to it.
Events or History: Journey is quite adept at locating Keenan Lane, kallah-vahh, whatever he's calling himself if he has a name. At some point, probably shortly after Local Rookery Lane got more directly involved with the dragonry she was drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Only in her case, she's usually the flame. Maybe she was working on him before the dragon, no one else knows but them. But in her whole history she's only ever born this one child, to any of them. Kept under strict confidentiality, Melissa worked with her to get just the right Vortal mindset, helping to shape this child before he was even a cluster of 8 cells. Not that he himself has really stuck to their plans for him - always headstrong and quite a bit wiser than they give him credit for, Peregrine never 'told off' either of them, or his father, he just simply took their lessons and books and then shrugged and wandered off on his own to Xen where he spends most of his days. He is curious and does like exploring places he hasn't seen yet, so he will come when he's summoned for either an emergency search or just to see something fun and pretty. Peregrine does like to confer with people he considers unique or outstanding, and one of those is Wilson, much to the man's surprise. He doesn't think much of the hippies or even the Color Guard, beyond that they exist and have their own sets of weird fun powers to play with. The occasional absolutely normal person will catch his eye, he'll ask them about their life, their experiences in the Combine's shadow, and does have a growing sense that the Combine should be put down sooner than later. If called to battle, he will bring Voy'urr (or the dragon will bring himself, he's fully capable after all) and help end it. They reside with a semi-permanent encampment of refugee Vorts, on Xen, with the occasional other dragon visible in their skies. |
